I’m quite fond of this McQueen boot for the Winter. It’s another example of a classic look that will benefit from the destructive habits of nature. It comes primed for damage and will certainly look better the more it is worn. It is made in Italy.  Fwd has it for 690$US. (moclassics)

In what feels like the first real winter in years, desire for proper sled holds strong. To quench this yearning only one item will suffice – the Flexible Flyer. It’s a classic. It’s an American Icon. It goes really fucking fast.

The Flexible Flyer was invented by Samuel Leeds Allen. Allen, who mainly worked as a farming implements manufacture, wanted to keep his employees busy in winter. He was also aware of the excitement of sledding, born through his prep school experience. Putting the two together, Allen manufactured several failed rides before patenting the Flexible Flyer in 1889. Despite initial slowness to take root in the market, the sled grew in popularity during the first quarter of the 20th-century. This growth, in part, due to direct marketing with major department stores like R.H. Macy.

Today, exclusive use of the Flexible Flyer name is held by Paricon, a family owned company dating back to 1861.

The Flexible Flyer remains the gold standard of winter fun.

We missed this one before Christmas but it is worth mentioning. WWD reported back on Dec21 that “Vivienne Westwood is set to give denim a touch of her punky aesthetic. The designer has collaborated with Lee Jeans to launch a denim collection as part of her Anglomania label, called The Vivienne Westwood Anglomania and Lee collection. The debut collection for fall [2010/11] will launch to buyers next month.”

It will indeed be interesting to see what comes from this working. It is mentioned that the styles will include, “bondage jeans and skinny jeans for men. Washes will run from indigo denim to metallic gold- and copper-colored denim…” Hell, we’re up for anything. It’s a new decade of course.

APC have never been one to reinvent the wheel. Their new accessories collection continues that tradition, choosing small tweaks over grand statements. Bags are made in new materials instead of new shapes; preppy striped ties, lightweight scarves and belts galore.

We never thought we’d see a behind the scenes look at Maison Martin Margiela, but here it is.

The Elder Statesman, a new line from Greg Chiat, dresses up your typical stoner look. We have a love/hate affair with Japanese fashion. To be specific, we love the clothes, but hate how hard it is to get hold of the stuff. This New York Times pieces gets to grips with just why Japanese clothing is so hard to get hold of outside of the area and what’s being done about it.

While there are a few omissions in the piece – it ignores Visvims and Kolor’s recent showings in Paris and says that Uniqlo isn’t popular with the trendsetting pack – it’s an interesting article that’s well worth a look. Read it here.
