01. Vintage Ski Ads Pt.1

“I got my first couple days of skiing for the season in last week right after some nice snow up at Heavenly. Skiing always reminds me of being really young and going up with my parents, Sacramento is only an hour from the Sierras so we’d get up a few times a year. I loved all the design associated with ski equipment and I found that when I first started out in design I was always trying to emulate that style in my work.” (iso50)

02. R.I.P. Willie Mitchell

“Legendary Hi Records producer and musician passed away this morning after suffering a cardiac arrest a few weeks prior. It’s hard to imagine RZA’s career without this guy.” (cocaineblunts)

03. My Baby Rocks Me  With One Steady Roll (above)

Directed by: Joost Vandebrug Styling: Rose Forde Asst Styling: Camilla Hair: Yoshi using Bumble and Bumble Make up: Miho Hamaya using Chanel Models: Jethro Cave @ D1 Sophie Willing @ Storm Music: Flying Lotus. (contributinged)

04. Rare Breeds, Frozen in Time

“IT didn’t take long for Chip, a Tennessee fainting goat sporting a luxuriant Vandyke beard and an impressive pair of curlicue horns, to live up to his breed’s name. When Peter Borden, accompanied by a stranger, entered the immaculate stable that Chip calls home, the goat pressed his velvety nose through the bars of his stall, begging for a scratch. But at the visitor’s approach, Chip apparently had second thoughts. His left foreleg stiffened, his brown eyes went glassy and he began to list to one side.” (nyt)

Selectism - London Undercover "Classic Line" Umbrellas

Some classic takes on umbrellas from the London Undercover operation. “With the celebration of British Culture at the core, London Undercover brings to life what is generally seen as a boring, disposable, last-minute item. An obvious canvas for expression, the designs aim to encourage people to enjoy and take pride in what is, an indispensable, quintessentially British accessory.”

Selectism - Laduree Chez Tomorrowland Macaron Anc Chocolates

I got hungry checking out these gourmet chocolates on the Highsnob page. So much so, that I hope to find them in Paris at the end of the month. “In time for Valentine’s Day 2010 hyped French bakery and maker of the already iconic macaron sweets, Laduree, is opening its doors at Japanese retailer Tomorrowland. They will be offering custom packaging for their macaron anc chocolates. It looks like this will be a temoporary partnership for now. You can be sure that Tokyo is psyched about this addition.”

Baxter Of California Double Edge Safety Razor

Selectism - Baxter Of California Double Edge Safety Razor

Some guys need to have it cut close every time. While the modern dual, triple, and quad blade razor may do it for most, they simply do not work for all. Baxter of California, known for their line of men’s grooming products presents their Double Edge Safety Razor. The DE Blade razor is made in Germany and designed to you that extra close finish. “Presented with serious wet shavers in mind, the safety razor was first introduced in the late 18th century as an alternative (and ’safer’) to a cut throat blade. DE blades are commonly known as the blade your father or grandfather used to use – today, classic style wet shaving is making a resurgence, along with the durable goods category.” Look for it at the end of January through select retail outlets.

selectism - Go Faster: The Graphic Design of Racing Cars

Fast cars? Yes, please. Carefree anarchy? Yes, please. Graphic design? Sure, why not throw that in.

Sven Voelker’s new book, Go Faster Go Faster: The Graphic Design of Racing Cars, details the almost haphazard early history of race car graphics. Through over 100 examples, Go Faster shows exactly how graphics help to modulate the look of the car. One plus of Voelker’s layout is the juxtaposition of decorated and blank cars, giving easy focus to the eventual punch of the graphic.

Out soon from Gestalten. Select page views after the jump.

First Look | APC Spring/Summer 2010 Footwear

selectism - apc-spring-2010-footwear-01

APC continues their subtle refinement with their SS10 collection. Focusing on slimmed down versions of classic silhouettes, their shoes remain a great alternative for folks who like slight twists to the old school styling.

Suede is the de facto summer shoe material and there’s plenty of it here; it makes an appearance on their desert boots, bucks and oxfords. Elsewhere there’s the quintessentially summer white buck shoe – perfect for the dandies out there.

Take a look at the collection after the leap.
