Selectism - B.son Heather Slub Hoodie

This layered hoodie from B.son is made from slubby black and white cotton. It features “tall double collars, center zip inner layer, and off center zip and a snap closure outer layer.” Looks great and it is made in the USA. Fine it now at ssense.

Officine Panerai 42mm Radiomir in Rose Gold Watch

Selectism - Officine Panerai 42mm Radiomir in Rose Gold Watch

Now, some in the Selectism offices will argue that rose gold is about to be the breakout color of 2010 for wrist watches. While we do not tend to trend out so easily, Panerai’s addition of an 18kt Radiomir in their new 42mm casing must be a good sign. Look for it in January 2010. Nice call, David. (timezone)

COS Spring/Summer 2010

02 November 2009, 18.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - cos-spring-2010-01Now that COS is a success, the challenge is to continue creating desirable, minimal collections that still retained some fashion sensibilities. From the looks of the hooded pullover anorak (far left) and trousers with elasticated hem (centre), they’ve achieved just that. Other standout pieces include the previously featured duffle and blazer and a short sleeved cardigan. For the record, we’re still against short shorts.

Take a look at the rest of the collection after the leap.

Blackbird Seattle Opens The Field House

Selectism - Blackbird Seattle Opens The Field House

Seattle’s Blackbird add another set of doors to their growing ensemble of shops. This one is clearly tailored to the workers brigade of the heritage lifestyle. “The Field House is reminiscent of general stores that were once at the heart of rural towns across America. Its shelves are stocked with a wide variety of merchandise, including classic work wear, vintage goods, basic groceries and candies, flowers, and perfumes and candles. It captures the history, geography, and folklore of times past, when goods were less disposable and had more meaning, a time when people canned their own food and took a moment to converse with strangers. It is perhaps Blackbird’s most personal store…” Expect Filson, RRL, and many more brands to fill their shelves.

Fred Perry Tartan Scarf

selectism - fred-perry-tartan-scarf-01

Plaids here to stay now, so we might as well have some fun with it – and that means mixing them up. These Fred Perry tartan scarves would be a good place to start. Get one of these (go left if you wanna make a statement, right if you want it understated)  and wear with a check shirt for a nice clash. You could even wear it with a plaid shirt/plaid cardigan combo, although that might be a step too far. (Three Threads)

Take a leap to see another colourway and detailed shots.

The Ashmolean Museum

selectism - The Ashmolean Museum

One of my personal favorite museums lies just a short walk from the Ashmolean. The Pitt Rivers, housed in Oxford’s Natural History Museum, received a face lift not too long ago and its neighbor too has undergone renovation. Rick Mather Architects has transformed the “dusty old labyrinth” doubling the exhibition space and adding much needed lighting. A full review of the new Ashmolean has been posted on Wallpaper*.  Adding exhibition space, promoting increased access to collections, and improving visitor flow is nothing new in museum renovation, but the work of Mather is nonetheless quite important to the history of the institution.

Every Thing Design Book

selectism - every thing design book

The collections of Zurich’s Geltaltung Museum not surprisingly fill the pages of Every Thing Design Every Thing Design Book . The book, after all, does serve as a type of catalog for the museum, which was founded in 1875 and noted for its holdings of design work by Sottsass, El Lissitzky, and Bertoia. Dutch designer Ira Boom conceived of the “book as object” concept for the publication. Noted scholar Glenn Adamson provided the text, along with editor Christian Brandle. (via Daily Icon).

Available now from Amazon Every Thing Design Book .

Much of the collection can be viewed in the book. Bits and pieces after the jump.

Won Hundred ‘Sonic’ Denim Jacket

02 November 2009, 14.30 | Posted in Denim | No comments »

selectism - won-hundred-sonic-denim-jacketDespite the flood of hats, scarves and gloves into stores, the seasons are still in transition. Which means you can still get away with a piece like this denim jacket, provided you wear a warm jumper underneath. The thing we like about this jacket is the fact that it has four pockets instead of the usual two, meaning you’ll have somewhere to put your hands when you’re standing about trying to look cool. The (fake) fur collar and lining ain’t too bad either. And for those not well versed in Danish Kroner, the price adds up to around 160 Euros. (Won Hundred)

Margaret Howell MHL Corduroy Staff Jacket

02 November 2009, 11.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - mhl-cord-staff-jacket

While we’re still not 100% on corduroy suits – the 70’s vibe is a little hard for us to let go of – we can co-sign a cord jacket. This one, by Margaret Howell’s diffusion line MHL, is sharp enough to be worn as a blazer to a semi-formal function – note the breast pocket, perfect for getting your mad men on. We know it’s sartorial sacrilege recommending contrasting corduroys, but it’d go pretty well with some tan cord trousers. If you’re gonna go cord on cord, just remember to wear trainers – shoes can tip this into ‘biting your grandad’s style’ territory. (Margaret Howell)

Tokyo | PEdAL.E.D Bicycle Clothing

Selectism - Tokyo | PEdAL.E.D Cycling Clothing

Bicycle specific clothing is still rocking well in Tokyo. In Nakamugero you’ll find PEdAL.E.D, a Japan based label that offers what I would consider more casual biking attire. Though, technical, they take an urban approach to their gear that doesn’t try to do traditional menswear. Instead you’ll find wooly jackets, chino style pants, and variety of bags. No intimidation factor here. Just plain good wearing that’s designed for casual cycling first and foremost.

More looks at PEdAL.E.D after the click.
