Selectism - Adam Kimmel Shoes for Spring/Summer 2010

Colette serves up two looks from the Adam Kimmel footwear collection for Spring/Summer 2010. Black suede and brown leather offerings provide two looks with distinct details on the toecap. “Adam Kimmel invites us in the American West in Utah where the famous photographer Jim Krantz take the photos of the Marlboro advertisements. Together they wake the cowboy myth, Adam Kimmel recreates a wardrobe deserving of the biggest westerns…”

B Store Short Sleeve Linen Shirt

selectism - b-store-linen-shirt-01

Like everyone else, we’ve had enough of winter now. We didn’t mind it a few weeks ago – heck, we even liked it at one point – but it’s time for spring to come back. We won’t complain about it being too hot, we promise. This B Store shirt would make a great intro to Spring – mainly because it’s the kind of shirt you can’t wear at any other time of the year. Now will someone tell Winter it’s not welcome round these parts? (B Store)

Take the leap and see them detailed shots.

Carolyn Massey Cable Knit Jumper

selectism - carolyn-massey-cable-knit-jumper

Thanks to the wonders of the internet (and the fact we write these posts a day in advance) we can say that one SL team member is wearing this jumper this very second. We’re always bleating on about this, but the lines between brands like Massey’s and the sort of brands stocked in a typical menswear store is slowly blurring. It’s a simple, wearable piece (and we don’t mean that in a negative way) and could slot easily into any man’s wardrobe – it slotted into ours easy enough.  (Daniel Jenkins)

Take that leap, see those pictures.

01. Huskies Showing Fight In Late Rounds (above)

“Maybe they had to feel the razor’s edge before they knew how close their season was to being bled dry. Maybe they had to feel that the next loss would be the loss that ruins their dreams before they could begin to turn those dreams into reality.”(Courant)

02. Swollen Wall by Paul Coudamy

“French designer Paul Coudamy has created a curvaceous book case lining the walls of Paris apartment. Called Swollen Wall, the design is divided into a grid with 20×20 cm squares.” (Dezeen)

03. 12 Classic Max Roach Tracks

“In an era when drummers consider it a default performance practice to navigate a global template of rhythmic expression, it is important to remember that Max Roach (1924-2007) is the single most important figure in this development.” (Jazz)

04. Austin, Texas

“Long a destination for good southern barbecue, chicken-fried steak, and Margaritas, Austin has evolved into a mecca for the eco-minded. Residents raft the Colorado River, hike through Texas Hill Country (alive every spring with blooming bluebonnets), and enjoy local music at open-air venues. And these days, both residents and out-of-towners flock to eateries that use local organic produce and all-natural Texas meats.” (Bon Appetit)

Video | Unrolling the On the Road Scroll

While this video offers no new thought about Jack Kerouac’s masterpiece, I really like the behind the scenes view offered by the Indianapolis Art Museum from their 2008 display of the manuscript. Laying out the pages is conservator Jim Canary, and his effort allows a rare look at the original document. Short and sweet, but nevertheless intriguing. After all, the book remains one of the Americana must reads.
