Woolrich John Rich & Bros. Arctic Caps

Selectism - Woolrich John Rich & Bros. Arctic Caps

Woolrich’s John Rich & Bros. collection has made further headway into the US market. We’ve seen them at the domestic US tradeshows and we’re excited to have them. This simple winter arctic cap from the John Rich & Bros. collection works. “This cozy winter topper’s fur-lined flaps keep your ears and cheeks nice and toasty when they’re fastened down with the adjustable button closure. This little hat is the perfect headgear accoutrement to your heavy winter parka. Note: if you’re into the quirky idiot-savant look.” Available in a variety of colors from Blackbird.

Washington State University Creamery

selectism - Washington State University Creamery

Some of America’s best foodstuffs come from its fine state colleges. Of note is the beef jerk and American Kobe beef from Texas A&M. Several schools also produce superb ice cream. Washington State University is notable for two things – the cheese from its creamery and the packaging of said cheese. Obvious from the above image, cheeses like Cougar Gold come in a can. In a can? Yes.

Initially, this choice generated much speculation. Given the typical nature of canned cheese (think the steaming glop of orange at many of my local Philadelphia eateries), I was extraordinarily surprised by the quality. Washington State University has been canning cheese since the 1930s. Their belief stands that it is a great way to ensure that the cheese will not be contaminated. Cans contain 30 ounces of cheese at the cost of $18.

Satyenkumar Corduroy Cardigan/Blazer

What do you call a piece like this? If you’re Oki-Ni, you call it a ‘cardigan tailored jacket’. If you’re us, you call it a cardigan/blazer. whatever you want to call it, it’s a great piece. Some of Satyenkumar’s creations can err too far into the avant garde for us, but this would look great on any man confident enough to wear it with pride. The phrase ‘classics with a twist’ has almost turned into a cliche, but it describes this perfectly. At just under £500, you’ll need some extra coins in your pocket to get this, but it’s worth it. Delvaux: 180 Years of Belgian Luxury

curated mag - Delvaux: 180 Years of Belgian Luxury

Founded in 1829 by Charles Delvaux, Brussels-based Delvaux has supplied luggage to European aristocracy and produced creative and well manufactured bags that respond to changes in travel. Celebrating the legacy is an exhibition at Antwerp’s MOMU-Fashion Museum. The installation is as much about the glory of the luggage as work of art as about the companies ability to adapt and respond to new customer needs. In this effort, the exhibition has significant examples of the Delvaux creative process and manufacturing.

Elephant Magazine

Launching a magazine at possibly the most difficult time for magazines in recent history can be bold or foolish – usually a mixture of both. So it’s a surprise to see a large bookstore owner gambling on creating their own magazine in these trying times.

As owner of Magma, Marc Valli knows first hand just how many magazines are selling on a day-to-day basis, giving him a slight leg up on how he should go about his latest venture, Elephant magazine. The magazine focuses on bridging the gap between contempory and commercial art. In a recent interview with Creative Review he stated that, “I think this division has meant that some of the most interesting work went right under the radar. I want Elephant to sit squarely in the middle. I believe that by looking at different art forms from that position, you can create a whole new kind of discourse.” (Magma)

Here we go again, annoying the purists. We know you’re supposed to wear in your denim yourself, but sometimes we just can’t be bothered. Some of these jeans take a year just to break in – a year! We want to cheat and Our Legacy provides us with a chance to do just that. This pair even had the added bonus of being on sale, costing a grand total of £55. There’s only a size 34 left, so you’ll have to be quick. (Kiosk 78)

Pointer Saha Shoes

selectism - pointer-saha-shoes-01

Still wearing boat shoes? really? It’s cold outside now. Covering up with socks won’t do it. Deck shoes are as summery as shorts and you wouldn’t wear those in winter would you?

Pointer are another of those brands who are bridging the gap between streetwear and fashion orientated clothing (the latter needs a snappy nickname). These aren’t new by any sense of the word, but they’re perfect for those days when you’re in some chinos or cords and don’t want to look like you copied an outfit from Free & Easy. Just don’t wear it with denim – that’s far too obvious. And put away those boat shoes. (Flatspot)
