Here’s an interesting opportunity for anyone visiting/working/sightseeing/drinking/smoking/hiding/raving in Berlin this Winter. Edsor, the make of fine ties, scarves, and more will open their archives for the public to create their own looks via Wood Wood Berlin. “Now in its fifth generation Edsor continues to create hand-made silk products based on tradition, quality and craftsmanship. Designed in Berlin, produced in Berlin, 100% Italian silk. For the first time ever Edsor opens their fabric archive to the public exclusively at Wood Wood Berlin. Create your own tie, scarf or bow-tie from more than one hundred vintage silk fabric rolls dating from 1974 to 1998.” Edsor runs at Wood Wood Berlin from November 20th through January 2nd, 2010.

Selectism - Comme des Garçons The Beatles Collection T-Shirts

How could we not fill our CdG quota for the month with their The Beatles Collection. I wish I could have been inside Apple Corp. offices when this deal went through (almost as cool as having been in the Henson offices when Supreme came calling). Well, the collection’s standouts to most are the bags and button down shirt, but this is rock music, so I’ll go for the t-shirts. Priced on some next level plane of 115$US per t-shirt – hey, it’s CdG. (dsm)

Selectism - Swarovski Studded Christmas Tree Stand

Too much is never enough it would seem. Check this Swarovski Christmas Tree Stand available from Exquisit. It’s a stand which is lined and set with a bazillion Swarovski crystal. It is slightly interesting considering that most stand are rarely seen once you lay gifts underneath a tree. Then again, the stand itself may limit your gift giving. Available for 14000$US bangers. #woah (bornrich)

Selectism - Jay Kos Spring 2010 Collection

R29 previews the Jay Kos Spring 2010 collection with a focus on pastels for men. “Now that it’s pitch black by 6:00 pm, pastel anything is a welcome sight. Classy menswear in pastel, however, is a whole other kind of nice. Jay Kos delivers the goods with a spring 2010 collection of sportswear and accessories that turn any gent into a dapper box of mints—and we mean that in the most masculine way possible! Designer Jay Kos’ unique take on dressing comes from his small-town upbringing and a need to add a splash of color to the conformist attitudes around him.”

West County Ciders

selectism - west county ciders

If you are lucky enough to live in Massachusetts, you are then lucky enough to have access to West County Ciders. The range is, quite probably, America’s best hard cider. Family owned, West County started selling Cider commercially in 1984, becoming the first American winery to specialize in hard ciders.

The Maloney’s moved to the Berkshires from Northern California in 1972. Avid wine makers, they applied those same techniques to cider and were impressed with variety that could be produced by blending apple varieties and experimenting with cellaring techniques. What resulted is an impressive range showcasing the individual characteristics of the apple. From crisp to sweet, West County Cider’s are as much about the variety of apple as they are about the end product. There is a particular interest in discovering and believing in the potential of each type. West County maintains its own orchard, growing American, English, and French apples. This leads to good fruits, and better ciders.

Dry Baldwin is a personal favorite, with a dry crisp finish.

The full range is well described  in full on their website.

The Hill Side Selvedge Chambray Tie

selectism - hill-side-tie-01

We’ve always got admiration for folks who find a niche in a hard place. If you’d told us that someone was making a bunch of selvedge chambray ties, pocket squares and scarves a couple of years ago, our response would have been ‘get out of town, that’ll never work’ (or something else involving an expletive). But the Hill-Side have done just that and made them look great to boot. We’re not sure what colour you’d call these – Oi Polloi calls them plum violet – but they just look pink to us. (Oi Polloi)

Take a look at detailed images and how we styled it (from our seven days feature) after the leap.

Holiday Items from House Industries

selectism - Holiday Items from House Industries

The Christmas decorations covering central London have managed two things – the first has been to trick me into believing it is December (leading to several embarrassing phone calls and a hastily produced Christmas wish list ). Secondly, and related, I’ve actually gotten into the Christmas spirit a bit. I may even send some cards this year.

That feeling has generated a solid search for interesting cards. Those with a little wit, or solid graphic design, typically working best in my mind. House Industries does a good job providing the latter. While they’ve not got cards explicitly, they have produced two pieces from Marilyn & John Newhart from their 1969 Santa Print. Initially conceived as a massive card, the print on both paper and maple is quite nice indeed.

See both after the jump and head to the House Industries Pop Up Shop at the Type Collectors Club, 347 W. 36th Street, New York if your interested. If you’d rather stay home, you can also simply go online, where there are a number of other cool new House things too (like bike shorts, Jeff).
