“Hot on the (w)heels of the Ford Transit Electric, the Transit Connect Taxi drove onto the stage at the Chicago Auto Show today running on compressed natural gas (CNG). The clean-burning utility van – based on the gasoline-powered North American Truck of the Year winner – adds to Ford’s taxi fleet options like the Crown Victoria (see: pretty much any taxi in any city in the U.S.) and the Ford Escape Hybrid. The new taxi van can also burn propane (LPG, or liquefied petroleum gas). Of course, regular Transit Connect buyers can also opt for Ford’s engine prep package to be able to put the gasoline alternatives into the tank. “I just sat down to peruse the Times and found this very interesting article describing some of the technologies being used in competitive sailing. To be sure, many of these have been around for years, but they’re being advanced every year and pushed to the limit by integration with onboard computers and all that. Hinged sails? 04. Font Aid IV: Coming Together, a Collaborative Typeface

“By the end of January Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) announced the launch of Font Aid IV, a project uniting the typographic and design communities in raising funds to expedite relief efforts in Haiti. Type designers, graphic designers and other artists from around the world were invited to contribute artwork to be included in a typeface created exclusively for the Font Aid IV effort. The theme of Font Aid IV is “Coming Together” which is represented though a font consisting entirely of ampersands.” (fontfeed)

I found this object to be great just days before Valentine’s Day. “Created by Eva Milinkovic of Tsunami Glassworks this gorgeous piece is a fusion of color and creativity. Germany’s DEFAKTO Watch was establish just under a year ago. Their mission is to offer a very simple timepiece that appeals to people with “time” on their side. “The DEFAKTO is a watch for people with time and who are therfore not meticulous dependent on knowing the exact time. Designed and built for outstanding personalities which have achieved there own life’s rhythm in the fast-moving time of today. We have made it our objective to redefine the feeling of time by the creation of a mechanic single hand watch. Within this form the single hand principal is unique.”  The DEFALTO is not for everyone, but for those willing, it makes for an interesting story.

These shots show the simple details which make these shades and eyeglasses some of our favorites of the year. The frames are made from thick acetate making them awfully durable. I’m a fan.

London’s SWEAR (aka S***R) delivers previews of their Autumn/Winter 2010 collection of footwear. “The men’s collection remains heavily influenced by music and youth culture, fuelled by the urge for “old is cool” but “luxury is king”, a juxtaposition that allows Swear to reinterpret the classics, whether it be the vintage brogue, brothel creeper, high-top sneaker or lace-up military boot…”

The “Ivy League” is the latest collection from French label Kitsuné for Autumn/Winter 2010. They’ve been awfuly busy of late – the Crystallized announcement cam in very recently as did news of their Tokyo “boutique.” The previews they have sent over pull inspiration from the expected source – university life. Cardigans, fitted trousers, and jackets keep the collection focused.
