Lou Dalton Tweed Jacket

We like a sale when the stock’s okay; we love a sale when the stocks great. Daniel Jenkins’ sale falls into the latter category. We’ve picked out this Lou Dalton jacket, but we could easily pick at least five other pieces that deserve equal billing. While you there you should have a browse – it’s 35% off all AW09 stock. And if you think anything’s too expensive, just compare it with those 2 grand moth-eaten Rodarte jumpers we featured yesterday. (Daniel Jenkins)

New York Times | JJJJound Winter Picks

selectism - jjjound-purist-picks

We’re big fans of Jjjjound – (as is Jay-Z, ‘On to the next one‘ is basically a video version of the site). There’s a new Purist column over at T Magazine’s blog and while the comments are the usual ‘men shouldn’t spend more than $2 on jeans’ affair, his picks are well chosen (Naked & Famous, Lora Piana and Fracap both make an appearance) and it’s well worth a look through. Read the full article here.

If You Could Collaborate

selectism - if-you-could-collaborate-01

As magazines edge into niche and prices continue creeping up, we’re seeing more one off magazines that are aimed purely at a unique form of promotion. One such magazine is ‘If You Could Collaborate’, a magazine made for the upcoming art exhibition of the same name. As you’d expect, it focuses on the collaborations in the exhibition posting in depth interviews, drafts and photos from the artists involved. There’s only 1,500 in stock, so anyone dying to get hands on this should get their trigger fingers ready. (It’s Nice That)

01. German Lady Mag Brigitte Unveils First Issue Since Banning Size Zero Model

“In October, German fashion magazine Brigitte announced it would ban super-skinny models from its pages, citing widespread reader outcry over images of “protruding bones.” Editor Andreas Lebert said it just felt wrong to keep Photoshopping flesh onto these girls, and so the magazine pledged to use real people in its fashion spreads going forward.” (thecut)

02. In a Hall of Glass, Performing for an Audience of Shoppers

“People passing by the new Apple Store at Broadway and 67th Street on Sunday evening noticed something unusual happening inside the spacious salesroom: a pianist playing a grand piano on a makeshift concert platform right next to the towering window wall.” (nyt)

03. Blue Volcano is a Solar Cloud-Topped Eco-Stadium for Zagreb, Croatia

“With a lightweight skin, recycled materials, solar power, and a somewhat crazy-lookin’ volcano-esque shape, this “cloud-covered” stadium in Zagreb has tons of eco-promise. Designed by Croatia-based njiric+ arhitekti, the Za(breg) Stadium is set to be a new landmark for the city center. Nicknamed the “Blue Volcano” by both the public and the press, the new stadium rises up from the city floor in a smooth arc to encapsulate the arena within.” (inhabitant)

04. Lemonade: A Short Film About Creative Unemployment (above)

“Finished just before the holidays, Lemonade is a short film about the optimistic side of creative unemployment, explored through interviews with “16 advertising professionals who lost their jobs and found their calling.” After being laid off, they used their free time to become documentary filmmakers, coffee roasters and even transgendered.” (core77)

Selectism - Openers Favorite Gucci Shoes

I have never been one to proclaim love for the more commercial friendly of luxury brands but when Japan’s Openers shoots phot of their favorite Gucci shoes from their Tokyo flagship, I have to pay attention. The photos – beautiful. The shoes – beautiful. While they may not be my first choice, I am sure there is an individual who will be compelled to hunt these down.

Our friends at Close Up and Private have delivered their Spring/Summer 2010 editorial. The site sits inside that ever growing cloud of online editorial sites which we are happy to see. Selectism - First Look | Lavenham Autumn/Winter 2010

Lavenham offers up a preview of their forthcoming Lavenham Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. “Lavenham is an English manufacturer of superior quality country clothing and horse rugs. The brand was founded in 1969 and made the first nylon quilted horse rug, closely followed by matching jackets and waistcoats for the rider. Today, people are still charmed by the brand for pretty much the same reasons as 40 years ago. Keeping with the commitment to in-house manufacturing, Lavenham oversees each stage of production in their Sudbury premises, from cutting, quilting to the final inspection of goods.” Find them at (capsule) Paris later in the month.
