Lagom Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

Selectism - Lagom Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

Sweden’s Lagom explains the inspiration behind their Spring/Summer 2010 line with an almost unexpected ending. “The collection ,’The Blissfully Unaware,’ reflects a society where ancient traditions are increasingly dissolved into easily accessible fragments. The naïve and innocent expression of the clothes tell a story about a snapshot in time of a culture based around polo - assembled with the help of a five minute Google search.” We love the color palette in these first looks.

Selectism - Quoddy for Heritage Research Boots

Heritage Research revised the classic Quoddy Grizzly Boot with a “specially developed Vibram sole unit that mimics a moccasin sole. This is the first time that any Quoddy product has ever had a Vibram sole which is interesting.” Heritage Research have also spun in their ‘Lazy Arrow’ stitch which appears on many of their shirt pockets onto the toe. “The boot itself is made from Russet Bison and Peanut leather with a Chocolate deerskin bellows tongue.” Look for these in late April.

Selectism - Pringle of Scotland Autumn/Winter 2010 Preview

WWD brings us the first looks at the forthcoming Autumn/Winter 2010 collection from Pringle of Scotland. Ms. Conti gives us the details in the collection. “For fall, knitwear works double-time as outerwear in the form of weighty double-breasted peacoats, wool and cashmere bombers with kilt-inspired buckles, cozy sweater jackets with detachable nylon shells, and pullovers with hooks and zip fastenings. Knitwear even moonlights as tailored clothing,” Designer Claire Waight Keller also mentions the influence of artists’ Joseph Beuys and Charles Rennie Mackintosh which we’re happy to see.

Oki-Ni Interview | kolor’s Designer Junichi Abe

selectism - Oki-Ni Interview | Kolor Designer Junichi Abe

John Skelton of oki-ni speaks to kolor’s designer Junichi Abe.

John Skelton: I’ve been observing kolor closely for about 4/5 seasons now so I’m obviously delighted that we have now been given the opportunity to work with the collection for Spring 10. I just want to ask you a few questions, not only about the collection itself but about the feeling, the inspiration and the intended message that is in mind when designing the products that are kolor. Firstly, how long has kolor been in existence for?

Junichi Abe: Five years and six months.

JS: You have made a real name for yourself as a brand and a man within the industry as the master of fabrication. Could you tell us a little bit about your history within fabric/product and how you go about constructing these extremely intricate and specialist fabrics that you make the range from?

JA: My experience as a patternmaker helps me to shape new garments and to think about the construction of the garments. As for the fabric, I have learned almost everything through my work with fabric makers over the past 15 years or so.

Selectism - Wings + Horns Spring/Summer 2010

Blackbird showcases the Spring/Summer 2010 collection from Canada’s Wings + Horn. W+H is just about one of the best quality garment manufacturers in North America. From the sounds of it, the collection will be growing some. “With the recent release of a Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook, Wings + Horns is taking a slightly new tack and presenting the collection in two distinct sub-collections: Archive, the high quality basics and standards that Wings + Horns was built on, and Research, which will incorporate more statement-making and forward looking designs.”

selectism - Selectism Feature | Chris Milliman

We are very pleased to announce our feature on photographer Chris Milliman. His impressive work ties in one of our core loves – cycling – and captures the spirit of both sport and individual subject. Milliman also shares a few snaps from personal projects, including one from NYC’s famed Cage at West 4th Street.

For those in Boston, or traveling to New England in the next month, Milliman has just hung a solo show at Bloc 11 in Sommerville, MA.

We hope you enjoy his work as much as we do; the feature can be read here.

Video | Papermania Antique Paper Show

“In the center of Hartford, CT, the 57th annual Papermania antique paper roadshow took place. From stamps to posters, and photographs to wartime propaganda – it was all there. The most interesting part to me was not just what these people were selling, but more the people them selves. This is a quiet representation of what happened on my trip there. No words, just images of the people and the things they sell. Enjoy.”
