Stay comfortable in the house or cottage with this uniform cardigan from Filippa K. The long sleeve shawl cardigan is made from 38/31/31 lambswool, mohair, and nylon. Traditional elbow patches “reinforce” the elbows while you read, drink, and eat. A well proper look for the coming seasons. (ssense)

Selectism - Vanishing Elephant Waxed Anorak Jacket

Loading up on the layers as the seasons begin to make the change in the Northeast USA – probably the same thing happening in other lands as well. Boots and coats are what we’re looking at. OAK received this well priced anorak jacket from Vanishing Elephant. Surprisingly in their main shop and not A.OK. “Black waxed jacket. drawstring waist and bottom. 2 front flap pockets with buttons. multiple zippers in front allow for variation in wear. detachable hood. fully lined.”

Ian Baldwin on the London Tube Map

selectism - Ian Baldwin on the London Tube Map

What happens when an icon design is changed? In some cases, public outrage. Recent amendments to the London Tube Map relay a desire to simplify route readings. In this fare zones and, gasp, the River Thames were removed. How could they delete that flowing symbol of London? After the internet was “set ablaze” order was restored, but as Ian Baldwin notes in his essay Mind the Map: Places on Design Observer there’s more to the connection of tube and river in design than this last moment in London Transport History. A fascinating read. Check it here.

Texas Aggie Brand Beef Jerky

selectism - Texas Aggie Brand Beef Jerky

Made mention of this exquisite jerky in a previous post on Washington State University Creamery. Texas A&M has been producing jerky since the 1980s. It is a product of the Rosenthal Meat Science & Technology Center. Smarter jerky you may not find anywhere else.

They use lean round, which is then cut to strips and brined for several days. Once this step is complete the meat is seasoned and smoked over hickory before drying. The result is delicious.

Albam Fisherman’s Striped Crew Neck Jumper

09 October 2009, 17.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - albam-fishermans-crewneck-jumper-01Trust Albam to read our minds. We’ve been on the lookout for a good, winter weight, striped jumper for a while and they’ve obliged us. Styling-wise,  they look most at home with chinos, but don’t just stick to that; switch it up, see what happens – you might just like the end result better than the usual striped jumper-chino combo. There’s three different colour combinations, but our firm fave is the navy/white piece (pictured above). (Albam)

Take a look at the other pieces after the leap.

Norsea Industries Red Goathland Sweater

selectism - norsea-industries-goathland-sweater-01

Keeping in the spirit of positivity, we’re gonna bring you one of our favourite brands from one of our favourite online stores. We’ve been all about the wine colourway this season, but we’re willing to give a lighter shade of red a try. Thankfully, Norsea Industries have obliged us. The shade of red is great, but it’s the collar that makes this so covetable. Add in a reasonable £130 price and we’re sold. There’s even a navy version if you’re not into rouge. (Daniel Jenkins)

Take a look and more images after the jump.

Folk ‘Crochet Pocket’ Cardigan

09 October 2009, 13.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - folk-crochet-pocket-cardigan

Here’s part 2 of our knitwear love-in. A good chunky knit needs to perform certain tasks. First, they should be chunky. Secondly, they should be cosy. Thirdly, they should be able to hold their shape. Although those three sentences sounded like a intro to a Funkadelic song, bear with us – we’re going somewhere with this.

This Folk cardigan ticks all of those boxes and a few more, adding nice detailing on the pockets to make sure you never look boring. Your biggest problem with a cardy like this will be making sure that your girlfriend/boyfriend doesn’t steal it off you. (Oki-Ni)
