selectism - Duffer Mountain Parka

One more peak at Duffer’s new jacket offerings. The Mountain Parka is Duffer’s take on a classic silhouette, complete with cord collars and leather toggles. The Mountain Parka comes in both black and olive. Certainly the strongest item in the new Duffer line.

Grenson For Three Threads Shoes

selectism - grenson-three-threads-01

Shoreditch store The Three Threads have been quietly marking out a niche in Shoreditch for a while now. Whilst most stores in the hipster mecca peddle overpriced vintage garments, The Three Threads have paved the way that Albam and Present have since followed.

As a sign of their credentials, they’ve teamed up with Grenson for these custom order shoes. There’s no unneeded changes here:  just some unique colourways and an insole stamp bearing the Shoreditch boutique’s name. Size-wise it’s definitely a capsule collection, with just four shoe styles in total. There’s two boots (Fred & Sharp), two brogues (Archie & Albert) and the colour ranges from rosewood to black. (The Three Threads)

Take a look at the rest of the collection after the leap.

Golden Goose Snowflake Cardigan

selectism - golden-goose-snowflake-cardigan

In case you hadn’t noticed, we’re all about the patterned cardies this season. There ain’t a pattern too garish, christmassy or OTT – we love ‘em all. The problem with some patterned pieces is that they tend to half step on the pattern itself; either it’s too small or it’s just a little cheap looking. Golden Goose avoid those pitfalls and puts it in a fetching shade of green; a nice alternative to the standard navy. (Browns)

01. Jin Young Yu’s Spooky See Through Dolls

“Okay, I have absolutely no idea what this is (and I don’t speak Russian), but it’s amazing work by Korean artist Jin Young Yu.” (joshspear)

02. Hodinkee Destroys A Reactor Trident (above)

“The Reactor Trident is currently on its way to becoming the most popular watch among men and women in the armed services. The reason? Legend has it it survived 2 IED attacks and a suicide bomber. We at Hodinkee decided to put it through more real life situations, things that we go through with our watches every day. We dropped it from a 40ft bridge, threw it against a brick wall, ran it over with a Bentley, and hit it with a hammer 8 times.”

03. SOLAR DECATHLON 2009: Team Ontario/BC’s North House For Cold Climates

“We’ve been bringing you breaking coverage of this week’s Solar Decathlon in Washington DC throughout the week and one of the most interesting homes to emerge from the competition is the North House, a super sleek, high-tech solar powered home designed to generate more energy than it consumes – an especially impressive feat granted that the home was designed for the extreme climate of Northern Canada.”  (inhabitant)

04. Subports: A text message retail experiment

“Charged by experimentation and a dash of contemporary art world mystique, we bring you Subports, a curious way to buy and sell. Our aim is to significantly lower the barrier of entry to the digital market place by giving local merchants, new-to-the-scene designers and upstart boutiques a competitive advantage in promotion, marketing and selling. Subports allows you to activate a retail presence anywhere — in print, on the web, on the street…” (core77)

Selectism - Compass Show Moves to NYC in February 2010

Some changes are ahead for the independent footwear tradeshow, Compass. Word has come in that they’re moving the show from Vegas to their home turf in New York City. The show will fall during an “unofficial footwear market week” – February 1 and 2 – “one day earlier than FFANY and WSA.” More to come as we hear it.

Selectism - Band Of Outsiders Shetland/Terry Tailored Trousers

A great pair of trousers from the Band of Outsiders camp. “Leave it to band of outsiders to hand-tailor the most innocuous basics and turn them into formal day wear. wool sweatpants feature a slouchy fit with two side pockets, a front button pocket at the waist…” The price point is up there but you are purchasing some quality. Rem The Lamp

Selectism - Rem The Lamp

This dropped into our inbox recently. We may be a bit slow to report on it, but we still love showcasing innovative design that melds multiple areas of interest. Christian Vivanco has designed Rem the Lamp. “Rem (means brake in dutch) is an exercise that reflects an intense research about interaction with the object created, where its configuration answers to an invitation to touch, to experiment and play. The clear inspiration based on components used in bicycles was not the starting point for the development of the product; the real beginning emerged trying to find a pretext for the binding (connection) of 2 functional items that never faced each other before, 2 systems that work without any problems in their environment and were able to carry a fluid conversation within this new space.”

Tween Autumn/Winter 2009

Selectism - Tween Autumn/Winter 2009

We head to Turkey – specifically Istanbul for a preview of the Tween Autumn/Winter 2009 line. The “collection was inspired by James Dean, so they’ve modernised his classic leather jacket, as well as creating contemporary versions of other menswear staples.” The collection for men is wide and should provide some eye candy for those looking to dress in the midpoint of casual and proper.

Selectism - Hermes Calfskin Leather Hoodie

Our Berlin office seems to be gushing over this view of Hermes’ calfskin leather and mink hoodie. It is part of their current Autumn/Winter 2009 collection and should suit many of our European readers well – I guess those in NYC could get away with as well. Mink is not for everyone, but what is?

Helly Hansen Atlas Flow Down Jackets

Selectism - Helly Hansen Atlas Flow Down Jackets

Snow sports dictate the work hours at the New England Selectism office. Simply put, if it’s snowing, we’ll be working hard to ensure that we’re on the slopes. Outwear is a big game, and there a great deal of amazing players in the field. Helly Hansen tends to be one we turn to here as they’ve been at it longer than most. Their Atlas Flow Down Jackets look to be winners for the Winter. “Brand new and highly innovative, the Flow Down’s clean Helly Tech XP waterproof breathable exterior hides 800-fill-power 90/10 white goose down insulated internal hexagonal pillows. These venting channels allow excess heat and moisture to escape and helps maintain a more consistent body temperature.”
