Our Legacy Hemp Denim Blazer

19 November 2009, 14.30 | Posted in Denim | No comments »

selectism - our-legacy-hemp-denim-blazer-01

We’ve been in love with Tres Bien lately. What can we say? They keep bringing out great pieces that we can’t help but feature. Take this Our Legacy hemp denim blazer for instance. Our Legacy are sold in a fair few places this season but, as you’d expect given their relationship, TB are the only folks who’ve got their hands on this piece. While it’s not a suitable jacket, it’d work great as a layering piece. You could even triple the denim (shirt, jacket, jeans) if you had enough contrasting shades. (Our Legacy)

As usual, detailed images after that leap.

Soulland ‘Workers’ Chino

19 November 2009, 11.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - soulland-workers-chino-01

We’re noted fans of Soulland here, they give pieces great quirky touches (remember that fedora cap?). What elevates these chinos above a pair of bog-standard chinos is the shade of blue – a few shades above the usual navy, but not so light that you look out of place wearing them in winter – and the pressing. We keep on hearing about how pressed trousers/chinos/jeans are due for a comeback, but this is our first time seeing it in a ‘real’ setting. We were on the fence with regards to this trend, but if they’re as good as these we’ll get behind it. (Azita)

Detailed images after the leap.

“Kingston University graduate Xiaoli Wen has created a series of porcelain bottles shaped by a waterfall. Called Water-Shaped Bottles, the project involved  designer making silicone rubber moulds of discarded plastic and glass bottles.” (dezeen)

02. Brush Furniture by Jason Taylor (above)

“Wouldn’t it be great if you could clean your floors with a piece of furniture?” (designmilk)

03. This Woman Makes Chairs That Will Hug You

“She lives in a converted knob factory a few blocks from MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Neri Oxman’s apartment — a series of cold white walls and clean right angles — has all the warmth of a parking garage” (esquire)

04. Eye Candy: LAb[au]’s f5×5x5

“That there is the Brussels-based collective LAb[au]’s new project/installation, the unwieldily-named ‘f5×5x5.’ The quartet of creatives behind LAb[au], Manuel Abendroth, Jerome Decock, Alexandre Plennevaux and Els Vernang, examine “the transformation of architecture and spatio-temporal structures in accordance to the technological progress within a practice entitled ‘MetaDeSIGN.’ Metadesign [meta = information about information] displays the theme of space-constructs relative to information processes – architecture as code.’” (core77)

MB&F And Alain Silberstein HM2.2 “Black Box” Watch

Selectism - MB&F And Alain Silberstein HM2.2 “Black Box” Watch

ABTR gives their criticism of the MB&F watch developed with Alan Silberstein. “From a practical standpoint MB&F watches are wearable art. Few people would actually wear and HM1, HM2, or HM3 watch all the time, but I for one quite appreciate them. Max Busser of the brand is a marketing master as well. He really knows how to get people excited about his watches, and items such as this limited edition of 8 pieces HM2.2 watch are a great was of doing that. For me, this collaboration with watch maker Alain Silberstein is very impressive. I don’t know whose idea it was, Max’s or Alain’s but the result is said to have quite shocked Mr. Busser….” Read more at ABTR.

Alex Knost for Raen Eyewear Spring 2010

Selectism - Alex Knost for Raen Eyewear Spring 2010

Raen Eyewear teams up with Alex Knost to develop a co-op frame for their second complete collection coming in Spring 2010. “Staying true to RAEN’s vintage-inspired foundation, the ‘Flowers’ frame is a throwback to the days at the Factory and the gender-bending Andy Warhol-esque style. This collaboration with Alex was seamless as we share the same philosophy and taste when it comes to product design (strong attention to detail, classic shapes, and overall quality).” Look for it March 2010.
