Junya Watanabe Quilted Nylon Jacket

selectism - junya-watanabe-quilted-nylon-jacket-01

We’ve been giving Watanabe a wide berth this season. We still like him and all, it’s just harder to feature his pieces now the menswear blog gods have decided that he’ll be the menswear label of the season.

But we just couldn’t ignore this jacket. Look at it – it’s gorgeous. We know the deer hunter types will be wearing it with flannel shirts and hiking boots but we feel that’s a little obvious. Mix it up – it won’t hurt. (Browns)

Take a look at another colourway after the leap.

selectism - Selectism Feature : SeeVees

One of our favorite brand stories of the last few years comes from SeaVees. With all of the heritage revitalization going on, the refreshing concept behind the “relaunch” of the California brand has not gone unnoticed. Derek Galkin and Steven Tiller were kind enough to discuss their vision with us. The result is a short feature outlining their inspiration for a contemporary vision of SeaVees and their dedication to unearthing exciting tidbits of 1960s California culture.

Details | Gianluca Isaia’s 10 rules of style

23 September 2009, 13.30 | Posted in interview | No comments »

selectism - gianluca-isaia-details

After a shaky few months – there’s only so much you can take of people saying ‘wear clothes that fit’ – Details 10 rules of style is back on form. This month they’ve contacted Gianluca Isaia, head honcho of the tailored clothing house Isaia.

One really interesting point, which highlights what we’re trying to show here at SL, is how people are beginning to pick and choose their clothes from different sectors of fashion.

“A few years ago, guys had to identify their style as either fashiony or traditional. Those somewhere in the middle were considered indecisive. Now if you’re in the middle, you can take the best from both worlds and create something new.”

GQ UK | Another Sartoralist Interview

selectism - scott-schuman-gq-magazine

GQ UK and The Sart clearly have something going on. Maybe he’s giving them his ‘the sex’ tips. He’s popped up again on the website, this time with a full length interview, which covers everything from the future of print media to how London style compares to New York style. They also breach the topic of how not to get your picture taken by the photographer, on which he says:

“No one ever comes up and says “Take my photo”. What people do is they hang around or they come up and say hi and are really nice but for some reason – I don’t know what it is – I’m very good at the oblivious factor. Maybe I’m not focussed or I don’t look side to side but I think people realise pretty quick.”

01. Digital Wallpaper (above)

“The basic idea was to light up the black and white striped office wall by mapping the architecture with multitple projectors. The program developed by Strukt is scripted in vvvv and is scaleable to any number of projectors and any architectural shape. Several different visualisations have been realised already, amongst it a Pac Man animation as well as moving stripes, and more are in development. The content could also be made interactive, reacting to people passing the ground-floor offices.” (likecool)

02. East German Design Photo Gallery

“Futurist-about-town Bruce Sterling takes a look into the past with his suh-weet Flickr gallery of the “Industrial design of the German Democratic Republic” exhibit from this month’s Gogbot festival in Germany, curated by critic Gunter Hohne. Who knew what those East German designers were doing all that time behind that wall?” (core77)

03. Colander Table by Daniel Rohr

“Colander, a table of 909 holes, is the latest project by Daniel Rohr, designed to delete space and material. Produced by way of a CNC milling process, the polished aluminium tabletop starts out at a weight of 408 kg. (899 lbs.). The space between the plate glass top and the metal bowl makes any object that is set upon the table seem to hover above it. It takes about four weeks for the production of one table, to be produced in an edition of ten.” (mocoloco)

04. The Avengers Early Episodes Get New Dvd Reissue

“Just two and a half first series episodes survive, but thankfully all of series 2 is still around, all fully restored (for the first time) and of course with Patrick Macnee playing Steed, Honor Blackman doing the partner thing as Catherine/Cathy Gale. The entire eight-disc set has a running time of 1,520 minutes, augmented by extras including a 132-page book covering series one, a series one scrapbook, scripts, materials, stills, promotional brochures, audio commentaries and an Honor Blackman interview – most of that new for this release.” (retrotogo)

Selectism - 10 Watches that Shape the Future of Modern Watchmaking

Ben Clymer from Hodinkee rounds up the frakishly futuristic of timepieces in his piece for Stylecrave entitled “10 Watches that Shape the Future of Modern Watchmaking.” “The techniques of luxury watch design can be as intricate and delicate as those of a precision automobile, albeit on a much smaller scale.  From crystal to carbon fiber, diamond to gold, the materials and make of today’s luxury watches spare no expense to achieve perfection.”

The Flat Head Hickory Stripe Workshirt

Selectism - The Flat Head Hickory Stripe Workshirt

spent some dosh this past weekend in one of those “specialized” shops that caters to all things great about Japan workwear. This Hickory Stripe Workshirt from The Flat Head. The details are ridiculous: 6oz fabric, triple stitched body, selvedge side seam accents and all are woven on vintage shuttle looms. Throw in the great fit, and this is a banger. Self Edge carries them.

Selectism - UNIS Tom Shirts

NYC’s UNIS comes through with another solid shirt which pulls from both the classic dress and work shirt styles. Elbow patch reinforces one arm (we would have preferred two). A buttonless collar and contrasting color fabrics on the plackets finish these nicely. Many color options to choose from.
