Lee 101 “50 Mile Raceway” Denim for Spring 2010

11 February 2010, 23.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - Lee 101 "50 Mile Raceway" Denim for Spring 2010

The Lee 101 line delivers a rack full of denim options for Spring. “Inspired by the growing popularity of car racing in the 1950s and James Dean’s own passion for the motor racing culture, Lee re-examines racetrack style, and finds a base for modern-day cool. The 101 range is Lee’s gold standard: a perfect symbiosis of style and quality in denim jeans. The icon is the 101Z. Created in 1925, Lee’s slim-fitting, zip-fly jean came of age in the 1950s, an exciting and creative decade for the Lee brand, as denim transformed into a symbol of rebellion and self-expression.”

Gaspard Yurkievich Autumn/Winter 2010

Selectism - Gaspard Yurkievich Autumn/Winter 2010

Our friends at Fashionisto give their take on Gaspard Yurkievich’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. “Gaspard Yurkievich’s man is confidently on the move as the designer makes haste to deconstruct the suit. Scrapping tradition, Yurkievich reassembles his own suit, applying different colorways and embellishments to fashion his modern creation. Maintaining relatively normal upper proportions, Yurkievich approaches trousers with two dominant pleats, a controlled, but relaxed fit and a timeless grace. Altogether, the fall collection turns suiting inside out, only to come out with a uniform look that within modern context makes perfect sense.”

Selectism - TUMI Luggage & Accessories for Opening Ceremony

It would seem that there is no stopping the Opening Ceremony co-brand machine. Their latest is a color heavy luggage and travel accessory collection with non other than TUMI. Here’s what they have to say on the collection. “Tumi luggage [is a] perfect complement to our growing Ace shop assortment. When we began thinking about our partnership with Tumi, Carol [their CEO] envisioned her favorite, trusty Tumi bag in a rainbow of colors.  Luckily, Tumi was down to let us customize some of their reliable travel bags for our new shop.  Check out the final product, three candy-colored, color-blocked travel bags in two colorways… the International Expandable Carry-On, T-Pass laptop case, and the Soft Satchel.” The collection is limited to 100 units of each piece.

selectism - Umbro England Away | Kasabian at Paris Olympia

First, let us congratulate the five lucky winners of our Umbro England Away jersey contest. They will be among the fist to own the new shirt, designed by Aitor Throup.

On Monday, Umbro officially launched the shirt devising a subtle twist on the England away theme. Rather than kit out the squad, they dressed Tom Meighan of Kasabian. An English band playing at Paris Olympia, a novel approach to the theme of performing on foreign soil.

A new dedicated site has been launched by Umbro. It does not include rude comment about John Terry.

Opening Ceremony for Pendleton Velcro Waist Trousers

selectism - opening-ceremony-pendleton-trousers-01

As the old saying goes, ‘ask and ye shall receive’. We’ve been waiting on someone to make some trousers with some contrast cuffing – ones that we can actually buy and fit into – for a while now and now Opening Ceremony have stepped up to the plate. We have to say that it’s a very clever use of pendleton fabric; it’s one thing to slim down a bunch of pendleton shirts, quite another to use it in a truly interesting manner. Now we wait for plaid cuffed denim. (Opening Ceremony)

Selectism - Alexander McQueen 1969-2010

Fashion designer, Alexander McQueen, died in his London home at the age of 40.

His company, Alexander McQueen, issued a statement saying: “On behalf of Lee McQueen’s family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee’s family.” (img credit)

Wouter Baartmans for Grenson Brogues

selectism - wouter-grensons-brogues

Forgive us if we’re not as jaunty as usual, the news about Alexander McQueen has shocked us. Compared to issues of life and death, any haranguing about shoes and clothes look trivial. Style Salvage turns us onto Wouter Baartmans collection and, in particular, these shoes. No word on when and if they’ll be available so for now, you’ll just have to admire them. And when you’ve finished doing that, take a look at Style Salvage’s interview with the London College of Fashion MA student, which is a great read.

A personal favorite, McSweeney’s celebrates its 11th (or 12th) anniversary with the publication of Art of McSweeney’s Art of McSweeneys . The book covers the art and design from across the company’s activities. This includes The Believer and Wholphin. Interviews with collaborators give context to the art. A must for any McSweeney’s fan.

Barbour Waxed Cotton Hooded Jacket

selectism - barbour-hooded-wax-jacket-01

It’s our window and we can’t stand the rain (or snow, depending on where you are). While wool duffles are all well and good for warmth, they have their downsides. Firstly all snow tends to settle on the jacket, leaving you looking like you have a massive bout of dandruff and when the snow melts, it tends to leave everything a little soggy – not a good look (or smell). That’s why we stick with the waxed cotton in truly adverse conditions – and whaddya know? this Barbour jacket is made from waxed cotton. And it’s got a hood – great for protecting your expensive wooly hat in a downpour. (Farfetch)
