Rapha Knitted Hats

29 October 2009, 20.00 | Posted in Accessories | No comments »

Selectism - Rapha Knitted Hats

Another strong product from the Rapha family of goods. Their knitted cap is a nice take on the classic ear muff protectors. “Made from 100% merino wool, Rapha’s Knitted Hat offers comfort and protection on even the coldest days. Styled in a traditional Belgian shape, the hat has a knitted peak and a ribbed earband. Featuring a contrast stripe, the earband can be worn up or down depending on the conditions.”

Selectism - J Shoes Fall/Winter 2009

Crepe is every where these days, including on this boot from the J Shoes Autumn/Winter 2009 collection. Be sure to click into the looks we’ve provided below. The grey suede finish is a great look against the contrasting grey trim and sole.

COS Spring/Summer 2010 Duffle Coat

29 October 2009, 18.30 | Posted in Fashion | 5 comments »

selectism - cos-spring-2010-duffel-coat

Yes, this is a duffle (according to COS anyway). We’d call this a parka ourselves, but that’s just the pedant in us. Like COS’s SS09 car coat, this’d make a great summer weight jacket and you could wear it well into autumn (like we’re doing with the car coat). If we had to change anything it’d be the buttons – navy buttons on a navy coat scream laziness to us. That aside, it’s a great coat and changing buttons shouldn’t cost more than ten of whatever currency you use (yen excluded).

After the jump we’ve featured a nice looking double breasted blazer – and there’s prizes on guessing what we’d change on that either. These, along with the SS10 collection will be in COS stores from January.

Huck/Little White Lies Split Cover Illustration

selectism - huck-white-lies-split-cover-01

Magculture turns us onto the news of Huck and Little White Lies split cover. The magazines, which are both published by The Church of London, have teamed up to celebrate Spike Jonze’s much hyped new film release. Whilst Spike Jonze’s new film has captured the zeitgest (or at least the trendsetter zeitgest), this is by far the best way we’ve seen it publicised.

Take a look at the original illustration after the leap.

Wolf vs. Goat Shirting

selectism - Wolf vs. Goat Shirting

With twelve years of experience in the fashion industry, designers Maurio Farinelli and Heather Karpoff introduce their line Wolf vs. Goat. The moniker derives from the pair’s pet names for each other and focuses on the keynotes of fine clothing – fit, fabric, and manufacture. They’ve started with shirts, but will expand to trousers and outerwear in the near future.

Representative of the shirting offerings is the “Before Dinner Shirt” seen above. A nice surprise is the hidden pocket inside the chest pocket. Quite useful for those of use (like me) that use shirt pockets for change.

For the moment the line is available exclusively from Farinelli’s.

More from Wolf vs. Goat’s shirting after the jump.

Post Overalls Melton Wool Overshirt

selectism - post-overalls-melton-overshirt-01Remember when we teased you with that Lee for Journal Standard post yesterday? Well today we’re making up for it. This Post Overalls piece is readily available to the western hemisphere and is nearly identical to the Lee/JS joint – give or take some gold buttons and one chest pocket. Like we said yesterday, this is a versatile jacket that can be worn in the traditional workwear fashion or you can go all superfashion with it. The choice is up to you. Just don’t wear it the latter way in front of workwear fanatics. (Superdenim)

Comme Des Garcons Shirt Tweed Blazer

29 October 2009, 14.30 | Posted in Fashion | 3 comments »

selectism - comme-des-garcons-shirt-tweed-blazer-01

Long time readers will know that we’ve been loving CDG since the day we were born. A firm SL fave, their latest CDG shirt collection is full of covetable pieces, including this tweed blazer. Whilst a tweed blazer isn’t anything special on its own, the cut and quality make this a step up from the usual vintage garb. The lapels are suitably slim – unlike 99% of vintage tweed blazers -  which immediately gives the blazer some modernity. The price isn’t cheap, but it’s what you’d expect from CDG. (ASOS)

As always, detailed images are after the click.

Selectism - Make Wallpaper A Unique Place For Storage

01. Baton Rouge Library / Trahan Architects

“Louisiana based Trahan Architects, a firm with expertise in institutional design and religious architecture (check the Holy Rosary Church Complex, remarkable project), recently unveiled conceptual design for the renovation and expansion of the River Center Branch Library.” (archdaily)

02. Make Wallpaper A Unique Place For Storage (above)

“Make wallpaper a unique place for storage. A unique solution and replacement to the wall mounted racks…” (notcot)

03. Andy Warhol Polaroids

“Andy Warhol understood the power of immediacy, and the Polaroid Big Shot camera he purchased in 1970 became his favorite tool to capture the heat of the momentous life he lived. The exhibition Big Shots: Andy Warhol Polaroids at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University features nearly 250 Polaroids and 75 black and white prints of the images taken by Warhol from 1970 to 1987.” (coolhunting)

04. Philips Design’s ‘Food Probe’ Promotes Healthy Eating With 3 Concepts

“Pesticides. Genetic-modification. Mistreated animals. It could just about kill anyone’s appetite to hear about all the horrible news about food production. Fortunately, the emerging food revolution focuses on both health and re-establishing the connection between people and the food they eat (making it harder to abuse our food sources). Designers are both leading and answering this shift in interest. Philips Design has begun an investigation called ‘Food Probe’ that looks at current social trends and how this may affect the way that people will eat in the future — and how this will manifest in design. Their investigation includes three parts: a self-contained farm for the kitchen, a nutrition farm and a high-tech cooking device.” (inhabitant)

American Stories: Paintings of Everyday Life

28 October 2009, 23.21 | Posted in Art | No comments »

curated mag - American Stories: Paintings of Everyday Life

Now on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, American Stories: Paintings of Everyday Life collects images from the revolution to WWII that reflect changing standards of American art as well as explore the times of their creation. The exhibition explores how American artists responded to narrative, tackling themes of childhood, family, marriage, and more. Emphasis is on paintings that were produced through direct interaction with clients rather than based on history or myth. American Stories runs through January 24, 2010 and also includes an excellent web component. (via Curated).

Above is “Club Night” by George Bellows, 1907. More exhibition highlights after the jump.
