Two new models of th classic IWC Portuguese look to be on their way to market. As reported by Perpetuelle, a “red gold chronograph,” and a beautiful silver dial “automatic” should arrive soon. On the Automatic, they say, “This watch has a highly polished steel case with a silver dial and gold hand markers. Like other variations in this collection, its has a 42mm case, classical small seconds hand and seven-day power reserve display. This movement in this watch is IWC’s largest automatic movement on the market, the IWC Caliber 51011 calibre, with IWC’s exclusive Pellaton winding system, and 7 day power reserve.” Price is about $13,500. I’ll take two.

This $13,500 watch is powered by an ETA movement – a generic brand owned by Swatch, you know – those plastic watches – and supplies the movements of close to 90% of the watches on the market, from Cartier, Panerai, Baume Mercier.
Only Rolex watches are made completely in-house, by trained artists learning the craft through generations.
Sorry you paid so much for your shitty Panerai – it\\\’s basically an overpriced Swatch. Suckers.
Wow, looks sharp!
@Daniel:
You are ignorant.
a) These watches are IWC, not Panerai.
b) There are MANY MANY watch manufacturers who make their own movements “in house” by “trained artisans…blah blah blah” – Panerai, IWC and many many others. In fact many of them are of far higher quality than Rolex.
c) The ETA and Valjoux-based movements used by IWC and other high-end manfactuers are highly modified and decorated and with standars well beyond what manufactures of low-end mechanical watch makers.
Get your facts straight and you won’t sound so ignorant next time.
Thank you Tiger for setting Daniel straight. Anyone who craps on IWC and thinks Rolex is the high standard of watches, obviously doesn’t know anything about watches. He apparently doesn’t know anything about civility as well.
Daniel
This IWC model uses 100% in-house movement, so unlike the pilot watches (except the Big Pilot) and the Portuguese chronos which use the modified ETA movements. So get your facts right before making such statement.
This is an extremely well repected model in market. I would personally hard to think anyone not like it except the price tag.
Beautiful watch. Expensive, but worth every penny to owners that are fortunate enough to add something like this to their collection.
I agree with the above comments, I recentlyt acquired this IWC watch and it is fantastic. The quality and styling is superb.
