Meg Company: Monitaly Spring/Summer 2010

selectism - Meg Company: Monitaly Spring/Summer 2010

Meg Company was founded in 1989 in Hermosa Beach, CA. Some of the brands lines are well known (particularly the Yuketan Shoe line), while others are less heralded (to this point).

Garbstore has received some spring/summer items from Monitaly, Meg Company’s rugged outdoor division. The pieces are in keeping with trend (heritage, Americana, etc, etc), but exhibited a more varied base of inspiration. The line started life in 1997, its name tying in a few things the designer really likes.

Above, you’ll see the Camp Shirt. Drawing from the traditional boy scouts shirt, this top was made using a triple needle union special machine… and has details fitted for carrying all sorts of boy scout stuff (scarf, compass, trail mix). Pictured after the jump, the Indigo Denim Raw shirt will age with love and washing. It too is made with a triple needle union special machine.

I’ve also pictured a gray t-shirt because, well, a good gray t-shirt is the fucking business.

Tricker’s Oceano Navy Suede Chukka Boot

selectism - trickers-oceana-suede-chukka-boot-01

Tis’ the season to buy navy suede boots – or so the old saying goes. We’d almost had enough of blue suede shoes because, let’s face it, how many of them do you need? But these chukkas are just too pretty for us to deny. If we had to make one criticism – and we do – it’d be that the vibram sole is a a little too thick for our tastes. But that’s just us being fussy. (The Bureau)

Compass NY | Florsheim by Duckie Brown Autumn 2010

Selectism - Compass NY | Florsheim by Duckie Brown Autumn 2010

The Duckie Brown and Florsheim relationship remains strong for Autumn 2010. We have a few looks from the forthcoming collection as seen at Compass NY last week. A favorite is the green brogue boot (shown above). Slight imperfections in the boot give it a not so new look which may be desired by some. Check the blue suede lace up as well in the gallery.  (photography: Jacob Krupnick)

Selectism - Compass NYC | Billy Reid Shoes

A few more looks from last week’s Compass NY shoe show at the Puck Building. Billy Reid showed off some upcoming styles for the Autumn and Winter 2010 seasons. Their take on the saddle shoe (shown above) is a rugged beast for the cold seasons that keeps moisture and urban grime away. (photography: Jacob Krupnick)

Rogue’s Gallery Black Leather Tote Bag

Selectism - Rogue's Gallery Black Leather Tote Bag

Two Christmas’ past, I purchased the red leather version of the Rogue’s Gallery tote bag. With every passing year, the leather just gets better as does single white rope handle which surrounds it. At this point, nothing beats it, except maybe this black version which matching black rope handle. Do I need a second one? It would seem so. Made in Portland, ME.

Selectism - Sperry Top-sider Autumn/Winter 2010 Shoes

Highsnobiety gives their viewpoint on the latest looks from the Autumn/Winter 2010 shoe collection from Sperry Top-sider. “While the brand has gained popularity in recent years mainly on the back of good collaborations and an overall trend towards deck shoes, they are finally also introducing some interesting new materials and looks in their own in-house collection. For Fall/Winter 2010 they use fur, felt, denim, aged leather and other premium materials on their classics.” (cs)

Selectism - Pixies “S/T (The Purple Tape) LP

01. Pixies “S/T (The Purple Tape) LP (above)

“The nine songs from the Pixies’ first demo, “The Purple Tape”, that weren’t chosen for “Come On Pilgrim” have now been pressed to vinyl. This includes original raw recordings of famous tunes like “Here Comes Your Man” and “Down The Well”, among others. It’s a 180 gram LP in an edition of 1500 (500 purple, 500 orange, 500 green). ” (omgvinyl)

02. Tim Goldsworthy Splits With DFA

“Together with partner James Murphy, Tim Goldsworthy founded the New York-based production team and record label DFA. As the DFA, the two produced important records by folks like the Rapture and the Juan Maclean and remixes for Le Tigre, Nine Inch Nails, Gorillaz, and more. The DFA played a huge role in the dance-punk wave that helped to define indie rock’s sound in the first half of the last decade. But as Resident Advisor reports, Goldsworthy has left New York for the UK and is no longer working with DFA.” (p4k)

03. The Design Revolution Hits the Road

“Last night, in San Francisco, Emily Pilloton and her merry band of humanitarian-design crusaders hosted the official send-off for their Design Revolution Road Show, which will be touring the country in a vintage Airstream trailer between now and April. I am very sorry I wasn’t able to attend–the invite to the “parking lot party” touted a tantalizing trifecta of mobile food vendors: one taco truck, one pizza truck, and one cupcake truck. Fortunately, even if you can’t make it to any of the tour stops, Pilloton and company are posting copious photos and videos on their blog. In fact, the Road Show has already made three pre-kickoff stops, including one at Pilloton’s alma mater, Redwood High School.” (metropolispov)

04. PREFAB FRIDAY: Prototype for the House Arc Modular Home Unveiled

“We love prefab designs, but we love seeing them come to life even more! Last July, we brought you renderings for the House Arc, a bicycle rack-inspired modular home designed by Joseph Bellomo, and now we’re thrilled to give you a peek of the prototype version which was just unveiled. Prefabricated and flat-packed into a 4-by-10-by-3 foot box, the House Arc can easily be shipped and assembled at its final destination.” (inhabitant)
