J.S Homestead Shawl Collar Cardigan

02 February 2010, 16.30 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

selectism - js-homestead-shawl-collar-cardigan

So this is another shawl collar cardigan. What can we say? it’s an illness. And we’ve hit two birds with one stone, combining our semi-obsession with shawl collars with our full on obsession with anything from Japan. And, to top it all off, the cardigans use flecked wool (aka menswear blogger obsession number 38282721). Like all pieces from Japan, you’ll need to get your proxy on. (Style Cruise)

Song remains the same, detailed images after that leap.

Vivian Cherry’s New York

selectism - Vivian Cherry's New York

Forthcoming from powerHouse, Vivian Cherry’s New York Vivian Cherrys New York is the second collection of photographs from the Big Apple Native.

Originally a dancer, Cherry has been photographing New York for over 50 years. Her first powerHouse book was published in 2007 (Helluva Town: New York City in the 1940s and 50s Vivian Cherrys New York ). The new volume draws from pictures taken over the last decade. Cherry is one of the last surviving members of the Photo League, a group that embraced social realism, and her work continues to follow the tendencies born through that collective.

Consider her work street style before the blog era. Or, more appropriately consider it a growing document of the vibrant cultural life of New York City.

Available for pre-order from Amazon Vivian Cherrys New York .

Universal Works Waxed Fell Jacket

selectism - universal-works-waxed-fell-jacket-01

Universal Works’ SS10 collection landed at Daniel Jenkins’ store last weekend and we felt it was only right that we highlight one of our favourite pieces from a stacked collection. If menswear was set into two camps (which it is) this would defintely be on the ’style’ side of the equation. Like most ’style’ pieces, it’s best suited for those who like to appreciate the finer details (or least like to pretend that they do). [Daniel Jenkins]

Detailed images are (where else?) after the leap.

Barbasol Re-styling

01. The Posters Came From the Walls (Depeche Mode Fan Docu)

“In Russia, May 9 is Victory Day, a national holiday. It’s also the birthday of Dave Gahan, lead singer with Depeche Mode, and a group of Muscovite fans have declared it Dave Day, gathering together to celebrate the group with homemade banners, mass sing-alongs and club nights. In Russia and countries of the former Soviet Union, the band’s music has been treasured since it was only available on illegal bootlegged cassettes in the 1980s, and it formed the soundtrack of the march toward freedom those countries embarked upon following the fall of the Berlin Wall.” (blancodisco)

02. The 2009 Annual Feltron Report

“Last week Nicholas Felton, master of all things diagrammed, released his newest Feltron Annual Report for 2009 which outlines all of the activities he participated in last year. This year though he decided to change things up a bit and asked people he met to log their encounters through an online survey he set up.” (+kn)

03. World’s Smallest Portable Printer Doesn’t Use Ink

“Computing on-the-go couldn’t be easier with the bevvy of smart phones, laptops and netbooks on the market. But printing documents while away from the home or office is a whole ‘nother story — until now. PlanOn’s Printstik PS905ME printer provides completely portable printing power. The lightweight, mobile printer utilizes rechargeable batteries and thermal printing technology so folks can print documents without needing outlets or wasteful ink cartridges.” (inhabitanat)

04. Barbasol Re-styling (above)

“This project’s objective was to re-style the popular American “Barbasol” shaving cream in order to introduced it into the European market. For this, I maintained the basic form that they have used for years: the barber shop pole (stripes).” (packagingoftheworld)

Selectism - Saint Augustine Academy Autumn/Winter 2010

Saint Augustine Academy’s Autumn/Winter 2010 is entitled, “The Lamentations of Euchrid the Mute.” The theme of the line’s name is pulled from the Nick Cave novel, “And the Ass Saw the Angel.” “As a lyricist and actor, Cave’s novel is an innovative, wildly idiosyncratic, tall tale satirizing religious fanaticism. Euchrid Eucrow, a twin who is lone survivor in birth, grows up silent in the 1890’s in the sectarian town of Ukulore, a rural swamp peopled with the fanatical, the sinners, and the tricksters.”
