Selectism - Mountain Research Belted Coat

More items from the Mountain Research collection. This belted coat is cut from melton wool and features two distinct leather strapping for closure placed high up on the chest. This closure allows for the wearer to get some leg room for a nice jog while skirting the law. A great look. (arks)

01. Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor Talks Jay-Z, Twilight Soundtrack, Solo Project

“When we saw him [Jay-Z]. We were waiting to go onstage, and Ed [Droste] spotted him first and was like, “Oh man, he actually showed up.” We had got word, like, “He’s supposed to be coming so make sure he can get in.” And we were like, “He’s not coming.” We were shocked. It came about through Solange Knowles, Beyoncé’s younger sister, who’s a total sweetheart and a friend of the band’s. I guess Beyoncé was into “Two Weeks”, and she must have brought Jay-Z along.” (Pitchfork)

02. Brand New Secondhand (pictured above)

“Fifteen minutes from downtown Seattle, architects Annie Han and Daniel Mihalyo transformed the neighborhood dump—a lot that had been vacant for 30 years—into their dream home.” (Dwell)

03. Yeah Yeah Yeahs set to play ‘Fever To Tell’ in full at ATP

Selectism - Red Wing Lineman Black 2934 Boot

Red Wing and Red Wing Japan seem to be an unstoppable force in the heritage boot market. The Lineman 2934 in black continues to push this point. It’s an incredibly solid “Made in the USA” boot which has been reworked by many other boot makers – and we absolutely appreciate the competition. Like most boots, the more you wear them, the better they’ll look. (arks)

Frauscher 717 GT Boat

Selectism - Frauscher 717 GT Boat

Call them boats or yachts, these are mega machines on the waterways. Yatzer gets deep into the Frauscher family of watercrafts and for good reason!  ”Engelbert Frauscher quickly gained an excellent reputation and in the 1930s crafted O-Yawls for the Olympic Games. Nevertheless, war broke through and things froze for a while to restart in 1945 in Gmunden, where tradition went on and on.  In the ‘50s the first electric and motor boats left that very yard and ever since, Engelbert’s sons and grandsons and their kids continuously advanced the development. Today, their diamonds of boats are being distributed and loved in more than 14 countries.” These must be seen – check the 717 GT.

Selectism - Raymond Weil Freelancer Gold Chronograph

Classic face timepieces tend to go without love here, but since we’re fighting the rose gold battle, we figured this Raymond Weil Freelancer Gold Chronograph should receive some attention. Again, it’s a timeless look. As Timezone tells us, “The case, in 18kt brushed and polished rose gold, measures 42mm. The crystal is an AR-coated sapphire as is the display back. It is water resistant to 100 meters.” Sure, your father may rock something similar but maybe he’s onto something.

Selectism - Tom Ford Pablo Aviator Sunglasses

This classic aviator shape is not a new look but the fit that these Tom Ford Pablos afford may be. As Eyegoodies mentions, “Real sunglass history buffs will notice the influence of an old (1970?s) Ted Lapidus aviator with the plastic inserts in, and the Porsche Design Aviators (1980?s) with the plastic inserts out. The Pablo is offered in 3 colors gold/light havana (pictured above), gunmetal/dark havana, and gold/black. This is a very unique piece offering 2 different looks built into one pair of sunglasses.” The Pablo’s feature two sets of interchangeable lenses which help balance the sunshine.

selectism - hackett-spring-2010-bow-tieBy now you either love or hate bow ties, there’s no middle ground on this one. Those that love their bow ties will be glad to know about this Hackett piece – it’s perfect for those spring days when you’re doing nothing but looking nautically good. Those that hate bow-ties will already have changed sites by now, so there’s no need to address them. Like all SS10 pieces, expect this to drop in January.

Ralph Lauren Kempton Quilted Jackets

selectism - ralph-lauren-quilted-jacket-01

Here’s another great quilted jacket – this time it’s from Ralph Lauren. And, in case you were wondering, this is from his Polo range. There’s always a transitional phase when it comes to new (or not so new) styles coming into fashion. The main one is just getting used to something visually – that’s one of the reasons why most people can’t cope with wide leg trousers. Now everyone’s visually adjusted to quilted jackets we can start picking out ones with quirky details. The detail on this is the gunpatch, which breaks up the monotony quite nicely. (Ralph Lauren)
