Uniqlo Zip Parka

selectism - uniqlo-zip-parka

Now that Uniqlo’s SS10 collection has started dropping in stores, it’s time to take a look at a standout piece. This is a tough sell in January, as it’s the one month where it’s guaranteed you’ll never wear it, but it’s cheap enough (£40) to warrant an impulse buy. There’s also the very real possibility that it’ll be sold out by the time you actually need it – an annoying side effect of selling clothes months before anyone will actually use them. (Uniqlo)

Details | Dress like a new gent

23 December 2009, 14.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

We’re just gonna come out and say it: We miss Men.Style.com. Yeah, wasn’t perfect, but it was a great one stop shop for both GQ and Details. Now they’ve been separated we’ve ended up going to both sites less frequently and, in turn, that’s led to us discovering their new video a little late.

As you can guess from the title, the video’s about dressing like a gentleman and wearing a suit. While there’s some sage advice, we have to wonder whether they’re preaching to the converted; there’s no need to tell a man who reads Details that his shirt should be slim.

Megane Zine

We’ve been going a little mag-crazy here at SL and here’s another one. Megane (which means glasses in Japanese) focuses on building a transatlantic audience for up-and-coming Japanese artists. What caught our eye was the rather fetching design, which calls to mind a particularly well made children’s book. (via Star Graphics)

Take a look at images from the magazine after the leap.

Selectism - DIKT

01. Sunday Streets Return to San Francisco!

“San Francisco has just announced that it will be continuing its popular Sunday Streets program next year with new dates and locations for 2010! Running for the past two years, the event closes off a series of roads to vehicular traffic and and opens them to street parties, bike-riding, and uninhibited power-walking. Announced by Mayor Gavin Newsom and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, the new series of Sunday Streets will expand into new neighborhoods, have longer hours, and will stop traffic on a total of nine days in 2010 as the program settles into a pleasant permanency.” (inhabitant)

02. DIKT (above)

“DIKT is a CD compilation bringing together Swedish and FinlandSwedish poems from the 16 th century to the 20 th century. The CD box was designed by Clara Terne, produced by NU Agency and is published by Weyler Förlag.” (notcot)

03. Devices To Make Hot Drinks To Keep You Up, And Cold Drinks To Knock You Out

“One kitchen appliance that seems to have an undue amount of design attention lavished upon it is the espresso maker, particularly in Europe, signifying the cultural importance of the beverage. Just check out Casino’s industrial-chunky model and Krups’ Dulce Gusto from outer space:” (core77)

G-Star Begins Hunt for NYFW Runway Reporters

Selectism - G-Star Begins Hunt for NYFW Runway Reporters

It’s clear that media coverage of the global “fashion weeks” is no longer limited to the print and TV press outlets. The steady growth of online media properties as well as the interaction of social media networks into our daily lives has allowed for information to be disseminated at a pace and speed like no time before.  2009 was clearly the year for brands from all ends of the market to embrace “new media” and 2010 is shaping up to be even stronger.

G-Star Raw is taking this to heart with their  ”search for the best unsigned talent on the web to report live from New York Fashion Week. The world’s best Tweeters, Flickrs, Facebookers and YouTube film-makers will be recruited to file raw reports live from the most exciting fashion week in the world.” Through their site, nyfw-g-star.com, “reporters can put themselves forward for consideration and sign up with their social media account. The winners will be chosen by [the] public; the writer, photographer or film maker with the most votes wins…” The concept is an interesting one.

Herr von Eden Spring 2010

Selectism - Herr von Eden Spring 2010

The Fashionisto takes a look at German designer Herr von Eden’s forthcoming Spring 2010 collection. Here’s their thoughts on the collection. “Photographed by Manuel Pandalis, Viva’s John-Patrick Dine stars in the latest lookbook from German label Herrvon Eden. Working with their speciality, Herr von Eden takes suits and infuses them with youth and spunk. Sleek narrow cuts are dressed in peppy spring colors, while the typical dress shirt is switched out for tops of both a mesh and sheer nature. From their use of color to overall shape, Herr von Eden crafts a relevant look for today’s savvy man of style.”

More looks form the John-Patrick Dine for Herr von Eden Spring 2010 collection after the jump.

Selectism - Esquire UK's Five Favorite Chunky Knit Sweaters

Esquire UK’s blog digs into their closet for a look at five of their favorite “chunky knit sweaters for the Winter. They are indeed fine picks but I personally would have rather seen five true brands rather than doubling up on the Banana Republic offering. The Gantuk by GANT knit is a wonderful standout from the set.

Trickers Straight-Tip Boots

Selectism - Trickers Straight-Tip Boots

Enjoy these jolly good “straight tip” boots from the one and only Trickers. By my count, this may well be the last Tricker’s post of the year. They have had an incredible run on Selectism and we wish them the best for 2010. These high tops pull from a military angle in the black but the soft brown suede leather are more appropriate for the office bound of soldiers… urban style. (ships)
