Selectism - C.P. Company Chunky Knit Cardigan

It seems as though the C.P. Company family is starting to understand the benefits on marketing their products to the online consumer. Take this web exclusive Three Quarter Length Chunky Knit Cardigan, which is available now. It comes in a “dust grey” color and is knitted from geelong wool with a buttoned front fastening and fixed hood. The cardigan has 2 cut side pockets and features knitted detailing at the elbows which work. Though this is an online online product, do not expect a discounted rate. It’s selling for around 800$US – bang!

Gentlemen Of Bacongo: The African Dandies

Selectism - Gentlemen Of Bacongo: The African Dandies

Gentlemen of Bacongo Gentlemen Of Bacongo: The African Dandies is a new book by photographer, Daniele Tamagni, that “explores the phenomenon of the African sapeurs, a clique of extraordinarily dressed dandies from the Congo. In the midst of war and abject poverty, these men dress in tailored suits, silk ties, and immaculate footwear.” Amazon’s editoral review expands even further. “Designer brands of suits and accessories are of the utmost importance to Sapeurs – Pierre Cardin, Roberto Cavalli, Dior, Fendi, Gaultier, Gucci, Issey Miyake, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Yohji Yamamoto are their patron saints. Unlike some US hip-hop gangs who are dressed in similar fine threads, there is no bloodshed here here your clothes do all the fighting for you, otherwise you are not fit to be called a Sapeur.” (trendland)

Acne and Byredo “Lilla Nygatan 23″ Candle

Selectism - Acne and Byredo "Lilla Nygatan 23" Candle

ACNE celebrates their digs at Lilla Nygatan 23 in Stockholm with a signature candle. ”Inspired by the building’s heavy stone façade, its traditional hardwood floors and the vast and grandiose ballroom that is its crowning glory, ACNE’s Jonny Johansson in collaboration Ben Gorham and BYREDO PARFUMS wanted to create a fragrance that captured the house’s notable past. Together with renowned perfumer Olivia Giacobetti, the scent Lilla Nygatan 23 is the result, a fragrance that is reminiscent of the building’s distinguished history with traces of cold stone, warm woods and traditional incense.”

Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Crewneck Sweater

selectism - chloe-sevigny-oc-sweater-01

We’ve ragged on OC’s collabs before but we do give credit where it’s due – their Chloe Sevigny collab is pret-ee good. Pret-ee, pret-ee, good. Our favourite piece from the collection is this crewneck sweater with the fair isle pattern. It’s not gonna change the world but it’s handsome, stylish and wearable – more than you can say for 99.9% of celebrity collections. (Opening Ceremony)

Take a leap to see detailed images and alternative colourways – we’re quite partial to the pink one ourselves.

Cellulose Meeting Pods

selectism - Cellulose Meeting Pods

Frequently, new office furniture, particularly that geared for open space, puts emphasis on the potential of private conversational groupings. Designer Paul Coudamy moves beyond furnishings (strictly speaking) and has devised a four piece cardboard pod as instant meeting space. While the designers statement (all about meetings in “this” economy and open space and etc.) doesn’t ignite the imagination, the Pods themselves do. They are somewhat akin to a child’s fortress, but for adult work. Up to four people fit in the pods, they are lightweight and easily put together. (via Contemporist).

Some cellulose action shots after the jump.

Ralph Lauren Embroidered Striped Shirt

selectism - ralph-lauren-striped-shirt-01

These are the sort of pieces we love good ol’ Ralphie for. While we love the RRL, shawl collars and chambrays but we’ve always had a soft spot for pieces that have that little slice of subversion to them. The banker-esque striped shirt is a piece that’s making a welcome comeback for the stylish set (as opposed to guys who wear awful versions with bootcut denim). At this point, we’re happy to see anything that isn’t a check shirt. (My Wardrobe)

SNS Herning Naval Hat

23 November 2009, 14.30 | Posted in Accessories | 1 comment »

selectism - sns-herning-naval-hat

While we love a cable knit hat, there’s always room for alternatives. While we love naval-inspired pieces for a multitude of reasons, the main reason we like this hat is because it still has a turn up. In our ever so humble opinion, hats without turnups look condomesque – bordering dangerously on something someone who says ‘wassup bro’ would wear. Another plus for this piece is the outfit options available, we’d recommend mixing these with either contrasting stripe patterns or even check patterns, despite what the rules say about mixing stripes and checks. selectism - The Julliard School

Part of the redevelopment of New York’s Lincoln Center, the new building for the Juilliard School makes brilliant use of public spaces. Seats built into stairs, both in and out, highlighted (and only just) but the benches jutting out above. The architects on the project are Diller Scofido + Renfro, who had some practice with public space designing the Highline. All photographs here were taken by Iwan Baas. (via ArchDaily).

Apartamento Issue #4

selectism - apartamento-issue-4-01

We love it when one of our favourite stores stock our favourite items. High Snob columnists Azita have SL favourite, Apartamento, in stock now. We’ve said all we need to say about Apartamento – it’s one of the best yet (© Gangstarr) – it’s always nice to highlight that it’s available for purchase at an online outlet. Consider this pennance for all those Japanese product posts we do. (Azita)

Take a look at spreads from the issue after the leap.
