Band Of Outsiders Duffle Coat

28 October 2009, 11.30 | Posted in Fashion | 7 comments »

selectism - band-of-outsiders-duffle-coat-01While duffle coats had been doing the rounds amongst the super-early adopters last year (Oi Polloi have been carrying Gloverall for years now), it was only recently that Duffle coats were fully brought back into fashion mainstream. And one of the main instigators was this Band Of Outsiders duffle. The black colourway makes it a little less versatile than the usual navy duffle, but the detachable hood – big enough to fit any size noggin – and cropped length more than make up for that. Selectism - Man Spends $50,000 to Recreate a First-Class Pan Am Cabin in His Garage

01. Whatup Doggy. Hello Kitty.

“I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into tonight.  Angelique invited me to come out to the VIP reception for THREE APPLES : CELEBRATING 35 YEARS OF HELLO KITTY at Royal/T in Culver City.  I just figured it was a Hello Kitty art show.  I’m not a Hello Kitty head, but I do appreciate what the brand entails, it’s influence on Japanese and American culture, and the genius of it all.  If anything, perhaps some interesting blog material for you guys.” (th)

02. Jones Soda Halloween Edition

“Now THESE are some creative Halloween cans! Designed by Superbig Creative…Jones Soda has introduced a line of spooktacular 8oz cans, to be found exclusively in the candy aisles of Target stores nationwide.” (dieline)

03. Man Spends $50,000 to Recreate a First-Class Pan Am Cabin in His Garage (above)

“Anthony Toth is so obsessed with perfectly recreating a vintage Pan Am first-class cabin in his garage that he once traveled to Thailand for—wait for it—original Pan Am branded headphones. And his obsession goes much deeper than that” (gizmodo)

04. Bel & Bel Recycling Old Vespa Scooters Into Office Furniture

“As cool as vintage Vespa scooters are – which would be very cool indeed, if you ask us – there’s no debate that the old air-cooled, two-stroke, single cylinder engines are extremely damaging to the environment. Of course, it seems like such a shame to let all those pretty Italian scooters go to waste, which is one reason why we like electric scooter conversions like this one.” (autobloggreen)

Tokyo | Rocker’s Island Record Shop

Selectism - Tokyo | Rockers Island Record Shop

Not many shops remain in this world that sell vinyl. Even less remain focused in on genres that output massive amount of tunes to 7inch vinyl. Tokyo’s Rocker’s Island does just that by delivering to a dancehall, dub, and reggae heavy city with what looks to be one of the widest selections of the genres outside of Jamacia or London. New and old releases line every centimeter of their Shibuya shop. And you know what’s crazy? They actually have a steady flow of business – something you do see too often in present day music retail.

Selectism - Tokyo | Clarks Desert Boot Mahogany UK

Looking over the 20% rack in a local shop shop, I discovered my favorite of Clark silhouettes, the Desert Trek, in a a burnt brown distressed leather calling itself mahogany. As a completist I would consider picking this colorway up, but my budget minded self noticed it may still be available through UK channels. If this is not true, I could be in for some strange regrets. Odd colored Clarks lend themselves well to conversation.

Selectism - Tokyo | Red Wing Boots in Japan

When you walk through the shopping centers of Tokyo you’ll find more footwear than you could ever dream of. While many are mainline commons which can be found throughout the globe, you’ll occasionally run into some regional exclusives which at times can be tough to pick out. To a well read and aware eye, you’ll find some excellent Red Wing Japan exclusives. We’ve included a look at some of our favorite models. Do note that some images have a slight mix of Japan and global Red Wing drops. Good luck.

Selectism - Tokyo | Mr. Hearts Packable Windbreaker

Another interesting piece found at Freak’s Store in Japan from their inhouse label, Mr. Hearts. These packable windbreakers (which are built thicker than your normal windbreaker) are designed in Japan by Kiyonobu Nannichi and feature a very welcomed sun/eyeglass pocket below the chest for easy access to your spectacles. The windbreakers include a nice pack away baggie.

Selectism - Canada Goose Black Disc Humpton Blue Collection

Canada Goose is deep in the regional game with their “Black Disc” designation for the Japan market. In order to make them even more special, they pull old style logo badges from their archive and mixing them into a variety of Japan only shell colors. You’ll find a variety of exclusive colors for different shops in the city but their Humpton Blue colorway is solo to Freak’s Canada Goose shop only. Three models are included in the Humpton Blue collection.

COS Spring/Summer 2010 Zip Desert Boots

27 October 2009, 18.30 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

selectism - cos-spring-2010-bootHere’s a sneaky peek at COS’s SS10 collection. While their clothes get most of the fanfare (and rightly so) COS have been releasing stylish and affordable shoes for a while now. What immediately makes these stand out is the whole cut – giving the shoe a sleekness that other zip detailed shoes lack. That fact that these are only £129 doesn’t hurt either. Look for them to drop in COS stores in January.

Selectism - Tokyo | Wilson vs. Freak Store Fingerless Gloves

Harajuku is both a gold and landmine of a district. Some gold came in the form of this special collaboration between locals Freak’s Store and Wilson. Inside of a box that would usually house a baseball you’ll find a pair of fingerless gloves to keep you warm in the cold (I could use a pair myself back in New England). What I love about these gloves is the packaging. Well done.

Lounge Lizard Parka

selectism - lounge-lizard-parka

Has anyone noticed that duffles are this year’s pea coat? We’ve already seen them around on several reputable fellas. Because we always like being ahead of the curve, we’re only gonna be posting up duffles with a twist. Like this parka/duffle hybrid. While the twists in this are minimal, the fur hood (real fur, we might add) is enough to make this coat stand out from the duffle-coated herds. As always with Japanese pieces, you’ll have to get your proxy on. (Mindtrive)
