Selectism - Martyn Bal Autumn/Winter 2010

Hot on the heels of their Spring/Summer 2010 looks come the Autumn/Winter 2010 Paris presentation from Martyn Bal. The collection remains in the black white grey territory of the former but replaced the lightweight fabrics with heavier textiles for the cold season.

Selectism - Studio D’Artisan 30th Anniversary Denim

Studio D’Artisan drops a solid pair of selvedge denim for their 30th anniversary. “Everything about these Limited Edition jeans convey a simple message of sartorial eminence. Made from 17oz Japanese selvedge denim and dyed with Natural Indigo from the afore mentioned Okayama district, the Kase Zome dyeing technique is repeated up to 30 times on each of the 200 pairs produced to bring out the deep and dark colour.” 180 units of a special organic cotton sweat have also been produced, which is just as strong as the 17oz denim.

Selectism - (capsule) Paris | Uniforms for the Dedicated Autumn 2010

Two jackets from Uniforms for the Dedicated’s Autumn 2010 collection stood out during (capsule) Paris. The varsity jacket is finished with a blazer style fitting and leather details that make it one of my favorites of the show. The duffle on the right is just as strong with minimal detailed leather on the toggle rope and closure.

Selectism - (capsule) Paris | Bedouin Messenger and Tote Bags

We’ve previously covered the Bedouin line of bags, but we finally were able to make first person acquaintances with the products at (capsule) Paris. The bags are based on the general idea of the Bedouin tent. A rugged shelter for nomadic lifestyle, these tents protected from the elements with a utilitarian exterior and pampered the inhabitant with a luxurious interior. A variety of bags make up the collection but we’re fond of the Medina tote bag shown above. We’ll be seeing more from this line for some time to come.

Selectism | (capsule) Paris | Soulland Poncho for Autumn 2010

Demark’s Soulland previews this men’s poncho for Autumn 2010 during (capsule) Paris. We covered a good deal of the collection last week. Extending on that coverage we preview this poncho which sits perfectly in the collection’s theme of “The Walk.” “Soulland’s sixth full collection mixes the colors of scandinavian culture with some good ol’ workwear for a look that aims to give traditional workwear a contemporary jolt.”

selectism - Starstruck

Ira M. Resnick knows a bit about film. He is founder of Motion Picture Arts Gallery, a space dedicated to the art of the movies, and a trustee of the Film Society of Lincoln Center. This background makes him well suited to author Starstruck: Vintage Movie Posters from Classic Hollywood.

Releasing in mid-February from Abbeville Press, Starstruck guides readers through highlights of Resnick’s impressive personal collection. The posters date from 1912 to 1962 – representative of the “Golden Era” – and provide an overview of the film advertising industry.

Marin Scorsese provides the forward.

(capsule) Paris | Ally Capellino Autumn/Winter 2010 Rucksack

selectism - ally-capellino-autumn-2010-rucksack

Here’s (yet another) short preview of Ally Capellino’s AW10 range. We don’t want to blow up the whole range yet – but be assured that it’s as ridiculously good as always. We love a bit of rugged material, so the tweed body on this rucksack was always gonna catch our eye. Aside from this there was also some interesting and unexpected collaborations in the works (look out for more on that soon) as well as the usual Capellino goodness. Don’t be surprised if you see one of the team rocking this around town come next august.

Paris | B Store Autumn/Winter 2010 Footwear Preview

selectism - b-store-autumn-2010-01

Here’s a super sneaky peek at B Store’s AW10 footwear collection. From the small preview (gotta leave something to the imagination) it looks like they’ve fallen in love with the crepe sole. While the phrase ‘classic with a twist’ entered the realms of cliche months ago, it’s so apt for B Store that we can’t help using it. They continue to make worthwhile twists to classic styles, doing more than just adding a detail for detail’s sake – something more than a few big lines are guilty of.

You know the drill, take a leap to see the preview.
