Selectism - BRAUN Fifty Years of Design and Innovation

Industrial designers and fans may be interested in a new retrospective book being issued profiling 50 years of the Braun brand. Bernd Polster’s BRAUN – Fifty Years of Design and Innovation BRAUN Fifty Years of Design and Innovation is a 504 page tome chronicling the “Dr” years. ”Braun is not merely a trademark; it stands for an allencompassing concept. For the last five decades, this concept has spawned innovative products with an unprecedented regularity that begs to be explained – especially as the era spanned by the history of Braun design is not exactly one characterized by continuity. Instead, the second half of the 20th century witnessed a dramatic change in living conditions.”

Available for pre-order from Amazon BRAUN Fifty Years of Design and Innovation.

This cold very well be the last Big Bang of the year. We love this model and their desire to help world collectors by introducing multiple variations and limited editions of their Bang series. It has an AR-coated sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 100 meters. “The rotor is tungsten carbide with black PVD treatment.” A ‘banger’ for sure. 250 units are being produced. (timezone)

curated mag - Design Observer Holiday Cards

Typically, posts related to Design Observer are dedicated to excellence in commentary. However, the search for cards has lent itself to something a touch different. The holiday card collection, with images selected by Eric Barker who is responsible for the “Today” column, are simple and direct. With a thoughtful selection of seasonal looks, the assorted cards hit on many a holiday theme – the tree, the office party, and the joys of giving being favorites. (via Curated).

NDC ‘Ladykiller’ Collection

30 November 2009, 16.30 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

selectism - ndc-ladykiller-01A wise man once said ‘the shoes maketh the man’ – a sentiment NDC clearly agree with. That’s why they’ve created this new line to go alongside their AW09 collection, entitled the Ladykiller collection.

According to the press release these have been treated with ‘plants and bark before being scrubbed with natural soap and scrubbed to give a worn-out finish’ – nice to know. And aside from being worthy info, it’s also something you can recite to a date if you like being incredibly literal with your shoes.

Take a look at the rest of the collection after the leap.

Klassen Canoes

selectism - Klassen Canoes

All I want for Christmas is a hand-crafted wooden boat. At this point, it is between a canoe from Klassen or a kayak from previously featured Guillemot Kayaks. Both produce stunning craft, equally suited to hitting the water or conspicuous display. Klassen, run by John Klassen, incorporates magnificent inlay in the canoe design. Needless from a boat building point of view, fantastic from an aesthetic one.

Klassen was inspired by his grandfather, an accomplished carpenter, and father, a canoe guide, and began building boats 30 years ago. Located in Whitefish, MT, each Klassen boat is built from 200 hours of John’s devoted attention.

In short, boats like these are the American made product that really make my mouth water.
