Wrangler “Red” Spring/Summer 2010 Campaign

Selectism - Wrangler "Red" Spring/Summer 2010 Campaign

Wrangler’s latest installment of their “We Are Animals” campaign for Spring/Summer 2010, may confuse some with its installation name. “‘Red,’ which is a dominant and unifying colour in the campaign, was chosen for its expression and symbolism: warmth, passion, love, strength, vivacity, energy, liberation – life. The boiling energy of the males and females in the frame collides with this vibrant crimson to create an image of the Wrangler brand…” The campaign developed by, Fred & Farid Paris, and by Jeff Burton, is a bold and may be dramatic for many but we present it for review.

New York’s J. Fold showed a varied line of bags and leather goods at their local (capsule). The above postermaster tote comes in charcoal, navy, and stone. The collection also includes lap top cases, courier bags, and a weekender called the Trooper Travel Bag.

In addition to bags, J. Fold continues to make the wallet that helped birth the brand, as well as card cases in several different material make ups.

Selectism - First Look | MARTIN Spring 2010

It is no secret that we’re into high quality cycling garments that work on and off the bicycle.  San Francisco’s own MARTIN Clothing fills the bill easily with their Spring 2010 collection. As we mentioned when we profiled their Autumn 2009 collection, MARTIN works with some of the best textiles available in producing a variety of gear including, windrunners, reversible vests, and base layers made from deadstock technical fabric used by the U.S. Navy. Here’s a short preview of what’s coming for Spring from MARTIN.

Jamieson’s Fair Isle Scarf

19 January 2010, 18.30 | Posted in Accessories | No comments »

selectism - jamiesons-fair-isle-scarf-01

We’re all about patterned accessories. Striped, plaid, Fair Isle – especially fair isle – you name it, we’re on it. So it’s no surprise that we’re featuring this Jamiesons Scarf. Patterned scarves (and fair isle patterns) rely on the colour combinations to lift it from the 80’s Christmas vibe – one wrong colour and you can look very ‘Wham!’ Not a good look. This scarf avoids those connotations, just leaving you to fend off accusations of being a hipster, but don’t listen to them, they’re just jealous. (Oi Polloi)

selectism - (capsule) | Cole Haan 1985 Collection Fall/Winter 2010

Cole Haan is showing the new pieces from its 1985 Collection at (capsule) New York.

Replicating the 1985 catalog, Cole Haan produces some classic footwear at an easily digestible price point. Probably safe to call it a retro line, rather than a heritage line, there’s a nice low key quality to the whole ordeal. Included is a charming saddle buck (pictured after the jump).

Prada Autumn/Winter 2010

19 January 2010, 16.30 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

selectism - prada-autumn-2010-01

Prada’s AW10 show was something of a revelation to the style focused bloggers – it had clothes they’d actually consider wearing. We’ll let Mr Tim Blanks take it from here.

A Prada show is never just about the clothes. There’s something happening on the walls, the floor, the soundtrack. It’s not always obvious what it is, but you can’t help but sense it’s there. Tonight, for the dual presentation of Prada’s fall looks for men and pre-fall for women, one wall piece listed ten key turning points in the last decade (9/11, the launch of Facebook, American Idol’s debut, and so on). There was a huge weird splodge of green resin on the floor, and a big circular bar (yellow) in the middle of the room. And DJ Frederic Sanchez, who has always provided the music for Prada’s shows, was mixing live, shading electro into rave into indie and back again, a quick-fire tumble of tracks that could easily have been the musical education of kids growing up in the English Midlands during the eighties and nineties.

Our Legacy Norwegian Hat

selectism - our-legacy-norwegian-hat

As much as we love looking forward, there’s nothing quite like a purchase that’s functional right now. And there isn’t much more functional than a good ol’ warm woolly hat. This Our Legacy one is still available from Tres Bien at a knock down price – an actual bargain as opposed to a relative – and it’s super warm. It’s also brain-constrictingly tight when you first wear it (speaking from personal experience) so remember to stretch it out before putting it on. (Tres Bien)

selectism - (capsule) | Tsovet SVT-NM85 Flat Black

Another item making its debut at (capsule) New York is Tsovet’s flat black make up SVT-NM85. The watch itself is inspired by the timepieces worn by the Russian Imperial Navy’s baltic fleet. 50mm case with fixed bezel and swiss movement (and some other nice features too).

For those interested, the model no. is NM331010-02.
