Pierre Hardy Spring/Summer 2010 Shoes

Here’s one for the low profile lovers. Now that boat shoes are on their way out – or will be come 2010 – those of you who still need a shoe that allows for socklessness need look no further than Pierre Hardy’s collection. Hardy uses the laces from boat shoes and interprets them into an altogether sleeker shoe. There’s also the requisite blue suede loafers (pictured above), suede brogues and, oddly, workwear-esque boots.

Take a look at the rest of the shoe collection after the leap.

K-Space Concept Store

selectism - K-Space Concept Store

K-Swiss is a brand not often covered on these pages, but suspend disbelief for a moment. This post is less about brand than it is about interior shop design. The new London concept store was designed by 6a Architects. Through years of working in museums, and finding the storage spaces most exciting, the incorporation of moving library/painting storage units in the space strikes the most. Another point in the brief delivered to 6a is the requirement that the space transform to an open, unbranded, art and music venue at moments notice. In short, the K-Space Concept Store manages to take a corporate initiative and not thrust it down the throat of the consumer.

Moncler Quilted Bomber Jacket

12 October 2009, 15.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - moncler-quilted-bomber-jacket-01With the Baracuta’s resurgence, the bomber jacket has slowly edged its way out of chavdom. Capitalising on that resurgence is Moncler, who’ve created this purdy looking quilted bomber jacket. This wool and cashmere blend (although 95% of that blend is wool) is great for those days when it’s just a bit too chilly for a Baracuta. It’s a Moncler piece, so it goes without saying that you’ll need those extra coins in your pocket to get hold of this. (Farfetch)

Jil Sander Weekend Bag

While Jil Sander’s site doesn’t have everything we hoped for (shouldn’t they be the ones stocking those coats everyone’s raving about?) it does have a fair few hidden gems. This bag originally made an appearance as part of a runway show – we featured it back in the day – and they’ve kept the design for a new season. They use the same canvas and leather as before, but grey canvas is swapped over for navy and the blue straps are switched over for brown. In the words of Larry David, the end result is pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty good. (Jil Sander)

3.1 Phillip Lim Lounge Pants

selectism - phillip-lim-lounge-pants

While Phillip Lim’s menswear collection was earlier accused of being a mere sideshow to the women’s, they’ve always been a few gems in this range. This time it’s these lounge pants, which do a great job of taking an aspect that most reflexively hate (the cuffs at the bottom of sweatpants) and make them into a defining aspect of this piece. While this does make it a little harder to pull off – we wouldn’t wear it with boots – they’d easily work with some lower profile footwear. (Aloha Rag)

Marshall Artist Waxed Canvas Hunting Hat

Selectism - Marshall Artist Waxed Canvas Hunting Hat

The weather is changing quickly and if youre in the rugged cold, you’ll need some options to keep the skull happy. This Waxed Canvas Hunting Cap from Marshall Artist could do the job, though we’re concerned that the wax on canvas will be a bit colder. Then again, the faux fur trim, could solve that issue. Officine Creative Duck Boot

Selectism - Officine Creative Duck Boot

Another option in the duck boot battle. Office Creative’s Duck Boot shows a less shiny and more weathered look to the silhouette with leather wrapping the boot instead of the traditional rubber. Italian made goodness. Barney’s has them. (acquire)

Kirkham Motorsports BIllet Aluminum Auto Book

Selectism - Kirkham Motorsports BIllet Aluminum Auto Book

When Oracle’s CEO, Larry Ellison, throws money into something, it usually has no bottom. Take his commission of Kirkham Motorsports to build “the ultimate, cost is no object, roadster.” Clearly, the production of this vehicle was somehthing worth documenting and Kirkham decided to do it in the form of a 4500$US book. This book documents the project build from beginning to end. It wasn’t until after the book was printed that there was any real thought to distributing it in any fashion beyond a few copies for those intimately involved in the project and a few close friends. As people have begun to see copies of the book, we’ve had requests to sell the billet aluminum bound book. The billet bound book is available on an extremely limited basis for $4,500 per copy.” (br)

Selectism - Pixies Release Doolittle Live CDs/USBs

01. Pixies Release Doolittle Live CDs/USBs (above)

“The Pixies are currently making their way through Europe, playing their classic 1989 album Doolittle in its entirety before bringing the nostalgic experience to the U.S. next month. Those interested in taking the Doolittle live extravaganza home with them are in luck. The band is offering professionally recorded, limited edition CDs and digital downloads of recent and upcoming gigs in London, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris. They’re also hocking “custom USB wristbands,” which include the live audio as well as special Doolittle tour videos…and sound super nerdy even for indie rock geeks.” (p4k)

02. Grizzly Bear Bean Bag, For When You Just Need To Hibernate

“It isn’t really a gadget, but I’d say this bear-shaped bean bag qualifies as gear. Maybe you bring it to your LAN party. Maybe it’s seating for your Windows 7 launch party. Either way, it’s a giant bear you can sleep on without fear of being mauled. When was the last time you had that luxury?” (crunchgear)

03. Stanley Kubrick’s Napoleon: The Greatest Movie Never Made

“For 40 years, Kubrick fans and film buffs have wondered about the director’s mysterious unmade film on Napoleon Bonaparte. Slated for production immediately following the release of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Kubrick’s ‘Napoleon’ was to be at once a character study and a sweeping epic, replete with grandiose battle scenes featuring thousands of extras. To write his original screenplay, Kubrick embarked on two years of intensive research; with the help of dozens of assistants and an Oxford Napoleon specialist…” (taschen)

04. Roof Tiles Change Color Based On The Temperature, Your House’s Mood

“Okay, sure, ideally your entire roof would be comprised of solar tiles that would meet your entire house’s energy demands and would also water your lawn and clean your gutters while they were up there. But, despite pledges of “affordability” something tells us it’ll be awhile before your roof starts juicing your gadgets. This solution from MIT looks a little more practical — and affordable.”  (engadget)
