Burberry sends over looks from their Prorsum Autumn/Winter 2010 pre-collection, on the heels of their Milan presentation this weekend. Like many Japanese retailers, Journal Standard likes to have sku’s of their own. Take these versions of the Punto Pigro Moccasin Boot, for example. The camel and chocolate colorways look exclusive to the shop. That’s the thing about the Japanese buyers. They tend to pick or request special makeups that help elevate lines which may not have otherwise garnered such attention.

Patrick Stephan delivers their Spring/Summer 2010 collection for all to view. Stephan has worked under the likes of Galliano at Dior and others in Tokyo. The line is mixed with cuts that bounce between the oversized and fitted. Short shirts, and more are offered to the market. The looks below show the lankier side of Patrick Stephan’s wearability.

Given the amount of space dedicated on fashion sites to workwear, it seems appropriate to make note of a book detailing the life of a proper working man. Raymond Goodwin’s tale has bar brawls and heavy drinking. It’s also got keen insight on life in the declining Midwestern lumber industry.
From the publisher -
When Raymond Goodwin started work at a Michigan sawmill in 1979, the glory days of lumbering were long gone. But the industry still had a faded glow that, for a while, held him there. In SawdustedGoodwin wipes the dust off his memories of the rundown, nonunion mill where he toiled for twenty months as a two-time college dropout. Spare, evocative character sketches bring to life the personalities of his fellow millworkers—their raucous pranks, ribbing, complaints about wages and weather, macho posturing, failed romances, and fantasies of escape.
Goodwin left lumber and got a degree. He now works as manager of human resources at Central Michigan University. Sawdusted comes from University of Wisconsin Press.
As promised, here’s the second half of B-Store’s SS10 collection. You know the drill by now with B Store; classic styles, design twists – job done. While their boots continue that tradition, their trainers have gone down the minimal route – albeit minimal with some dandy sidesteps. The cut our mid-tops aren’t for everyone, but the confident among you should rock them with pride.
We don’t advocate cheating, but there’s times when it has to be done. We love the selvage denim journey as much as the next man. You know how the story goes; man wears stiff denim repeatedly for a year until it softens up and fits like a glove. The end. But what if you want to start this journey already halfway through?
Well, APC have the answers for that. The solid light blue hue is more natural than the overdone marking and faux-tearing we’re used to seeing on distressed denim and makes sure that they’ll continue to gain wear and tear naturally – rather than prejudging where you’d rip your jeans. There’s also the added bonus of it being on sale at £88. There’s only one size left, so get your trigger finger ready (and remember APC is vanity sized). [Tres Bien]
The fifth collection from Garbstore, “The East Empire Service Company,” draws inspiration from the working folks behind the British Empire. These include rail workers in India, waiters in Hong Kong, and more. Essentially, the line is an exploration of the civilian uniform.
To present the collection, Canadian Folk band “The Mighty Low” were photographed in their east London rehearsal space and illustrated by Ewen Brown. The illustrations will form the album book for their forthcoming record.

While the ‘Michael’ shoe might be Paraboots most popular model, their ‘Thames’ chukka boot is no slouch either. The main difference between this and other old school chukkas is the sleekness of the sole, which is cut incredibly close to the body of the shoe – therefore avoiding the clown factor associated with clunkier soles. The details fanatics will be glad to know that Paraboot are known for their French manufacturing and quality. At £225 it’s not cheap, but these are worth the coins. (Edwards)
Eye magazine turn us onto the books of photographer Kevin Garland. Garland focuses on the everyday objects that we forget about and already has books on pebbles, rickshas and tall windows. But the book that caught our eye was ‘A close look at fire hydrants’. As Eye magazine notes, “The pictures come from Garland’s travels, but they are selected not as travelogues, but as visual arguments”. (Eye magazine)
“According to GoUSABid, 18 cities have been chosen as the host cities should the US be awarded either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup. I’m sure this list is going to cause it’s fair share of questioning with people wondering why certain cities have been left out, and why others may have been included. Maybe the most obvious thing about this list is that Chicago is not a part of it.” (ogwinger)
“The Knife, in collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock, are to release the studio version of the opera ‘Tomorrow, In A Year’, on the 1st March 2010. Commissioned by Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma to write the music for their opera based on Charles Darwin and his book ‘On the Origin of the Species’, The Knife decided to make this a collaborative process, working with artists Mt. Sims and Planningtorock for the first time, to capture the huge width of the Darwin and evolution theme.”

04. Pringle of Scotland Spring/Summer 2010 campaign: a film by Ryan McGinley featuring Tilda Swinton
