Selectism - Sundek Rainbow Board Shorts

Sundek should be known to the old school beach bums and surfers following this here site. In the 70’s and 80’s Sundek sponsored some of the foremost surfers in the world and really took a ride in the 80’s. The line is now beginning to step up their presence on USA shore through the better fashion doors out there. We’re told they’re still made in the USA. Classics.

Selectism - Jansport Heritage Series

We have covered a few pieces from this collection briefly, but with the opportunity to shoot our own looks at the variety of bags which are part of the Jansport Hertitage line, we could not resists. They look as far back as 1967 (and through the late 80’s) to pull a variety of bags used for hike, ski, commutes, and more. The “Westridge” and “Hoss” backpacks are some great looks which comes in an boxy form with an angle top.

selectism - asos-best-of-british-01

We were more than a little reticient when we heard of ASOS doing a ‘Best of British’ collaboration collection. But after looking at the full collection, we’re pleasantly surprised – it’s actually pretty darn good. The brand list reads like a dream team of British companies. Aside from the Grensons we featured a few weeks back, the list also includes Baracuta, Fred Perry, Gloverall, Hawick cashmere (pictured above), Mackintosh, Drakes, Dents, John Smedley, Thomas Pink – the list really does go on and on.

The collection officially launches next week, with products finding their way to the virtual shelves from monday onwards. To save you precious time, we’ve included our favourite pieces from the collection after the leap.

Paul Smith Ike Hiking Boot

selectism - Paul Smith Ike Hiking Boot

The winning element of the Paul Smith Ike Hiking Boot is the sole. This unit replicates an original design from the 1948 Winter Games in St. Moritz. Clearly, there’s more than just the sole to give the boot an alpine air. The Fiesta leather upper has been tumbled in mud and stones. This provides an “elusive pre-worn look.” Signature laces and liner print might bring the boot into the present, but the general theme here is vintage. (via Acquire).

Opening Ceremony Patchwork Shirt

We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again; if you’re doing the chambray and denim look, chances are you look a little bit boring. While there’s nothing wrong with being perfectly boring, it’s always nice to have a piece that gets attention. Let’s be honest – that’s the reason you started taking an interest in your clothes in the first place. And this piece is the perfect to attract the good sort of attention. Just remember to tone down the rest of your outfit. (Opening Ceremony)

The song remains the same – detailed shots after the leap.

selectism - American Fashion Menswear

In American Fashion Menswear, fashion historian Robert E. Bryan travels from Levi’s through Zoot Suits to the present exploring the evolution of American fashion. The topic, undoubtedly, is rich. And, Bryan’s assertion that shifts in fashion are deeply rooted in American history are not unfounded. Additionally, Bryan’s effort celebrates the quintessentially American themes that are emulated in fashion the world over.

The book is a collaborative publication by the Council of Fashion Designers Association and Assouline Books.

The eagle eyed among you will have spotted that we put this up yesterday before removing it from the interwebz. We jumped the gun a little. Well, a lot actually, as we pre-emptively exposed Style Salvage’s online pop-up shop with Daniel Jenkins before they get the chance to. But now that minor kerfuffle is out of the way – it was rucksacks at dawn – we can show you our favourite Carolyn Massey AW09 piece. We liked this piece so much that we featured it in our ‘7 days’ feature (look for that next week). [Daniel Jenkins]

Manzine Issue. 2

selectism - manzine-01

We love a good ol’ magazine here and we’ve been pretty determined to show that there’s a whole wide world beyond Monocle and i-D magazine. Take Manzine for instance (which we found via Magculture). It’s a decidedly lo-fi affair, printed on blue copier paper instead of the stockier stuff other magazines are now turning to. You could call it the anti-Monocle. Instead of articles on the perfect neighbourhood, there’s features on turning forty, wearing shorts in summer and a shopping trip to Westfield. What sets it apart is the contributor list, which reads like a who’s who of (UK) men’s magazines. To sum up, the magazine’s an enjoyable in-joke.

Take a look at images from the magazine after the leap.
