MISTER MORT at Sundance Day 2

27 January 2010, 18.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - MISTER MORT at Sundance Day 2

More lyrical delivery from MISTER MORT via the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

More slope-a-dopes, sloppy red ropes, and Mister Mort hopes, wishing upon a twinkling star, he’ll take Tom Arnold if not Roseanne Barr, fads of plaids, accessorized like billboard ads, top payers, all-in players, fanatics to nay sayers, scarves, hats and too many layers, from dusk till dawn, ranch hands to lil Jon, Mister Mort snaps pics ‘til the liquors gone, from no show’rs, movie goers to snow blowers, not a stone un-turned, until the image is burned, fedora, straight hair or premed, more Park City clips of wet whistling lips, party dips and the summation of introductory quips…so enough with the words and on with Mister Mort’s captured birds and the herds of Sundance film festival nerds…

More photos from the Sundance Film Festival by MISTER MORT after the click or check his first report.

Jews on Vinyl: And You Shall Know Us by the Trail of Our Vinyl

Jews on Vinyl

Jews on Vinyl, opening February 6, 2010, presents a unique take on identity in American history.

Co-curated by Roger Bennet and Josh Kun (who wrote And You Shall Know Us by the Trail of Our Vinyl: The Jewish Past as Told by the Records we have Loved and Lost) the exhibition exposes Jewish American life through images and sounds of American popular culture. The duo are also behind the blog trailofourvinyl.com and operate a non-profit record label dedicated to releasing forgot gems of Jewish popular music.

Jews on Vinyl will run through late Spring at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco.

More Jews on Vinyl after the jump.

Steven Alan for ACL & Co. Flap Pocket Oxford

selectism - Steven Alan for ACL & Co. Flap Pocket Oxford

The new Steven Alan for ACL & Co. Flap Pocket Oxford achieves a rare feat – at once the collaboration manages an oxford appropriate for Young Jeezy and a black shirt that is not sleazy.

Tyler Thoreson has written a smartly presented piece about the shirts, which provides the back story and shares Mr. Williams’ thoughts about the two pieces on offer (there is a white companion to the black). Well worth checking out over at The Moment.

Oliver Spencer Navy Suede Chukka Boot

selectism - oliver-spencer-suede-chukka-boot-01

Contrast soles are always the way forward for Spring/Summer collections but this one manages to stand out of the increasingly packed crowd. A testament to the speed of the internet, it was only a few weeks ago that people were salivating over the show preview and now it’s in stores already. We can’t say much about this shoe that hasn’t already been said so we’ll leave on this final thought; Aren’t they some handsome boots? (Oliver Spencer)

Song remains the same, take a leap to see detailed images of the boot.

Uniqlo Club Collar Broadcloth Shirt

selectism - uniqlo-club-collar-broadcloth-shirt

We’ve developed quite the hankering for a club collar over the last six months. While there’s been plenty of places to get your hands on one, we’ve always preferred buying our shirting from places like Uniqlo. It’s easy, simple and gives us more money to spend of knitwear. The fact that it’s a contrast collar only ramps it up in the desirablility stakes. While there’s three colours, the obvious favourite (for us at least)  is the blue colourway. (Uniqlo)

Take the leap to see the other two colourways.

Whyred Baseball Jacket

selectism - whyred-baseball-jacket

The big question with a piece like this is ‘how do I wear a blue this shade?’ Let us tell you how (note: this isn’t serious so don’t start taking notes). First; don’t be scared. It’s just a shade of blue that isn’t navy – it won’t hurt. Secondly, don’t be afraid of mixing blue on blue (not that same shade of blue though) just rock it like everyone did with their chambrays and denim last year. Seeing as you asked, our favourite colour combo would be indigo denim (or navy chinos) and a cream shawl collar cardigan topped off with some desert boots (no, we’re not off them yet, we’ll be rocking desert boots for a while to come yet). And, to top it all off, it’s on sale at £94 [down from £225]. (ASOS)

Selectism | Around the Web

Selectism - Exploration #5 - Listen In: Berlin

01. Christie’s Gucci Collector Website Launches

“Last fall we learned that Gucci collectors would soon have a new way to value and sell their objects. Christie’s and Gucci have partnered on a new website, Gucci Collector, where people can upload vintage items and get an appraisal. Christie’s and Gucci are both part of the luxury megagroup PPR. Christie’s provides, at no charge, auction estimates for vintage Gucci.” (luxist)

02. Exploration #5 – Listen In: Berlin (above)

“There are places you won’t find in a tourist’s guide. Underground bunkers and mysterious hilltop listening stations, built to intercept radio communications. Berlin’s abandoned relics from the days of espionage are everywhere, hidden in plain sight. We put our boots on and went exploring.” (palladium)

03. New Massive Attack – “Saturday Come Slow” (Feat. Damon Albarn)

“As reported time and again, Massive Attack’s forthcoming Heligoland features a monstrous cameo list with the occasional side dish of NSFW porn confessional. The track with Tunde is out there, and in step with Damon’s recently revealed Gorillaz jam comes this collab with the Bristol duo on “Saturday Come Slow.” It’s a Heligoland high water mark for Massive Attack’s restrained, pitch-perfect production and Damon’s weary, wrenching delivery.” (stereogum)

04. Roberto Rossellini’s  War Trilogy

“Roberto Rossellini is one of the most influential filmmakers of all time. And it was with his trilogy of films made during and after World War II—Rome Open City, Paisan, and Germany Year Zero—that he left his first transformative mark on cinema. With their stripped-down aesthetic, largely nonprofessional casts, and unorthodox approaches to storytelling, these intensely emotional works were international sensations and came to define the neorealist movement. Shot in battle-ravaged Italy and Germany, these three films are some of our most lasting, humane documents of devastated postwar Europe, containing universal images of both tragedy and hope.” (criterion)

Selectism - Chris & Tibor for Walter Van Beirendonck Bags Autumn 2010

About the only subdued press to come from the Walter Van Beirendonck Autumn/Winter 2010 show would be these very not so subtle bags from Chris & Tibor for the collection. The collaborative bags project the collection’s theme on some normal bag forms from C&T, but spin them into more niche items which only fans of  WVB will love.
