Hackett Cable Knit Hat

07 September 2009, 13.30 | Posted in Accessories | No comments »

selectism - hackett-cable-knit-hat

How times change. A few years ago the idea of Hackett making an appearance on streetwear blogs was beyond laughable. Fast forward three years and the AW09 collection was doing the internet rounds. Pieces like this cable knit hat display how their pieces can easily cross boundaries – or how those boundaries don’t exist anymore. We like the hat and, most importantly, we like the price (£30). We don’t approve of wearing the piece all beanie-like (far too skater boy for our tastes) so just roll it up a little and you’re good to go. (Hackett)

Bill Amberg Signature Boston Bag

selectism - bill-amberg-boston-signature-bag-01

Monocle’s recent collab with Bill Amberg reminded us that the guy’s own line stuff is pretty, pretty good. When you feature as many companies as we do (there’s only three of us writing here, you know) it’s easy to forget a couple – and that’s what happened with good ol’ Bill.

This Boston signature bag is yet another good weekend bag – we’ve featured more than a few in our time – and it also has the added bonus of being on sale. Sales are all relative, but 50% off a Bill Amberg bag is a good deal, if we say so ourselves. (Bill Amberg)

Selectism - Ralph Lauren Deerfield Slim Wallet

Inqmnd talks on the latest wallet from Ralph Lauren. “Seldom a man’s wallet is mentioned when it comes to their accessory game.  Made in Italy, Ralph Lauren has produced the Deerfield Slim Wallet, a rustic aesthetic tri-fold wallet.  With the perfect amount of craftsmanship and details, coupled with a suitable amount of compartments to hold your papers or plastics, no stone will be left unturned come time when you pay for that bill. More images after the jump.”

Selectism - Adam Kimmel Spring/Summer 2010

Adam Kimmel previews his Spring/Summer 2010 collection online with a lookbook filled with cowboys… well dressd cowboys. The two looks above are some of my favorites. Note the red trimming on the lapel on the right blazer. Much more to examine in this collection…

Selectism - Via Snella Spring/Summer 2010

The Fashionisto gives their view of the Via Snella Spring/Summer 2010 collection. “Continuing on an honest journey, the collection features low-key pieces that are complete without fuss–being stripped down to the necessities. In the spirit of spring, ensembles ease from cool blues to warm yellows. A season of leisure, the range effortlessly transitions from cheery polka dot knits to relaxed trousers and airy tanks. Altogether, the collection simply allows its wearer to bask in the season’s undemanding spirit.”

Selectism - Gary Cooper as Architect in the Fountainhead

01.  ”Out of Africa”

“Photographed by Laurence Ellis.” (contributingeditor)

02. Big Ole’ Update on The Hardcore Archaeologist

Some big rarities shown here: test pressings from Minor Threat, Teen Idles, og Gorilla Biscuit t-shirts, og Misfits t-shirts, and my favorite, an og Quicksand t-shirt. Looks like they’re pulled from eBay (maybe). (thca)

03. Why I love Chinatown

“Working his way as a nomad through Washington Heights to the Financial District, Chris Schonberger, TONY’s assistant Web editor, has finally found a home in Chinatown. ‘The abundance of legitimately cheap and delicious food is a big selling point for me (as well as a rare commodity in Manhattan), and the fact that I am much taller than the majority of the people there seals the deal,’ he jokes.” (timeoutny)

04. Gary Cooper as Architect in the Fountainhead

“Mirage.studio.7 has a collection of fictional architects in movies. Our favorite is Gary Cooper in The Fountainhead, an adaptation of the novel by Ayn Rand.” (dailyicon)

Portland, OR’s Naubrand continues to bring the eco-friendly active wear that works to the market. Take the Lightbeam shirt and jacket above. Made from 100% recycled poly is a great addition to your travel bag as it packs and stores away nicely. We shot some of the more vibrant color ways but you can pick it up in simple caviar (aka: black). The Lghtbeam jacket varies from the shirt with an additional pullout hood in the collar.
