One of our main problems with Tricker’s was the pointy toe and sometimes awkward shape of the shoes. You can have all the heritage background and manufacturing prowess in the world, but it doesn’t mean much if the end result isn’t attractive.
Thankfully Museum Ark have made these custom order shoes – and that’s what all Tricker’s ‘collabs’ are, just custom orders – and have used a very handsome last to make these boots. We’re not usually fans of the long wing, but it really works in this circumstance. Word of warning – don’t wear these shoes (or any shoes with a leather sole) in rain, or you’ll be doing an involuntary James Brown impression during your trip to work. (Museum Ark)

Those look great! But I didn\’t need to see this, I\’m in the middle of a boot kick now.
Tricker’s doesn’t make shoes with pointy toes.
Longwings, not longtips.
I’ve really enjoyed following Selectism for a long time but am increasingly finding the writing pompous and inaccurate, not a great combination! Pointy Tricker’s… What’s with the attitude.
There’s no attitude! We love Tricker’s but a lot of them do have a pointier toe than I like. Take the Malton boot for instance, they’re still technically a round toe, but they’re ever so slightly pointier than, say, Lodger’s Kudu boot.
As for the terminology mixup, that’s just a case of me being of accustomed to the english terms for these sort of things and getting them jumbled up.
There is a definite negative tone pervading in a lot of the posts on here of late. Recent posts about Engineered Garments suggest you need to rise above HYR\’s criticism of the site, while your continued inferences that Lodger might be just that bit better than Trickers make me think there is a conflict of interest with also writing for GC.
I too love this site, but gotta disagree, the MAlton is in no way a pointy boot, in fact, I am gonna take a punt that these are made on a Malton last.
I have a pair of Maltons in Black and Brow, as well as a Stow shoe, the shoe IS more pointy, but the Malton, never.
I think the Malton is a little pointier than I’d like, but only ever so slightly, we may have to agree to disagree on this.
As for ‘Umm’s post, I totally understand about the conflict of interest worry. Although I don’t think I’ve made continued reference to preferring Lodger’s over Trickers – the last comment I left was simply comparing the two, not saying which one was better.
I don’t usually write the posts about Lodger because of this. But these are muddy waters – I genuinely like Lodger’s stuff but I ease off when it comes to writing about them on here because readers will assume that I’m only saying it because I work with them. While the assumptions may be wrong on this occasion, it’d be one I’d make if I saw a similar situation.
I might have expand on this in a blog post, I feel a lot of sites are in similar positions when it comes to stuff like this.
I have to agree with Tom and Umm. Firstly, it looks exactly like a Malton last, but perhaps it\’s best to agree to differ on this. Secondly it\’s the ongoing negativity that really is disappointing. I can think of several brands that Selectism has picked out of late to run down. You are completely entitled to your view but why focus on the negative? Just look once again at the opening sentence of your post… negative!
I wouldn’t say we focus on the negative, but if we don’t like something, we say so. The aim isn’t to rag on brands or be overly negative or anything like that, we just feel it’s best if we state our opinion from time to time. I promise tommorow will be a day of pure love and positivity!
Well done! and no sarcasm whatsoever!
I like your critiques. People take any negative criticism as hate. That\’s what makes you better than Hypebeast because everything is just peddled as great. At least there is some personality to this site.
Can these be purchased in the UK somehow? (Almost paradoxical, I know!)
