Wood Wodd Ejvin Jacket

21 January 2010, 16.30 | Posted in Fashion | 2 comments »

selectism - wood-wood-elvin-jacket

We’re all about the versatility here; it’s great to nail one style down, but even better if you can nail a few and truly create your own from the resulting mix. Which is why we’re such big fans of Wood Wood, who do a great job of bridging the gap between streetwear and classic menswear. This Ejvin jacket is a great example of this, with the traditional club collar with the casual ribbed cuffs. Like all good pieces, it can be smartened up or, erm, casualled down (not sure that phrase is catching on but we’ll keep trying) – and it’s got the added bonus of being on sale. (Azita)

Eat Out! Restaurant Design and Food Experiences

curated mag - Eat Out! Resturaunt Design and Food Experience

A nice companion piece to the Design Hotels book, Eat Out! applies the same principle (of cataloging design concepts) to the restaurant scene. The offerings do have some variety – there are ice cream shops mixed in with bars and fancy sit downs. Also tackled are menu concepts. In sum, Eat Out! delivers a full overview of current food trends, with a high design bent, in one tidy volume.

Forthcoming from Gestalten. Select page views follow.

CREEP Jacquard Sleeve Cardigan

selectism - Creep-jacquard-sleeve-cardigan-01

It’d take a special kind of cardi to drag us away from our chunky knitwear. Not that we hate slim cardigans or anything, now’s just not the right time for that. Having said that (word to curb), the sleeves on display here make a convincing argument. The preppy influence is starting to get a little weary, but when it’s done like this we can dig it [/shaft]. Style Salvage | Garbstore Interview

selectism - garbstore-interview

The fine folks at Style Salvage have a great interview with the man behind Garbstore, Ian Paley. Talking about everything from Paley’s favourite stores to his favourite fashion moments, the Garbstore owner also expands on the current heritage boom.

How has the menswear landscape changed over the years? What excites you about the future of menswear?
Ian Paley: Menswear is cyclical, I remember the last heritage boom, it will end and will end soon. I expect a swing to advanced technologies, this will really bring the big companies back in as it’s almost impossible for an emerging brand to adopt and afford the technologies that will be required to make the relevant product we expect to see in the next few years, We have had our independent swing, it will travel back the other way soon. Change is always good and by then I hope we are in a place where we can explore the more technical sides of our ideas.

“Italian eyewear brand Super presents their flat top model in two new leather colorways, after only introducing the new leather treatment a couple of months ago into their collection. Now the sunglasses also come in brown and light brown, once again both impressing us with the craftmanship involved. These will be coming out in the near future.” (highsnobiety)

02. AD Round Up: Stadiums Part II

“Designing a place for 50,000 people to enjoy a sports event may be quite a difficult task. In this second part of stadiums (check the first one here), we include a Winter Olympic Games, Asian Games and the biggest and most spectacular stadium ever built for an NFL team. Enjoy!” (archdaily)

Selectism - Jake Davis Videos for T Magazine

Give props to Jake Davis for these excellent videos shot during the (capsule) show in NYC for T Magazine. “The filmmaker Jake Davis — who, along with shooting music videos, commercials and short films, curates a pretty cool blog — captured some of the contributors and spectators who flocked to the two-day event. Their personal style, documented in the eight videos here, is a source of inspiration in itself.” Expect videos on Billy Reid, Mark McNairy, and other. Very well done.
