First Look | Skive Spring/Summer 2010

14 January 2010, 18.30 | Posted in Shoes | 1 comment »

selectism - skive-spring-2010-01

Here’s a sneak peek at Skive’s SS10 collection. Created by Joachim Sedelmeier and Mark Walker, who’ve worked on the likes of Calvin Klein and Paul Smith’s footwear, their SS10 collections sees them focus on boat shoes, updating them with D-ring buckles and an ever-so-fancy air vent system to keep your bare feet dry during the hot summer months. The collection is restricted to a couple of styles and we’ve decided to highlight the boat shoe and showcase it in all it’s glory.

Take a leap to see just what we’re talking about.

Kolor Cowhide Loafers

selectism - kolor-cowhide-shoes-01

We know now’s not the time for loafers, but look at these. Beatiful, eh? Oki-Ni have taken a few pieces from Kolor’s spring collection and these loafers are our pick of the bunch. The burgundy metallic detailing and white sole make these a class apart from the usual blue suede shoe (which have all over town lately). At £859, you’ll need a few spare coins to afford these. Some of our other money making suggestions include; robbing a bank, ask everyone you know for a pound. Failing that you could just wait for the sale – aka the fashionable man’s Russian roulette. (Oki-Ni)

Song remains the same, another look at these is after the leap.

Print Magazine 70th Anniversary Issue

selectism - print-magazine-covers-01

Before anyone gets confused, this post’s about a magazine called ‘Print’, not about print magazines as a whole – although the name could easily fool any skim readers out there. Like the tagline ‘print lives’ implies, it’s a celebration of print design in all its forms. The issue features iconic magazine covers, a side-by-side comparison with the recently deceased I.D, and ‘eight years that changed magazine design history’. (Design Related)

Take a look at the behind the scenes process after the leap.

Farfetch 121 | Arne & Carlos

selectism - arne-carlos-interview

Farfetch continue their 121 series, this time with knitwear specialists Arne & Carlos. Aside from the usual stuff (design process, influences, etc), the interview touches on the duo’s remote location.

Why did you choose to live and work in the Valdres Region of Norway? It is meant to be very beautiful, with a long history of folk arts and crafts…

Yes, we live and work on top of a mountain in the region of Valdres – and hardly have any neighbours. We can live in a remote area like this because of modern technology. We are far from any big city, but we are not isolated, thanks to internet, fax, telephone, Skype etc… These beautiful surroundings inspire us and enable us to work. We also travel extensively, but when we return to our environment we are always inspired to start work. This area of Norway is very traditional, especially when it comes to the arts – there is a strong history of knitting, weaving and felting. So it is very useful when we are researching old techniques, because there are always people around with this knowledge that are willing to teach us.

Selectism - Photos of Tom Rossau Making an ST 903 Lamp

01. Jay Reatard R.I.P.

“It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our good friend Jay Reatard. Jay died in his sleep last night. We will pass along information about funeral arrangements when they are made public.” (nyt)

02. Autechre Announce New Album

“For nearly two decades, the British abstract electronic duo Autechre have been cranking out convoluted beats and seasick basslines. On March 22 in the UK and March 23 in the U.S., they’ll release their new album, Oversteps, on longtime home Warp. The tracklist, as always, is full of spelling and punctuation decisions that no elementary school teacher would accept.” (p4k)

03. Rob Giampietro On The Typewriter As A Thing To Be Feared

“Shortly after buying his Remington Model 1 typewriter, Mark Twain dashed a letter off to his brother in 1874. In his note, he seems equal parts addled and satisfied with his new purchase…’I am trying get the hang of this new fangled writing machine, but am not making a shining success of it…’” (coudal>L&U)

04. Photos of Tom Rossau Making an ST 903 Lamp (above)

“Danish designer Tom Rossau has sent us some photos of him making one of his ST 903 lamps.
Tom works mainly with natural wood veneers to create his contemporary sculptural lamps.
All of his pieces are handbuilt in Denmark.” (contemporist)
