Aertex Spring/Summer 2010 Shirts

selectism - aertex-shirts-spring-2010-01

Aertex are a brand that always looked like they were on the brink of ‘getting it’. But, without fail, their collection would fall short in some regard (quality, aesthetics, cost). This time they’ve got it right. While the whole collection isn’t blog worthy yet – word on the streets is that their knitwear is still subpar – these shirts deserve the once over. They’ve also got the added bonus of being shot by Antony Crook, whose name you might recognise from the Rig Out.

Take a look at more shots after the leap.

Street Etiquette ‘Sewn From The Soul’

selectism - street-etiquette-sewn-soul-01

We’re a day late and a dollar short on this one, but we had to post up some images from Street Etiquette’s ‘Sewn from the soul’ editorial. Created to commemorate Black History Month, the feature sees the SE dudes and their extended family pay homage to several key black figures including Huey P. Newton, Miles Davis and Nat King Cole amongst others. We’ve gotta say that they did a great job and the shots look great.

See the full feature here.

Take a leap to see images and video from the editorial.

Selectism - Details "10th" Anniversary

01. RIP Ikea Fira

“Sadly, as of this month Ikea has discontinued the Fira, a handy little set of wooden box drawers that everyone loved customizing. I’ve got four of them myself, and while they were a pain to assemble–you’ll got to nail each individual box together with nails that appear to have been made by nanotechnology–it is an infinitely useful sorting device.” (core77)

02. Sneak Peek: “Kucica” Croatian Cottage

“‘kucica’ in croatian means ’small house.’ this quaint cottage belongs to iva and vanja and is located in zagorje, croatia (15 miles from the capital of zagreb). the area is known for its preserved idyllic nature, rivers, old castles, and as the excavation site of a 100,000 year old neanderthal man (trivia!). the cottage itself is a traditional wooden cottage which is about 100 years old, but was moved to this location around 20-30 years ago. it was love at first sight when iva and vanja first discovered the cottage” (designsponge)

03. Details “10th” Anniversary (above)

“This month, Details celebrates their “10th” Anniversary. Why the quotes? We’ll its the 10th anniversary of their relaunch. The title actually dates back 28 years.  According to Wikipedia, Condé Nast bought the magazine in 1987 from Alan Patricof for $2 million. The magazine was relaunched in the fall of 2000 when Condé Nast transferred the publication to its sibling division Fairchild Publications.” (spd)

04. Futuristic Urban Farm Comes With its Own TV Station

“We’ve seen urban farms before, but here’s one that takes city gardening to a whole ‘nother level. One UK architecture student created plans for a center that’s part vertical farm, part TV station. The Urban Farming and Media Interactive Networks (Urban F.@.m.i.n.), is a plan for an indoor farm that promotes its sustainability efforts through an on-site television program. Though the design is just a concept for now, actually implementing a similar center into existing cities could revolutionize food production and education.” (inhabitant)

Robert Geller Autumn/Winter 2010

Selectism - Robert Geller Autumn/Winter 2010

Robert Geller’s Autumn/Winter 2010 walked the runway this week. “Robert Geller’s Autumn/Winter collection is a tribute to the beauty of mixing wardrobe elements that don’t always seem to fit.  It celebrates the freedom of blending uptown sophistication with downtown effortlessness, such as accessorizing a worn leather jacket with a luxurious fur scarf.  The collection’s smoky lilacs, charcoals and hunter greens evoke a palette of royal colors dusted over by time while tweeds, stripes and polka dots add visual texture to the clothes.  Overall the collection speaks to the type of man who marries a modern beatnik cool with the classical luxury of an earlier era.”

The Bergkamp Double Tote Bag

Selectism - The Bergkamp Double Tote Bag

This doble tote bag from Wong Wong is an interesting idea. It fuses two tote bags by stitching the bottoms and adding a snal closure to the tops. This allows for the totes to be opens on their long side to accommodate everything from a yoga matte as shown above to some firewood. The interior also includes a nice leather zip up pouch, but the price tag seem a bit high for what you get. 125$US may set some back from rolling with this creative take on totes.

Selectism - Left Field Autumn 2010 Looks

We fell in love with the Left Field line after seeing this pair of duck canvas pants at (capsule) last Summer. They continue with their excellent exploration of the everyman this Autumn 2010. The lookbook is filled with a certain ruggedness which really stands out when you place your hands on the garments. Look for their Autumn collection to drop right around the end of Summer.

Dunhill’s Pop-Up in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District

Selectism - Dunhill's Pop-Up in Manhattan's Meatpacking District

Style Salvage took a stroll through Dunhill’s temp. pop-up in NYC’s Meatpacking District. “The spirit of Dunhill’s flagship space, Bourdon House has been transported to the heart of New York. Laser-cut, powder-coated aluminium panels suspended over a black rubber floor combined with a life sized projection of the Bourdon House exterior and its Mayfair surroundings create an abstract spirit of the brands heart and soul, an ethereal version for people to experience… For those of you unfamiliar with Bourdon House, it is the ultimate in masculine luxury and retail lifestyle. Formerly the London residence of the Duke of Westminster, it reflects Alfred’s own legacy as a curator of the very finest, offering not only superlative product but the ultimate in services and experience too.” Check those boots above.

M Tokyo Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

Selectism - M Tokyo Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

Check out these Spring 2010 looks from one of the lines we have our eyes on for 2010, Tokyo’s M. “Designed in Japan by keen mountaineer Mitsuo, very little is known about this label. Available in just a handful of select retailers worldwide, ‘M’ is manufactured using traditional techniques in a small workshop in Japan. Natural dyed cotton is washed in the rivers by the workshop and dried under the sun on the riverbeds before being put into production; this ancient Japanese tradition is used by very few designers today. As well as their beautiful design and construction, garments have an element of purpose to them; the SS10 collection feels just right for a trek in the foothills but equally appropriate for the city too, with integrated backpacks on shirts, heavy cotton shorts and jackets forming the core of the collection.” (coggles)

Through the Details | Louis Vuitton Autumn/Winter 2010

Selectism - Through the Details | Louis Vuitton Autumn/Winter 2010

Rather than the usual runway looks, we found it more interesting to take advantage of these detailed views of the Louis Vuitton Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. The focus is on the details, the accessories, and the footwear. “Vienna’s Wiener Werkstätte in the early 20th century attracted a community of artists including Franz Kafka and Egon Schiele with their own creative way of mixing business and leisure style. For Louis Vuitton’s Fall-Winter 2010-2011 collection, Men’s Studio Director Paul Helbers, under the Artistic Direction of Marc Jacobs, is inspired by this ‘Bleisure’ lifestyle, a mix of formality and comfort inspired by Vienna’s ‘artist wardrobe.’”
