Selectism - Christian Louboutin Freddy Flats for Spring 2010

Our brother at Highsnobiety tend to take risks in their coverage of street fashion. You’ll note many items listed here making it over onto those pages and visa versa. But other times, they surprise us. Take this afternoon for instance when we noted these  Christian Louboutin Freddy Flats for Spring 2010 on Kayne’s blog who happen to get the look from ’snob. They’re extreme but attractive in a way which I cannot really put to a finger on, but I find these remain classy in some manner of the term.

Selectism - They Measure Weather

01. Black Man’s Cry: The Inspiration Of Fela Kuti

Black Man’s Cry: The Inspiration of Fela Kuti, 4x 10-inch box set and single CD on Now-Again. Available now exclusively at stonesthrow.com, and released worldwide Feb. 23″ (stonesthrow)

02. Small Bicycle Distributor Sues Club Monaco For Unfair Business Practices

“The complaint alleges that Club Monaco, a subsidiary of Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, used images of A Black Bike’s bicycles as the centerpiece of its Spring 2009 advertising campaign, without A Black Bike’s authorization, and while publicly representing that the images were instead bicycles manufactured by the Dutch bicycle company Koninklijke Gazelle.” (prweb)

03. TOGETHER Festival Finishes off this Weekend.

“Together: The New England Electronic Music Festival is that rarest of opportunities. For many people, dance music and its continuing surge in popular culture provides a chance to collaborate and communicate as never before: thoughts are remixed, songs are made in cooperation and entire events are promoted collectively.” (together)

04. The Olympics and the City

“On Friday February 12 the 2010 Winter Olympics begin in Vancouver. Like all host cities, Vancouver had to plan for a sprint and a marathon — it had to develop, finance, design and build a range of sport and residential venues that would not only make the two-week event a big success but also, when the world had gone back home, become a vital and enduring part of the city fabric. Vancouver planning director Brent Toderian spoke recently with journalist Nate Berg, of Planetizen, about how the city, known for progressive planning and green thinking, was meeting the Olympic challenge.” (designobserver)

05. They Measure Weather (above)

“The only hard-to-reach weather station “Aigba” on the territory of Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana located 2225m above sea level. No internet connection, no landline. All data are noted in a table and dictated on the cellphone. They do not drink, watch TV for many hours, cook food and feel detachment from the world. Their salary is ridiculous – 6000 rubles – about 200 US dollars, they are here to be free… On the photos the guys are at work.” (englishrussia)

Selectism - Common Projects for Evisu Sneakers

Evisu’s new CEO, Scott Morrison’s, is off to an interesting start with coop products. Evisu’s forthcoming sneaker collection with Common Projects, looks like it will work for a few reasons; the primary being that the shoes stay true to Common Project’s simplicity in design. “Following both brands’ common ethos of quality and classic design, the line will consist two styles of leather, vulcanized sneakers, branded as a limited collaboration using Common Projects’ trademark foil heel stamp.” They’ll be delivering in Autumn 2010.

Selectism - GQ Names Billy Reid 2010 Best New Menswear Designer In America

Congrats to Billy Reid. GQ announced to today that he was awarded “2010 Best New Menswear Designer In America.” “William ‘Billy’ Reid grew up Amite, Louisiana, just south of the Mississippi line. In 2004, he launched Billy Reid, a collection with roots in the designer’s Southern past. Today, Billy works out of his flagship shop and studio in Florence, AL. The store is furnished with Reid family heirlooms, and serves as a lodestar for his other boutiques. Additional Billy Reid shop locations include New York City, Nashville, Charleston, Charlotte, Dallas, and Houston.” As the winner he’s taking home some money, some shop placement, and (and maybe the most important) placement on GQ’s September 2010 cover.

Selectism - eVolo Magazine #2 on Skyscrapers

Archdaily reviews issue #2 of eVolvo Magazine, which is available on newsstand now. “The latest issue of eVolo Magazine is focused on tall buildings. As with the previous issue, the magazine is divided in two parts. The first includes news and opinion, featuring projects such as MahaNakhon by Ole Scheeren + OMA, the Phare Tower by Morphosis or the Miyi Tower by Studio SHIFT + SWA Group. What I really liked on this section is an article titled “Pixelated tectonics: Unitized Aggregation Techniques and Formal Organizations” by Elie Gamburg, on which he analyzes the Sky Village by MVRDV and the Le Project Triangle by Herzog & de Meuron…”
