While most collaborations seem like a desperate cash grab or a vanity project designed so someone can see their name on a product, others just make sense. Edwin and Folk’s collaboration was the latter. We quizzed Edwin’s Rey Gaultier and Folk’s Cathal McAteer about how the project came together and their thoughts about collaborating, heritage becoming a buzzword and their respective strengths.

NYC’s Rochambeau label easily won the crown for life size lookbooks. Well, not exactly lifesize, but their Spring 2010 lookbook, which is meticulously printed on Tyvek paper (with post-treatment), and finished with sisal fiber cover, looks like a carpet when rolled up for travel but clearly holds looks at the lines future.  Seen at (capsule).

Pete was forced to model this colorway of the Alpha Industries Super Shell jacket at their booth. The Super shell comes in this great military inspired green as well as fighter blue, and black. The inspiration for the collection pulls from the Alpha Industries’ back catalog of military contract wears. Priced at 85$US, this may be the steal of the show for a low cost spring jacket. I love this jacket.

Montreal based Want Les Essentiels de la Vie  shows a good range from their immediate collection at (capsule) show. Above we show you their “Organic” bag line which should be available at outlets such as Opening Ceremony. Also of note is their common toe which rolls nicely as a stowaway bag.

Sperry shows their forthcoming Spring 2010 Band of Outsiders collection in Las Vegas. The collection keeps on growing with additions of distinctive fabrics, and new color ways in the suede deck looks. We should note that the inline Sperry collection has begun to pull from past season Band of Outsiders collection.

Denver, CO based Elc Mens previewed their Spring/Summer 2010 collection at (capsule) this week. We pulled this great flat front militia coat from the collection. The coat is finished in waterproof British cotton twill and simply works. The gingham print neck liner is a nice touch.

Tripleworks Denim Goods of Japan is showing a few models of shuttle loomed denim at (capsule) show. Some of the more interesting models – “Natural,” “Future,” and “Permanent” Indigo Denim – allow for the buyer to choose what level of wear they’re looking to get out of their jeans. The “Future” Indigo Denim is specially treated to allow for the denim to “break in” colorwise at a quicker pace than their “Natural” model. On the otherhand, the wearer looking for a pair of jeans that are blisteringly difficult to fade should choose the “Permanent” Indigo Denim. All three are cut from 16oz selvedge and look great. Good to see them at the show.

A quick look at The Porsche Design Eyewear Autumn/Winter 2009 collection revealed they’re packing some style. The new frames keep true to their combination of elegance and minimal design. They’ve re-released such classic styles as their legendary heritage “Pilot” and “Shield” sunglasses. But these new editions get a serious facelift with heavy duty stainless steel for strength and high grade titanium for ease and flexibility. “Minimal use of material at maximum load” is their new motto and we couldn’t agree more. -cw
