Selectism - Opening Ceremony Spring 2010 Looks

After previewing Opening Ceremony’s Spring 2010 collection through behind the scene photos we now have some full, at times fuzzed, looks at the men’s offering via our friends at The Fashionisto. “Opening Ceremony pulls out all the bells and whistles to present their upcoming spring 2010 collection. Calling on photographer David Benjamin Sherry and Michael Elmquist, we are given a lively first look at their range styled by Benjamin Sturgill. Here a whimsical mixing of textures and prints is met by another portion of garments that are made vulnerable by a muted color palette. From soft pocket tees and cuffed shorts to shoe-lace cinched waists, the boyish collection is not devoid of options.”

Selectism - Bythreads Journal and Shoulder Laptop Bags

Bythreads is another standout startup from the land of Denmark. Initially started as a design firm back in 2004, Bythreads has now grown into a product development outfit. The design duo “creates minimalist design laptop bags, with a clean conscience” which means that they put products on the market which they will stand by for better or worse. Luckily for us all, Bythreads collection of bags and sleeves offer great takes on laptop portability. We happen to be fond of the “Journal” and “Shoulder” cases in leather. Beautiful and classic.

selectism - Ellen von Unwert, Fraulein

Before turning to the camera, Ellen von Unwerth was a model. The background lends well to her chosen subject, beautiful women (being one herself) and Fraulein is testament to an unquestionable skill set.  15 years of work are collected in the book, some of the images previously unpublished, and feature a veritable who’s who of super models. Complementing the imagery is an essay from Ingred Sischy, Contributing Editor for Vanity Fair.

Forthcoming from Taschen. A selection of sexy shots (read page views) after the jump.

Selectism - Alden for Blackbird Christopherson's Creamery Milkman Boot

Quality New England boot work meets Seattle’s finest shop. “Designed by Blackbird in collaboration with Alden of New England, makers of custom boots since 1884. The Christopherson’s Creamery Milkman Boot was inspired by the shiny simple uniform boots that so many delivery drivers wore back in day when milk and groceries were delivered. Christopherson’s Creamery was a local Ballard dairy shop on Market Street, just around the corner from where Blackbird is today. We’re expecting to see this become your favorite boot – the one that you’ll wear with everything, doing anything for the next 20 to 50 years.”

selectism - Selectism Feature | A Weekend at Home

For the first of our new travel series, A Weekend at Home, Michael Williams shares his Cleveland.

The series is designed to celebrate the American City. In search of great places to eat, drink, play, and (of course) shop, we will draw upon some of our friends in the industry to guide us through their hometown haunts. Mr. Williams needs little introduction. He is the man behind A Continuous Lean, and a devout proponent of all things America.

Read Michael’s suggestions for Cleveland here.

Selectism - Galliano Diffusion Line Launching in Autumn 2010

WWD is reporting this morning that John Galliano plans to launch a “diffusion” line this coming Autumn. “Galliano is the diffusion label of John Galliano, the designer collection known for its theatricality and couturelike craft. The John Galliano line always includes distinctive and wearable outerwear, tailoring and underwear, but overall, it appears ripe for broader interpretation by the contemporary sportswear market.”

Selectism - Happy Socks for Barney's COOP Holiday Socks

Happy Socks is clearly one of the big breakout brands of the last few years. Their take on the traditional footwear staple placed against a very affordable price point has helped catapult the line in both sales and awareness. While Europe continues to embrace more colorway options in socks, the USA is starting to come around with the help of some big co-brands. For holiday 2009, Happy Socks has works with Barney’s COOP on a set of exclusive colors.  Happy Socks are happily displayed in a Globe-Trotter trunk above.

Lanvin Spring/Summer 2010 Mirror Cufflinks

selectism - lanvin-spring-2010-cufflinks

Ever thought of making your cufflinks from glass? No? Well Lanvin have and they’ve decided to share their creation with the world (for a price). Like the necklace we featured before, it sounds all wrong on paper – like a wooden tie. But the end results are surprisingly desirable. Like most Lanvin pieces, it’s sure to cost a pretty penny, so we’d start saving now.
