Iron Heart 60/40 Down Vests

Selectism - Iron Heart 60/40 Down Vests

These are true structures of warmth. Iron Heart drops a double pack of 60/40 down vests on the market.  It’s the first time they have released a product of this nature after coming through with flying colors on their ultra heavy thick flannels (which I happened to pick up in here in Tokyo as well). The down vest comes in navy and khaki and includes interior phone pockets. Its sure to be built “Iron Heart” tough which means indestructible to this writer. Available from SESF/NY.

Selectism - Mt. Rainier Design for Manhattan Portage Backpacks

I got blocked on taking photos of these backpacks so I’ll refer to Zozo. The MP1210 backpacks are a simple double label variety for the Japan market. They’re made in the USA from 60/40 cotton/nylon for durable rocking. A simple look that works.

“Men in Denim Build this Country…” Poster

Selectism - "Men in Denim Build this Country..." Poster

Here’s a post which is sure to rile up comments. Proletariat Shop in Cambridge, MA wants to re-inforce the hard working blue collar men who helped build the United State. Teaming with Michael Dacey from Repeat Press (down the road from Proletariat in Somerville, MA), they developed a limited run of 25 posters which proudly states the shop’s slogan “Men in Denim Build this Country, Men in Suits Destroy It.”

“The poster was printed on a Vandercook SP20 using a mix of vintage wood type and new woodcuts created specifically for the poster. Four colors were used and a blind impression with our logos was placed at the bottom. Everything was inked by hand with a brayer rather than using the automated inking system on the press. This gives each print a unique texture as the ink was distributed slightly differently for each print. Printed on heavy chipboard in a limited edition of 25.”

The poster is set to launch on the Proletariat website on November 1st with a variety of new products from the shop.

Tokyo | RRL Japan Tie Dyed T-Shirt

30 October 2009, 19.00 | Posted in Fashion | 3 comments »

Selectism - RRL Japan Tie Dyed T-Shirt

The stand alone Ralph Lauren building on Omotesendo is straight bonkers. The building actually reminds me of the Louis of Boston standalone with the addition of three front doorways, with security, and parking. Inside you’ll find about as complete a Ralph Lauren, RRL, Rugby selection as I have even seen in one spot.

We asked them to pull out some Japan exclusives to which they abided. This Japan only RRL numbered tie-dye was the only look they would allow me to shoot before putting up the big handed “X” which universally means “hell no” in Japanese. 102 pieces were dyed before they called it quits.

Uniqlo Patchwork Flannel Check Shirt

30 October 2009, 18.30 | Posted in Fashion | 5 comments »

selectism - uniqlo-patchwork-flannel-check-shirt-01Here’s another choice pick from Uniqlo. They’ve been the style bloggers secret weapon for eons now – we can’t think of any other high street brand who get namchecked in Monocle and has their own Supertalk thread – and pieces like this prove why they’ve retained that status. Patchwork shirts have a definite marmite effect on people; you either love it, hate it or hate that you love it. Us? we love it, but only in certain colourways (like the purple one above). We’re also in love with the price, coming in at an affordable £14.99. (Uniqlo)

Take a leap to see the rest of the collection after the leap.
