Passarella Death Squad Spring/Summer 2010 T-Shirts

selectism - passarella-death-squad-spring-2010-tees-01

T-shirts are Passarella Death Squad’s bread and butter and here’s a preview of some of their new designs. Inspired by the 90’s dance scene, each tee is named after a specific track. Called ‘Anthem’, ‘Temperature Rising’ and ‘Can You Feel It’ respectively, the designs are classic Passarella. Look for these to drop at the usual suspects Oki-Ni, Loveless, Selfridges, End and Seven. We’re big fans of the shirts, but we’re a little disappointed that ‘Temperature Rising’ isn’t named after the Mobb Deep song.

Take a look at the other design after the leap.

Interview Magazine | Simon Spurr

selectism - simon-spurr-interview-magazine

Interview magazine have an interview up with menswear designer Simon Spurr. Spurr occupies an odd place in menswear; old school editors love him, but blog love has eluded him so far. We would say that it’s because most folks can’t afford his pieces, but that’s been no barrier to the love bestowed on other designers with similar price points. That aside, an interesting quote is when Spurr is asked about how he identifies with the American fashion industry.

“What’s great is that there are a lot of brands—like Thom [Browne], Michael [Bastian], and Rag & Bone—but they’re all doing their own thing. That’s what’s important: to remain true to your own DNA. Rag & Bone cornered the work-wear market. Thom has that whole short-pant thing, and whenever I see someone else do it, I’m always thinking, Why would they do Thom’s thing? It’s an impressive achievement. With Spurr, I like to think we’re a modern, European-influenced brand that does luxurious, handcrafted, and wearable pieces.”

Folk Finlay Suede Derby Shoes

We don’t usually buy full price pieces when sales are on (common sense sometimes gets in the way of fashion sense) but these shoes are worth a punt at any price. Reasons why we like these shoes are simple. Firstly they’re derbies and secondly, they’re in grey suede (or ‘smoke’ if you’re fancy). And, most importantly, they’d look great whether you’re smartening up or outside of Popeyes eating chicken and fries. (ASOS)

Take a gander at detailed images after the leap.

Selectism - 100 Years On Ice: What The Puck?

01. 100 Years On Ice: What The Puck? (above)

“As Northeastern University’s Matthews Arena, the oldest artificial-ice arena in the world, prepares to celebrate its centennial on April 16, we offer a salute to the oldest barns in men’s Division I college hockey (based on information provided by the 58 Division I programs)” (espn)

02. Hyperdub 2010 And Kode 9 The Knight Of The Living Bassheads

“What’s the best way you can imagine for a soundman to wrap up the first decade of the millenium and signal the future? Or rather, can you think of a better one than Kode 9’s? He released Hyperdub 5, easily one of the best compilations of the decade, with a series of beautiful accompanying 12″s (credit to be shared by the artists featured), and celebrated with the perfect birthday rave at Corsica studios last November. Now he’s letting loose Sonic Warfare, a masterful motherfucker of a book. Together they fuse charged aspects of the universe that precipitate into a terrifying, thrilling tomorrow.” (thequietus)

03. O House

“O house takes its name from its form in which a kitchen, dining room, furniture and bath area, encircle the main house. These spaces are produced by spanning rafters located between the retaining walls of the adjacent and main house. The o house space is somewhat like a passage garden.” (minimalissimo)

04. Harry Wakefield’s 2009 Design Top 5

“For me 2009 was the year that sustainable design and architecture became simply design and architecture. Sustainable materials and techniques are plentiful, so much so there is now very little that a designer and/or architect cannot create sustainably, given the opportunity to do so.” (mocolo)

Selectism - Raf Simons Leather Shoes for Spring/Summer 2010

Colette (hello!) drops two of the more heavy side shoes from the Raf Simon’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Available in classic black leather and/or leather in “snake motif,” the Raf shoes are complements to the apparel collection which features the “snake motif” touch as well. They look bulkier than most of the trends but follow stride with lace and buckled versions. No. They’re not Fluevogs.

The “Indigo Farm” collection from Topman Ltd. hit the online circuit but gets a proper instore engagement in March.  Topman Ltd. for Spring featurs “attention to detail and uses washes and finishes to give a sophisticated utility look. Indgio’s colour palette is predominantly made up of subtle blues and greys, highlighted with ochre and purples creating a distinctively Scandinavian influence.” Gordon Richardson, Topman’s design director mentions, “It’s exciting for us to be able to expand Topman Ltd so quickly and confidently based on the positive reaction to our initial trends.
