Canadian Sweater Company Zip Sweater

Who needs fancy names? That was clearly Canadian sweater companies line of thinking when they named themselves, erm, Canadian Sweater Company. While they win no points for originality, their sweaters are hand made heavy weight and, most importantly, look great. And, given all the hoo-ha about menswear this year, the last point is one that’s surprisingly overlooked. The zip detail is an opinion divider, but we can get with it on this one. (Oi Polloi)

Bblessing Camel Overcoat

There’s some pieces that are unavoidably smart. Sure, you can dress them down, but they’ll still be a smart piece. Overcoats are one such piece. So embrace the smartness and get a camel ‘joint’. This Bblessing overcoat is a great shade and a relative bargain for a piece that’s 30% cashmere (key word is relative – those expecting H&M prices should look elsewhere). Just don’t try and wear these with trainers. (Farfetch)

Publication Magazine

selectism - publication-magazine-01.jpg

Are magazines really dying? We know the evidence (falling circulation, publications dropping like flies, advertisers running for the hills) points one way, but the sheer amount of magazines popping up must make this a time of transition as opposed to the end of an era.

Another new magazine to add to ever growing list is Publication, a magazine billed as ‘a biannual periodical produced by street photographers for street photographers’. There’s several smart touches (like the P on the front cover) and a set of 22 prints to accompany the main magazine. (MagCulture)

Take the leap to see detailed images of the magazine.

Acton World Record Tote Bag

Selectism - Acton World Record Tote Bag

This is a tote for me. For the vinyl lover in your life, you may consider this vinyl record carryall from Acton. The tote is made to hold up to 40 records inside the proportionally correct canvas bag. Quadruple studded leather straps allow for easy handling and security carrying what will be a heavy load of vinyl. It’s made in Los Angeles where musical dreams are made and broken (usually broken). Available for 175$US. I’d use it.

01. Toothpick San Francisco Took 34 Years to Complete

“Scott Weaver always dreamed he would build the world’s largest toothpick model and 34 years ago he started working on it. Fast-forward to present day and he still hasn’t fulfilled his dream, but he did create one of the most impressive toothpick sculptures in the world.” (coudal>odditycentral)

02. The Ham Sandwich Theorem

“The ham sandwich theorem is also sometimes referred to as the “ham and cheese sandwich theorem”, again referring to the special case when n = 3 and the three objects are
1. a chunk of ham,
2. a slice of cheese, and
3. two slices of bread (treated as a single disconnected object).” (kottke)

03. Lou Reed Launches iPhone App That Has Nothing to Do With Lou Reed

“You know when you go to your grandparents’ house and they have one of those phones with really big number buttons and it’s sorta sad? Well, Lou Reed’s new iPhone app is the iPhone equivalent of a telephone with big numbers on it.” (p4k)

04. Videos To Get You In The Mood (For Chanukah) (above)

“Jews rejoyce. Orrin Hatch, the Republican Mormon senator from Utah, has written a Hanukkah song: ‘Eight Days of Hanukkah.’As Hatch told the New York Times, ‘Anything I can do for the Jewish people, I will do. Mormons believe the Jewish people are the chosen people, just like the Old Testament.” (brklynvgn>huffpost)

Mini To Debut “Moke” Off Road Vehicle

Selectism - Mini To Debut "Moke" Off Road Vehicle

Autoblog reports in with word on the latest off road concept vehicle from the Mini family. “America’s second-smallest brand plans to debut a new R60 Countryman-based soft-roader called the Mini Moke at the Detroit Auto Show next month. What’s more, if public reaction is favorable enough, the Moke could be in production by 2012… Like the original model from Morris, we’re told to expect an open top with a stripped-out interior, sort of like a less-rugged Jeep Wrangler. All-wheel drive will be included, and we’d expect the chassis to be jacked up a bit to enable a modicum of off-road ability. We’re not entirely sure how a vehicle based on the Countryman could recall the ethos of the original, but we look forward to finding out.”

Selectism - 3.1 Phillip Lim Suede Sneakers

A quick stroll through ODIN this past week in NYC allowed for us to catch a glimpse of the 3.1 Phillip Lim Suede Sneakers. They’re one of those products which works best in person. The photos can only show the details in one manner. The mid-top suede sneaker features a with side zipper opening that complements the look. A few weeks of wear will bring them the wear needed to look great.
