selectism - Fjallraven New York

Yesterday marked the grand opening of Fjallraven’s first North American outlet. The Swedish company was founded in 1950 by a young lad named Ake Nordin. At 14, he’d already realized that much of the equipment produced for hiking and outdoor pursuits was not up to his standard. Rather than make due, he created a framed back pack. This pack formed the basis for Fjallraven, which to this day is still noted for its day packs.

The store, located at 262 Mott Street in New York’s NoLita, carries all the Fjallraven favorites – included (obviously) bags and the 60/40 Greenland Parka. Aside from those, the store also peppers in some other European outdoor goods in the form of Dale of Norway sweaters (these are super popular amongst women in Southeastern, MA… just saying), Granfors Axes, and Hanwag Boots. A sprinkling of Scandinavian and American vintage outdoor wear is also available.

With the store opening, Fjallraven will officially begin making all product available in the United States. Great news for all with an outdoors gear fetish, perhaps better than the shop itself.

More images of the newly opened space after the jump.
