APC Purple Army Parka

10 February 2010, 18.30 | Posted in Fashion | 2 comments »

selectism - apc-army-parka-01

APC’s collections have a tendency to pull a good piece out of the rabbit hat and they’ve done it again – this time it’s this purple parka. The sort of piece you never knew you wanted until you see it up close – a sniper piece, if you will – this is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the SS10 collection. Aside from having a great colour, shape (as slim as you’d expect from APC) it’s even got a club collar – officially ticking all the SL boxes. (Tres Bien)

Get a closer look after that leap.

Paul Smith Laptop Bag

selectism - paul-smith-laptop-bag-01

First things first, why aren’t there more fashion companies making laptop bags? The audience is there – every man worth his weight in vibram soled shoes has a laptop already – so more companies need to step up to the plate. Paul Smith makes a good looking one but there is one gripe (we had to have at least one). There’s no way of telling what size screen the bag will fit. C’mon brands, we don’t want to have to reach for measuring tape whenever we want to buy a bag. That aside, this is still a very handsome bag. (Paul Smith)

An Entirely Synthetic Fish

selectism - An Entirely Synthetic Fish

Did you know that some people in the 19th-century believed that rainbow trout could be the saviors of democracy?

Nor did I. Anders Halverson’s An Entirely Synthetic Fish: How Rainbow Trout Beguiled America and Overran the World An Entirely Synthetic Fish explores how the American government artificially stocked the Nations rivers with rainbow trout. The fish originates in Northern California, and for over 130 years has helped to sell the idea of “getting back to nature.”

Given fashion’s recent interest in the outdoors, making note of Halverson’s study makes natural sense. At the very least, the book will provide some fascinating conversation points to go with your rugged ensemble.

From Yale University Press.

Church’s Navy Suede Sahara Desert Boot

Selectism - churchs-navy-suede-desert-boot

We don’t know what it is, but we clearly can’t enough of navy suede boots. We thought we were done after the Tricker’s pair, we really did. But, as fate would have it, we saw these leather soled Church’s Sahara deserts and just had to put them up. It’s got that goodyear welted goodness (another phrase on the brink of becoming a blog buzzword) and is as handsome as you’d expect from a Church’s shoe. Like always, beware the leather sole in the rain. No matter how dapper you are, falling over is never stylish. (Herring Shoes)

Selectism - Via Snella Autumn/Winter 2010 Campaign

Some looks at the Autumn/Winter 2010 campaign from Via Snella over on CqC. “In winter season the mood may be gray and the clouds thick, but Via Snella AW 10 menswear collection proposes us exactly what we’re craving. Muted color tones and ultra-layered soft cotton fabrics with an underwear-like feeling, oversized pockets, zippers and graphic patterns such as squares and dots, blend the plethoric and dreamful spirit of a circus tale with the ethereal elegance of a choreography rehearsal. Regardless of whether you feel like the magician of the traveling troupe or like Merce Cunningham’s best disciple, it is all about a creative and permissive reinvention of the boyish dress up code…”
