Iron Heart for Self Edge SEXIH07 Black Denim

Selectism - Iron Heart for Self Edge SEXIH07 Black Denim

It’s pretty clear we’re fans of the Iron Heart company. They produce some of the toughest denim on Earth as well as some of the heaviest. Self Edge gets themselves dirty with some new collaborative denim in black. Yes, it does come in at a whopping 21oz. “We’re very excited about the black version of this jean, the SEXIH07BK. This version of the SEXIH07 jean has been overdyed black with a fugitive pigment dye which is an unstable and un-permanent dye that fades to later show the indigo denim underneath. Essentially this is a denim that begins black and fades to indigo in high friction areas, or what the Japanese call the ‘atari’ fade. This particular model is what we feel the most original and exciting fabric we’ve ever put into a jean.” Available December 5th.

Passarella Death Squad Spring/Summer 2010

Selectism - Passarella Death Squad Spring/Summer 2010

Passarella Death Squad remove themselves from the confines of t-shirts as they begin a new chapter for Spring 2010. The lookbook itself maybe one of my favorites of the season with dark, highly contrasted images that place the looks very forward on paper. Cardigans, shirting, and leather jackets are the stand out pieces from the collection. “As with their tee’s which are made from a unique Japanese made fabric that is specially produced for PDS, all the garments are made in either Japan or the UK.”

Eastway Cycle Circuit Print

selectism - Eastway Cycle Circuit Print

Artist James Brown pays tribute to the now closed Eastway Cycle Circuit in a new print inspired by an image from a Czech matchbox circa 1963. The influence is somewhat meaningless, other than directing the aesthetic. What’s nice about the print is that it celebrates an old sporting venue, closed in order to make way for new ones – those which will support the 2012 Olympics.

The print struck me as I’ve just spent the month around the corner from Herne Hill Velodrome, the last remaining venue still in use from the 1948 Games. (via Retro to Go).

PRPS Spring/Summer 2010

selectism - prps-spring-2010-01

Next season is looking to be a good one for PRPS. Men are slowly, slowly warming to the idea of washed denim after years of raw dominance. And with seasons of pre-washed goodness behind them, PRPS is primed to take the mantle as the go-to brand for men who want someone else to break in their denim for them. Aside from that, they’ve also made some solid chinos – which are really winter weight trousers – lightweight leather jackets and some fetching shirts.

Take a look at the rest of the collection after the leap.

Selectism Q&A | David Hamilton

selectism - Selectism Q&A | David Hamilton

The campaign for Hamilton 1883 has brought to the attention of much of the blog world the fine shirts of Houston-based Hamilton. Clearly, in a period defined by a particular sense of American pride, Hamilton has a certain appeal. A home grown story, interesting for its location (Texas) and its fans (Barneys, for example).

Founded, as you might guess, in 1883, Hamilton is currently the charge of David and Kelly Hamilton, great-grandchildren of co-founder Bernard Hamilton. Together, the siblings have breathed new life into the shirt makers and done so with heavy reverence for the full story behind the Texan company.

Admittedly, the 1883 range piqued my interest in Hamilton. While the campaign was not my first point of discovery, it did prompt a few questions. David Hamilton was kind enough to answer a few of those. What follows is a brief Q&A about the beginnings of Hamilton and a few of the moments that have brought us to today.

B Store Spring/Summer 2010 Herman Brogues

selectism - b-store-spring-2010-preview-01

Trust B-Store to be packing the classic-influenced-forward-thinking heat. Their SS10 collection is full of goodies but we though we’d be teases and just put up this one at the moment. The ‘Herman’ brogue has plenty of detail pluses (the contrast stitching, white laces, etc etc) but our favourite feature of this shoe has to be the fetching shade of blue it comes in. Look out for more B Store SS10 previews later on this week.

selectism - alkr-iphone-case-01

Now you’ve got your iPhone (and most of you have) what do you use to protect it from scratches? Alkr have the answer with these colourful cases that do all the boring stuff (protecting your phone and all that blah blah) as well. And there’s even some calmer colour choices for those who can’t see the benefit of a yellow iPhone.

Take a gander at some up close shots and alternative colourways after the leap.

Stephen Crawford | Japan Bicycle Chic

selectism - bicycle-japan-01

While the current deluge of ‘street’ style (i.e editors and other assorted fashion peeps) can bore, there’s always space for something (slightly) different. Take Stephen Crawford for example. He’s currently living in Fukuoka city, Japan and he’s started taking pictures of cool people on bicycles. It’s a simple, ronseal-esque formula, but it works.

Take a look at some of his shots after the leap.

Selectism - Tata Nano: World’s Cheapest Car to Go Hybrid

01. Writtenby Rug by Maartje Santbergen (above)

“Maartje Santbergen reduces the trail by a slight degree by weaving the written word into a rug. She spins the paper into thread, which she then weaves. The tufts or threads can be unraveled if the user wants to discover more about the person who has died. Writtenby is a project developed for the Remember Me exhibition held by the Man and Well-Being students of Design Academy Eindhoven.” (mocoloco)

02. Hulkamania Tilt Shift  Video

“Hulk Hogan & Rick Flair duke it out at the Hulkamania tour in Melbourne, Australia this Saturday. This is an early edit released during the tour dates – to become a short film in the near future. Thanks to Hulk Hogan, Rick Flair and all involved for allowing me to shoot this event. Shot on Nikon D3 and D3s bodies.” (likecool)

03. Tata Nano: World’s Cheapest Car to Go Hybrid (above)

“The Tata Nano, a four-passenger city car developed and sold in India, has become famous for being the world’s cheapest car. At just $2,200 a pop, the Nano has also gained a reputation for its fuel efficiency (51.7 mpg). And while a compressed air version of the Nano has long been rumored to be in the works, Tata chairman Ratan Tata has just announced that a hybrid version could eventually hit the streets. If all goes according to plan, the ultra-cheap hybrid stands to shatter the economic barrier to getting greener vehicles on the roads.” (inhabitant)

04. Wooden Firemen Skittles by Berry Red

“No need for plastic this Christmas when there is such a great selection of wooden toys out there in webland. This classic Wooden Firemen Skittle set from Berry Red is a lovely self-contained toy that will appeal to a wide range of ages.” (retrotogo)
