selectism - Great Lakes Brewing Company Christmas Ale

One final brewed nod to Christmas from us here at Selectism.

Great Lakes Brewing Company was featured in the first of our A Weekend at Home series, a favorite of many Cleveland natives. Their Christmas Ale is a perennial Gold Medal recipient at the World Beer Championships (2008 apparently was a bit off, the remaining years ending this decade brought it home). It has an ABV of 7.5% and is spiced with cinnamon and ginger.

First Look | Surface To Air Spring/Summer 2010 Footwear

selectism - surface-to-air-spring-2010-01All you ‘on to the next one’ folks take note – next summer will be all about the moccasin. Boat shoes are cool and all, but last summer they shifted from fashion piece to festival wear, which means that folks who love the new will have to move on to something like these mocs pictured above.

Moc talk aside, S2A’s SS10 footwear collection is an electic collection, featuring everything from high tops to chelsea boots. But enough of our rambling, just take a leap to see the collection for yourself.

Mr. Hare ‘Sir Coxsone’ Shoes

selectism - mr-hare-sir-coxsone-shoe-01

Mr Hare’s SS10 collection has just dropped on pre-order on Oki-Ni and, as we’ve been saying since we first saw the collection, it’s a doozy. Our favourite from the bunch has to be these ‘Sir Coxsone’ shoes, which infuse that Mr Hare flair into the usually clumpy buck. These aren’t on sale for another month or so yet, which is just enough time to save up the pennies. You might even see these in our next seven days feature. (Oki-Ni)

As always, further images after the leap.

Freeman Transport Cycling Cap

selectism - Freeman Transport Cycling Cap

For their first few rounds of hats, Freeman Transport went with classic Americana – perfectly rendered wool baseball caps and a sturdy waxed canvas 5-panel. The latter is inspiration for their latest release, a cycling cap that merges a collection of core Freeman interests. Cycling is a given, it’s a cycling cap after all, and the (now) signature use of chambray lining to the light waxed canvas (available in navy or green) an indication of their sartorial inclinations. The caps are also produced in the USA, California to be exact, another hallmark of Freeman product.

Their artistic side? That’s incorporated too. You just have to head to the jump to find out how.

Nick Bronson Polka Dot Knitted Tie

selectism - nick-bronson-polka-dot-knitted-tie

Knowing where to cheat in menswear is probably the easiest way to keep your wardrobe in (and bank balance) in check. Like shoes, a knitted tie is one area where you can’t cheat at. Cheaper knitted ties have a sheen to them that makes them look, well, cheap. Avoid the oversheen  with this polka dotted number. And if polka dots and quality construction isn’t enough to get you going,  then the fact that it’s on sale might just sway you (down from £39 to £27). (My Wardrobe)

Selectism - Wind Turbine Transformed Into World’s Largest Revolving LED Christmas Star

01. Hidden Gadget Charging Station Could Save Marriages

“I have what I consider to be a modest number of gadgets lying around the house. The exact number is usually in flux, depending on what I’m reviewing for CrunchGear. Nonetheless, there’s almost always something sitting in my living room plugged into an outlet to charge. My lovely wife just barely tolerates this, and regularly asks if I need to have all these things lying about.” (cgear)

02. Frazer Parfum (above)

“An 18th century traditional method of perfumery the hand gathered organic beeswax is infused with natural perfume. Each 5g parfum solide is housed in a hand carved sustainable African Blackwood pincushion compact illustrated by Heather Moore of Cape Town. Both the perfume and the wood appreciate with age. The outer-packaging is a matchbox-inspired box. Convenient for travel.”(dieline)

03. Wind Turbine Transformed Into World’s Largest Revolving LED Christmas Star (above)

“What Christmas is complete without a giant spinning illuminated star? This one is the largest in the world and just happens to be made up of LED lights, allowing it to use the same amount of energy as a common hairdryer! The revolving LED superstar was designed and built by Siemens and is currently mesmerizing viewers in Munich. Check out our amazing pics of this brightly lit installation with 9,000 LED lights spinning away into the night.” (inhabitant)

04. From Brick To Magic Mouse: 25 Years Of Apple Mice

“Hard to believe that’s what a computer mouse used to look like on the inside. I still remember having to scrape the accumulated lint off that ball with an X-acto knife so I could smoothly work my 72-dpi Photoshop renderings. The photo is part of Flickr user raneko’s excellent ‘25 Years of Apple Mouse Evolution’ series, which ranges from the 1984 brick to the 2009 Magic Mouse.” (core77)
