J Lindeberg brings the results of their Autumn/Winter 2009 collection into a hard format that can be viewed and studied for some time. Their Biannual Book is an attempt to tell a fuller story – one that expands beyond lookbook and runway views. The book is being published in an edition of 400 and is available for viewing through retailers and online.

Filius is a Los Angeles based shirt maker who have been in business since 2006. Their slim fitting shirts are not only locally made by tailors in town, but also take subtle risks in style. For instance, the Filius No.127 Shirt, features a shoulder overlay reminiscent of an old hunting garment, but much less forward. Bast part is they serve the No.127 pattern on a variety of fabrics. Selectism Columnist Beau Colburn visit the STAGES installation in NYC last week. He shares with us his thoughts on the event over on his Column. “There was a nice mix of paintings, photos, and sculptures. One piece that I kept coming back to was Tom Sachs’ object-art piece ‘Lance’s Tequila Bike For Girls.’ It was a mixture of creativity, humor, and ingenuity that I loved. The bike was prominently displayed in the middle of the floor, so that you could walk around it on all sides and enjoy every little detail. Every time I walked by I seemed to notice something else.”

“Toys and games are preludes to serious ideas.” – Charles Eames

Herman Miller Select’s own write up of their spinning tops begins with the above quote. Eames was fond of games, as you’ll guess, as a method of relaxation and beginnings to creative work. These tops are inspired by Eames, if not purely in aesthetic then by thought. Beautifully formed from walnut, they are designed by KleinReid. The New York-based firm formed by James Klein and David Reid is best known for its porcelain, but also offers fine work in jewelry and prints. Herman Miller Select’s spinning tops are a rare opportunity to bring home some of KleinReid’s wonderfully crafted work and have a bit of fun at the same time.

We’re going to make a bold statement for next spring/summer – nautical will be back in fashion. We know, it’s an incredibly bold thing to say. But seeing as nautical (aka the trend that never dies) will be back again next year, the real question to ask is ‘how do we make it fresh?’ Hackett have found the answer – elbow patches. It’s so simple that we’re sure high street retailers are frantically scrambling to make knock offs pay homage to this piece. Like 99% of SS10 pieces, this will be available from January.

We’ve got a thing for fair isle knits at the moments, but good ones are hard to come by. There’s something about the pattern that makes it difficult to get right – companies either overdo it, underdo it or just make it plain ugly. So we were pleased to find that this Resistance pullover got it just right. It has enough colours to make you stand out amongst the grey and navy clad herd and, more importantly, the shawl collar is nice and thick; perfect for popping it up and using it as a makeshift scarf during a cold snap.
