selectism - dunderdon-autumn-2010-bags-01

Here’s a quick gander at Dunderdon’s forthcoming AW10 bag collection. As you’d expect from the workwear company (who make workwear you can actually do outdoorsy stuff in) the bags are made from a rugged canvas and come in weekender (pictured), tote and washbag variations. There’s even a wallet for the folks who like all their accessories to coordinate.

Take a leap to see the rest of the accessories.

selectism - Selectism Q&A | Bill Hodge, New Era

One of the things that surprised us at PROJECT was New Era’s EK Collection. Named after company founder Erhardt Koch, the line is inspired by classic and vintage headwear. Certainly a departure from the baseball cap New Era is best known for, the 59fifty.

Wanting to dig a little deeper into EK, we caught up with designer Bill Hodge. We spoke about the intent of the line and its potential to remind of New Era’s rich history as a cap maker.

Read the interview and view a full selection of offerings from New Era’s EK Collection for Spring 2010 after the jump.

Han 50’s Sweat Chinos

While we’re often seen as the sharper brother to High Snob, we like to get comfy too. We mean, there’s only so much super tough denim a man can take before he just wants to break out the sweat pants. And my friends, this is one of those days. Sweatpants have are still very much an emerging trend – mainly because men don’t really know how to wear them without looking like they’re going to the gym. Personally, we’d wear these with an oxford and some trainers or boat shoes as anything else can leave you looking a little too fashion victim for our tastes. (Norse)

Oki-Ni interviews Taichi Fujimatsu from Master-Piece

selectism - Oki-Ni interviews Taichi Fujimatsu from Master-Piece

Dan Mitchell of Oki-Ni interviews Taichi Fujimatsu from Master-Piece (translation by Jonny Nash).

Dan: As you  know, we are big fans of Master-Piece and are really happy to be stocking the brand.  It’s been a while since we last met – about a year if I remember correctly. I guess you have been pretty busy in the last 12 months?

Fujimatsu-san: Yes, I’ve been pretty busy – spending my time working on designing our new collection, and sourcing new fabrics.

Sure – one thing that really stands out about Master-Piece for me is the great colour palettes mixed with a real nice range of multi-fabrics and materials. Are all your fabrics sourced from Japan?

Yes, all fabrics and materials are sourced from Japan. We take our inspiration from everything around us, across all media and genres… our products are pretty much born from this.

Kitsune Mac Coat

Here’s a coat for the folks who don’t mind standing out in the crowd. The beige trench is, was, and always will be a classic, but you should have one of those by now. Why not switch it up with a coat a couple shades lighter than the usual? As far as styling goes, we think it’ll look good with a denim shirt and some beige or olive chinos. You can thank us once you start getting compliments on the streets. (Studio Homme)

R6 Autumn/Winter 2010

Selectism - R6-6876-autumn-2010-09

Given the ridiculous speed the internet moves at, we’re already late on this one. But we like this collection so much that we thought we’d put it up anyway. We were fans of R6, Regent belts ongoing collaboration with 6876, when the SS10 collection dropped some months ago (look for that to release into 6876’s own store and Daniel Jenkins between now and april)

Like the first collection, the main focus is on the bags. There’s a smattering of wallets and belts – all shot beautifully by Donald Milne – but bags are undoubtedly the crux of the collection. There’s even a messenger bag in there (presumably for the couple of guys who haven’t leapt onto the backpack bandwagon yet). It’s everything you’d want in a collection; local manufacture, quality craftsmanship, handsome products – the whole shebang.

Take a leap to see the rest of the collection.

Selectism - Impossible Project PX 100 Film for Polaroid SX-70 Film

01. MGMT Streams new Album for Free

“Hey everybody, the album leaked, and we wanted you to be able to hear it from us. We wanted to offer it as a free download but that didn’t make sense to anyone but us…” (whoismgmt)

02. Vital Oil: Photographer Ed Kashi Captures Nigeria’s Toxic Legacy

“Curse of the Black Gold sounds like the title of an old-fashioned adventure novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs or Henry Rider Haggard. It is, in fact, an epic work of reportage by the photojournalist Ed Kashi that documents in photographs, essays and interviews (and even poems) the cost of 50 years of oil production in west Africa.” (guardian)

03. Impossible Project PX 100 Film for Polaroid SX-70 Film (above)

“Impossible’s new PX Instant films are dedicated to all the people who feel a similar passion for the magic of analog Instant Photography as we do. Carefully manufactured to slowly develop in the palms of their hands. The development of PX SilverShade monochrome Instant Films is based on sensitive chemical reactions” (impossibleproject)

04. Melrose Commons Earns First LEED Neighborhood Honors in NYC

“In 1994 an Urban Renewal Plan threatened to price out the residents of Melrose Commons in the South Bronx. In an effort to keep their neighborhood, the residents formed a community group aptly named Nos Quedamos — which in Spanish means, “We Stay.” The group, through persistence, successfully coerced the city into including housing that was within their price range and then made sure that the city built their new neighborhood as efficiently as possible. Melrose Commons is now the first neighborhood in New York State to receive LEED Stage II Silver Certification for Neighborhood Development by the U.S. Green Building Council.” (inhabitant)

Selectism - Studio D'Artisan Jeans Brown Duck Canvas Jean

I’m not going to deny my love of the duck canvas pants/jeans (whatever you want to call them). They’re rugged as shit and, like good denim, they’re break in and work for you. Beat the crap out of them and enjoy the easy life driving your Scout and drinking beer. “Heavy weight #6 thread woven duck canvas jean from Studio D’Artisan. Straight fit, zipper fly, Ecru cotton twill pocket bags, with extra thick treated leather patch. Raw and unwashed 100% Cotton. Made in Japan” Blue & Green has them.
