The Rig Out Issue 2 | Out Now

selectism - The Rig Out Issue 2 | Out Now

After a fair bit of teasing, and some mouthwatering previews, The Rig Out Issue 2 is finally printed and ready to ship.

Oi Polloi has the first batch. The issue includes a New York favorite and a son of a famous Mancunian. In other words, it’s all about clobber and music, with a bit of Northern Soul. (Please note: no actual Norther Soul comes with the issue… the authors are just Northern people).

Artful preview shots follow.

Selectism - Rachel-Comey-Espadrille-01

We know. We know you’re either stomping through slush or skating on black ice on the way to work. We know you don’t wanna see espadrilles right now. But we’re gonna show you them anyway. They’re on sale ($149 from $298), summer will come in due time and you won’t regret buying these when the sun decides to show itself again. (Assembly)

Victory Brewing Company Old Horizontal

selectsim - Victory Brewing Company Old Horizontal

While Victory Brewing Company does not explicitly produce a holiday beer, their Old Horizontal seasonal has some of the usual Christmas trappings. With a high ABV (10.5%) and fruity finish, the brew is technically a barley wine (separating it in category from the other seasonals we’ve featured).

Known most for its Golden Monkey and Hop Devil varieties, Victory was founded in 1996 and has grown steadily ever since. Trained in Germany, the guys enjoy “the artistic freedom we have here in the US.”

You can visit them in Downingtown, PA, where Old Horizontal is currently on tap.

Michelberger Hotel

selectism - michelberger-hotel

Six years ago, a group of friends from diverse backgrounds came together with a romantic idea; to create a shared house where they could live together and friends and family would always be welcome and feel comfortable.

While that sounds like the plot of pisspoor indie film, it’s actually what happened with the Berlin based Michelberger hotel. Created by Thomas Michelberger and a group of friends, the group currently live in the 119 room hotel and each had a significant hand in the making of the building. And, all that aside, they also have a natty line in lampshades and a sizeable magazine collection. We couldn’t ask for more. (via indesignlive)

Chapman Weekend Bag

It’s taken a while, but it looks like men have finally gotten over their fears of wearing red. Right now it’s mostly worn in hat form, but it’s only a matter of time before it translates to other areas. As it’s our duty to show pieces you might not consider, we heartily recommend this Chapman weekend bag. Why? Because it’s red and it’s a nice bag. Obviously. (Farfetch)

Take a look at detailed images after the leap.

Selectism - Toshiba Escargot Vacuum

01. Toshiba Escargot Vacuum (above)

“Rather than design a clumsy vaccum that looks more like a spaceship, toshiba teamed up with electrolux to design the circular escargot vacuum. the design weighs only 2.1kg and can be rolled around or work with a shoulder strap. it has a cyclone vacuum inside with high suction and a plethora of attachments to clean every nook and cranny in the home. the escargot has a distinct circular shape that sets it apart from  the mainstream vacuums.”  (designboom)

02. Woods of Net / Tezuka Architects

“During this last few months we have presented you several works by the japanese office Tezuka Architects. The houses have very strong concepts, tied to different ways of inhabiting these projects designed specifically for each client. Now we present you Woods of Net, a permanent pavilion for japanese net artist Toshiko Horiuchi Macadam, in collaboration with structural engineers TIS & PARTNERS.” (archdaily)

03. Coffee Shop Disloyalty Card from Gwilym Davies (above)

“Genius idea out of England from Gwilym Davies, the 2009 World Barista Champion: the disloyalty card. In an attempt to promote East London’s emerging coffee shop scene, if you go and “drink coffee at 8 interesting, quality focused cafes,” then Gwilym Davies himself will make you a free cup of coffee.” (eatme)

04. Radiohead Head Back To Studio In January

“Radiohead will head back to the studio in January, Ed O’Brien confirms on Dead Air Space: Vibes are fantastic in the ‘most definitely different band’ with different music. The band said before they were going to record the follow-up to ‘In Rainbows’ this Winter. Technically, Winter officially starts tomorrow and Ed O’Brien posted on Dead Air” (atease)

Smith Denim by Epaulet

Selectism - Smith Denim by Epaulet

Brooklyn’s Epaulet begins entry into the denim game with three pairs of narrow fit jeans using denim from the famous Cone Mills of the United States and Japan’s Kurabo Mills. EP’s Smith Straight Leg Black will come in three flavors: indigo, black, and streaky. Some notes from the brand. “Each pair of EP’s is meticulously crafted in Los Angeles. While maintaining artisan manufacturing in the USA is one of our goals and mission statements, there’s a more practical reason for this: LA makes some of the best jeans in the world. The fit is consistent, the construction is top-notch, and the finishing is excellent. You’re going to spend the next few years wearing these jeans in. It’s our responsibility to ensure that they’re made tough enough to take it.”
