Barbour Beacon TO KI TO Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

Selectism - Barbour Beacon TO KI TO Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

ACL gets the scoop on the Spring/Summer 2010 collection from the very popular Barbour Beacon TO KI TO collection. “With the first Barbour Beacon fall collection just hitting stores, Japanese designer Tokihito Yoshida rolls on with another fantastically designed collection of outerwear from the venerable English brand. The new offerings compliment the main Barbour line perfectly, but the Beacon coats are just unique enough to be really desirable without taking anything away from the core collection. That is the tough part of collaborating with such a well known and revered brand like Barbour, making the collaboration product unique but not too too crazy.”

Church’s Spring/Summer 2010

08 October 2009, 17.30 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

selectism - churchs-spring-2010-01Usually, heritage brands aren’t great at Spring/Summer collections – they’re usually too clumpy for summer or there’s just something a little off about them. Church’s bucked that trend with their SS09 collection, a collection of brightly coloured suede deserts and loafers that wouldn’t have been out of place in any stylish man’s wardrobe. Their SS10 collection continues that good work, this time mixing a traditional leather welt with a white EVA foam sole to make a very daring shoe for someone like Church’s. Other shoes include suede brogues, white tennis shoes and loafers, a correspondent number and some good ol’ desert boots.

Take a look at the rest of the collection after the leap.

Rachel Comey Patent ‘Evans’ Derby Shoe

selectism - rachel-comey-evans-caramel-patent-shoe-01

We know that winter has officially arrived, but we’re still on the lookout for a good summer shoe – we’re oddballs like that. Judging from this shoe, Comey’s got us covered. Some of Comey’s shoes have a tendency to ‘bulge’ at the sides due to the lightness of the material, giving the shoe a slightly cheap look; this shoe avoids that issue by being made from patent leather. The leather sole isn’t ideal for wet weather, but we’d be ready to bring these out as soon as the sun comes out again. (Forward)

Casely-Hayford Spring/Summer 2010 Shoes

selectism - casely-hayford-spring-2010-shoes-03

The good folks at Style Salvage turn us on to Casely-Hayford’s SS10 shoe range. The range, which features four shoes in total, range from the ‘ottoman’ brogue to the ‘allotment’ creeper. The latter is definitely the marmite shoe of the bunch, but we feel the right person could pull it off. The Albert quilted slipper (pictured above) is a returning favourite – it’d make a great alternative to the standard loafer and you might even see one of us rocking these come next summer.

Uniforms For The Dedicated Cardigan

selectism - uniforms-for-the-dedicated-cardigan-01

We’re always appreciative of brands that go against the grain. Take Uniforms for the Dedicated for instance; while everyone else is either manning up and talking about hunting, their garments have stayed true to their own aesthetic and they’ve forced people to get on board with it. Who’d have thought that they’d be stocked at somewhere like ASOS – a place which sells affliction clothing – but here they are and here’s our favourite piece from the pieces ASOS picked. We prefer the red, but the black colourway goes hard as well. (ASOS)

Selectism - Japanese Municipal Flags

01. Madrid 2016 Candidature File

The lost the 2016 Olympics but their file is incredible. “Madrid 2016 Candidature File is the document that the city submits to the International Olympic Committee to host the Games of the XXXI Olympiad. It was designed in cooperation with Tau design under the concept “The Games with the human touch” and it contains information on the economic and political situation, legal and health aspects and also a large number of plans describing the sports project.” (packaging)

02. Liu Bolin

“Thanks to Anna for forwarding a link to the quite incredible work of Chinese performance artist Liu Bolin. Known locally as the invisible man Liu paints himself into his surroundings. Explaining his work he says, “My artwork dipicts the diminishing humanity in today’s society. I use my art to reflect on culture, the environment and the fast economic development.” (itsnicethat)

03. Japanese Municipal Flags

“The above are some examples of the flags of the various cities, towns and villages of Japan. After looking at these, the “logo” for my town is very depressing. If I had one of these instead, flying over the place I lived, I would feel infinitely cooler and forever at ease. I am amazed at 1) how many different logos there are and 2) how many of them are absolutely incredible.” (iso50)

04. Elithis Tower: The World’s First Energy Positive Office Building

“For most sustainability-minded architects, a net zero energy building is the holy grail. But Elithis Tower, located in Dijon, France, has surpassed the net zero energy ideal to become the first energy positive office building, meaning it creates more power than it uses. The building, which was designed by Arte Charpentier Architects, also produces six times fewer greenhouse gas emissions than traditional office structures.” (inhabitant)

Now with the help of artist Arne Quinze, they continue to grow into new spaces. Yazter fills us in. “In 2009 L’Eclaireur dares to take it to another level by entrusting the  realization of their new 450 m2 venue on 40 rue de Sévigné in Paris, to Belgian artist Arne Quinze. Founder of Studio Arne Quinze, the conceptual architecture and design platform, Arne Quinze is a self-taught man who’s talent manifests in multiple disciplines: contemporary art, video installations, modern transportation techniques and spaces like Square Brussels Meeting Center (2009), die kunstbar in Cologne (2008) and upcoming a grand conceptual  architecture masterplan for Belair, a 100000 square meter location in   Brussels. Selectism - Steven Alan Flannel Down Vests

These Canadian made flannel vests from Steven Alan “feature goose down for warmth and a contrast flannel lining for comfort.” The vests are reserved in look but feature flannels that remind us of granddad smoking a pipe next to a pile of fire wood up in Maine. I think that’s the point. Available now from Steven Alan.
