Selectism - Ksubi Eyewear 2010 Collection "Book Club"

Ksubi Eyewear drops 13 new unisex frames as part of their “09/10″ collection entitled “Book Club.” As mentioned in their releases the frames are left unpolished and raw giving them a more modern touch. “By minimising the detail of the curves, acetates, metals and lenses, the flatness and sharpness of the finish and appearance of each frames is enhanced… Ksubi’s own acetate developments include unique digital printed leopard design & layered colour acetates with laser cuts in colours such as ksubi leopard print, leopard tortoiseshell, charcoal, navy, ivory frosts and fuchsia.”

curated mag - Elizabethan Architecture

Mark Girouard’s new book, Elizabethan Architecture, highlights the unique and fascinating composition of Elizabethan buildings. Beyond, Girouard delves into the social structure of the period illuminating the evolution of the house plan and the influence of Europe on craftsmen and patrons in England. His principal argument stems from cross-cultural pollination, but ultimately points to Elizabethan Architecture as a particularly English achievement.

Partagas 100 Cigar Humidor by David Linley

Selectism - Partagas 100 Cigar Humidor by David Linley

While my smoke habits may not be of the cigar variety, I do appreciate a proper humidor when I see one. David Linley has built a one of one humidor for 20LTD. “The LINLEY architectural humidor is based on this iconic building and contains 100 cigars from the ‘Partagas Serie D’ Limited edition. It is a landmark piece of craftsmanship and design. The box itself is constructed in sycamore, with cherry mouldings and lippings and marquetry detailing in walnut, sycamore and ebony. The interior is lined with Spanish cedarwood and contains a ‘CigarSpa’ humidification system. The box also contains secret drawers and compartments hidden within the structure.”

Juvenes: The Joy Division Photographs of Kevin Cummins

05 November 2009, 18.30 | Posted in Books & Magazines | No comments »

selectism - juvenes-joy-division-photography-01There’s no shortage of books on Ian Curtis or Joy Division. At this point, everyone recognises Ian Curtis as a certified musical and style icon and he’s revered accordingly. It reached a point when Men.Style (RIP) labelled him as an ‘overinfluencer’. What makes this book different from the others is the fact that Kevin Cummins had captured them from their beginnings as ‘Warsaw’ to their heady heights. And, as you’d expect, there’s more than enough unseen images to make this worth a purchase. It is a first edition collectable copy though, so the £200 price tag shouldn’t be much of a shock. Glenroyal Briefcase

selectism - glenroyal-slim-briefcase-01

Japanese fashion have done an amazing job of keeping companies afloat during the times when heritage hasn’t been in fashion. Scottish label Glenroyal have been quietly going about making pieces like this for the Japanese market whilst keeping their distinctly old school image over in the UK. Like most pieces like this, it’s currently only available in Japan, although we’re sure it’s only a phone call or two away if you really want it. (Decentages)

Want Les Essentiels 24hr Malpensa Travel Bag

selectism - want-les-essentiels-travel-bag-01

While we don’t believe in limiting ourselves brand wise, we’d happily feature Want Les bags every day if we could. This bag, which has just dropped at Oak in this black colour, is their well established ‘Malpensa’ style in 24hour form. While we’re usually fans of bags in brown, there’s something undeniably sleek about an all black bag. As you’d expect, this isn’t cheap, but it is worth the (considerable) amount of money it costs. Song remains the same, detailed images after the leap.

Perks & Mini Check Shirt

selectism - perks-mini-check-shirt-01

You know what we’re into? Pieces like this. It’s a little nuts, a little all over the place and therefore blog worthy. And in the age of people wishing they dressed like 1930’s factory workers, it’s also a rare joy. What raises this above the flood of other check shirts at the moment is the panel detailing, which make two gameboy-esque ‘+’ signs on the front. There’s even invisible zip pockets for the folks who like carrying something in their shirts – although we wouldn’t carry anything heavy in them. And, more importantly, it’ll bring some life to a chambray’ed out wardrobe. (Goodhood)

Selectism - Knot 0hundred Timepiece

01. Ravenscraig Sport Facility / Populous

“Populous, commissioned by North Lanarkshire Council, sportscotland and Ravenscraig Ltd. to design a new regional sport facility, recently announced that work on the new recreation centre has reached the half way stage.” (archdaily)

02. Knot 0hundred Timepiece (above)

“The name and the design focus of the Knot 0hundred Timepiece is quite fitting, given its designers’ history in the auto industry– it looks like it was born in a high end motor studio.   The Knot design duo of Nicholas DiLoreto and Kort Neumann fashioned this watch as a representation of “the strong relation of shape in tandem with function”, which sounds like a pretty version of the “form follows function” cliche.  However, their work here is truly stunning, and the shape of this watch is obviously a response to its functional needs.” (coolist)

03. Marc Owens

“London based designer Marc Owens has recently created Avatar Machine. Explaing that “The virtual communities created by online games have provided us with a new medium for social interaction and communication. Avatar Machine is a system which replicates the aesthetics and visuals of third person gaming, allowing the user to view themselves as a virtual character in real space via a head mounted interface.” (itsnicethat)

04. The Beatles Stereo USB Apple – 14 digital albums on a fruit-shaped USB device

“The unique, apple-shaped USB drive is loaded with the re-mastered audio for The Beatles’ 14 stereo titles, as well as all of the re-mastered CDs’ visual elements, including 13 mini-documentary films about the studio albums, replicated original UK album art, rare photos and expanded liner notes. A specially designed Flash interface has been installed, and the 16MB USB’s audio and visual contents will be provided in FLAC 44.1 Khz 24 bit and MP3 320 Kbps formats, fully compatible with PC and Mac.” (beatles)

Hard Graft 3FOLD Overnighter Bag

04 November 2009, 23.30 | Posted in Accessories | 6 comments »

Selectism - Hard Graft 3FOLD Overnighter Bag

A new bag from Hard Graft has dropped and we’re big fans of it. “The 3FOLD is a slim Laptop Bag, a sizable A2 Portfolio Case and a spacious Overnighter. Just switch to the configuration you need, this bag is as flexible as your lifestyle demands. The 3FOLD is handmade from a bespoke vegetable tanned Italian leather which is dyed through and hand finished in grey with a hint of teal. This is juxtaposed with a chestnut brown leather shoulder strap which can be used in all three configurations. The leathers are coloured with natural dyes which enhance the look over time and use.”

They’re assembled in Italy and hand numbered – though we’re not clear of that importance of that. It is, of course, a bag after all is said and done.
