Jaeger LeCoultre’s “Yearbook” 2010

Selectism - Jaeger LeCoultre's "Yearbook" 2010

We love a nice annual to collect the designs and thoughts of a brand. We like them even more if they revolve the intricacies of watch making. Jaeger LeCoultre’s Yearbook for 2010 sucks you into that world.  ”An anthem to creation and creativity, to artistic effervescence and to technical innovations, the third edition of the Yearbook features Jaeger-LeCoultre’s brightest 2009 highlights. … An eagerly anticipated treat for collectors and connoisseurs of fine watchmaking, this publication is designed to be leafed through, read … like an invitation to enter the universe of a brand that is open to the world.”(timezone)

The Jazz Loft Project: Photographs and Tapes of W. Eugene Smith from 821 Sixth Avenue, 1957-1965

04 December 2009, 22.45 | Posted in Books & Magazines | No comments »

curated mag - The Jazz Loft Project

From 1957 to 1965 photographer W. Eugene Smith ran his apartment at 821 Sixth Avenue as something of a jazz salon (this following a nervous breakdown). With an open door policy, Smith entertained hoards of jazz musicians and artists. The resulting photographs and recordings form an important and engaging portrait of an era. Thanks to documentation Sam Stephenson, The Jazz Loft Project The Jazz Loft Project: Photographs and Tapes of W. Eugene Smith from 821 Sixth Avenue, 1957 1965 unearths the riches lefts behind by Smith and creates a rich cultural tableaux highlighting the genius of the bebop era.

Available from Knopf and Amazon The Jazz Loft Project: Photographs and Tapes of W. Eugene Smith from 821 Sixth Avenue, 1957 1965.

Silver Lining Eyewear

For those in the market for some new frames, SOHO’s Silver Lining shop delivers a limited run in-house line of eyewear that is hand made and assembled in Germany. Acetate is sourced from Italy – which gives the frames some durability.  The looks are standard and traditional with the advantage of some fine German production. A fine vintage shop on it’s own as well.

Selectism - Our Legacy Check Shirts

Two great check shirts from a fan favorite, Our Legacy over at Fever. “The rosen and teatergrillen checks in soft cotton flannel with one chest pocket” are great looks which provide a fairly fit cut for the gents. They’re classic patterns though the rosen is more towards the current lumberjack movement.

Selectism - adidas Jabulani Official 2010 World Cup Match Ball

The World Cup has been on our minds with the category draws just completed for South Africa. With the groups in place, we give you a preview of the World Cup’s official ball from adidas. The ‘JABULANI,’ which means ‘to celebrate’ in isiZulu, features a South African inspired design and radically new technology.  The new match ball will be available in stores starting December 4. The newly developed “Grip’n’Groove” ball technology provides an exceptionally stable flight and perfect grip under all conditions. With only eight, thermally bonded 3-D panels, which are spherically molded for the first time, the ball is perfectly round and more accurate than ever before.” We’re excited especially for the USA  vs England matches. Lanvin Spring/Summer 2010 Laptop Bag

04 December 2009, 18.30 | Posted in Accessories | No comments »

selectism - lanvin-spring-2010-laptop-bag

Here’s a super sneaky peek at Lanvin’s SS10 accessories collection. There’s an abundance of bags in this one (far more than last season) but we thought we’d tease you with just one look at this laptop bag. There’s been a growth in the amount of laptop bags lately as every designer seems to have realised the previous dearth in well made ones at the same time. Lanvin’s one doesn’t break new boundaries, but it’s well made and the material is suitably luxurious (washed lambskin since you ask). As always, it’ll be available from January.

Emiliano Godoy’s Flex Collection

04 December 2009, 16.30 | Posted in Design | No comments »

curated mag - Emiliano Godoy's Flex Collection

Designed for Mexico City-based Pirwi, the Flex Collection is built through the creation of a twisted plywood formed mesh. The pieces are delicate, yet structurally very strong. The resulting stool, bench, and coffee table maintain undulating lines and patterns that support seats and (in the case of the new coffee table) a glass top. The table is the gem, with slender recessed legs that magnify the overall light feel.

The Flex Collection comes from the mind of Emiliano Godoy. The bench and stool can be viewed after the jump. (via Contemporist and Curated).

selectism - silent-spring-2010-shoes-01

Here’s a look at Damir Doma’s SS10 diffusion line, Silent. It’s short and sweet, that’s for sure – only two colourways of one high top exist. But it doesn’t slack on quality, being made from supple leather and easing up on the over embellishment. Available from Oki-Ni soon.

Take that leap to see the other colourway and alternative shots.
